Chapter 567 - The Marshals vs. the Furies

The sky above Earth had become a canvas of chaos.

Paradragons tore through the air, their maws raining fire upon the cities below. Each one was a fusion of flesh and machine, a nightmare born from the stolen corpse of a dragon and the twisted genius of Desaad.

The Furies too were queens of destruction,

Until Arthur Blackwynd showed up, and he moved through the sky like a blade of shadow, his form a blur of violet light.

He simply passed through the Paradragons, and they died.

One moment they were there, their bodies massive and menacing, their eyes burning with hunger. The next, they were gone, their bodies dissolving into nothing, their essence absorbed into the void. Arthur moved from one to another with the casual grace of a reaper harvesting souls, his presence a wave of absolute death, his path a trail of destruction that stretched across the sky.

Didi's voice whispered in his mind, soft and amused. "Why do you still prefer physical confrontation when you can kill lesser beings like this without lifting a finger?" She paused. "You could simply will them out of existence, Arthur. It would be so much easier. Less effort. Less strain."

Arthur smiled. "This way I won't go rusty, I'm used to fighting, I will not stop now." He paused, his eyes gleaming with cold fire as he carved through another Paradragon. "I could rely on my shadows, and while they are more than dependable, I prefer to take the big fights myself.. There is something satisfying about the physical act of battle. The rhythm of combat. The dance of blades. The moment when you feel your enemy's life slip away beneath your hands."

Didi's voice carried a note of playful teasing. "So you are a battle junky. My, no wonder you are all bruised up. You seek out conflict because you crave the challenge, the thrill, the rush of adrenaline that comes from facing impossible odds and emerging victorious... though these are hardly a challenge."

Arthur was amused, his eyes still fixed on the enemies before him. "Bruised you say? Just what are you looking at?"

Didi's voice carried a note of innocent mischief. "Nothing in particular... Now focus on your enemies."

Arthur's spear materialized in his hand, its edge crackling with violet lightning, its surface gleaming with the light of absolute death. He swung, and the arc of lightning carved through the sky, illuminating the battlefield in a flash of violet light that seemed to stretch across the entire city. The Paradragons fell, their bodies dissolving into nothing leaving nothing behind. The arc continued, carving through a dozen more creatures, their bodies disintegrating before they could even scream.

On the ground, the people watched.

They had no idea what was happening. They only saw the sky lighting up, the Paradragons disappearing, the rain of blood descending upon them. They only saw the shadow that moved through the chaos, a figure of absolute power, a being of death incarnate.

"Is that... is that Arthur Blackwynd?" one of them whispered.

"I know he is strong but.." another said, his eyes wide with awe. "Every hunter in the world is struggling against these things..."

"He is just passing through and they are disappearing.." a third said, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I don't know anymore who is more terrifying.."

Arthur moved through the sky, his path a trail of destruction, his presence a beacon of hope in the chaos. His spear carved through another Paradragon, its form dissolving into shadow. He spun, his blade catching another, its body splitting in two. He moved with the grace of a dancer.

Apokolips - The Throne Room of Darkseid

The Furies felt it and contacted Apokolips.

Across the world, across the battlefield, they felt the presence of something ancient and terrible. Something that had not been there before. Something that made their blood run cold and their hearts pound with fear.

Lashina's voice carried over. "What is this? I cannot... I cannot sense him. He is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. His presence is... overwhelming.. This is not what we anticipated.."

Stompa spoke next. "His power... it is not what we were told. It is greater. Far greater. I have faced gods before... This is just.."

"We need reinforcements.. Grany Goodness if possible, or all the new gods, we need more power!" Bernadeth requested.

They reached out to Apokolips, in desperation. "This is Bernadeth. We require reinforcements. The Shadow Monarch is here. His power is beyond what we anticipated. We cannot.."

Desaad's voice emerged, calm and cold. "It is not possible to send reinforcements. Lay waste as much as you can. Weaken the fool, for the glory of Lord Darkseid."

The Furies went silent, their eyes burning with cold fury. They had been abandoned, left to die in a war they could not win.

Lashina said in acceptance. "We have no choice. We must go all out.. We must fight with everything we have, we should take out the band of heroes they have here at least, alongside the Kryptonian."

The Sky of Earth -

Superman clashed with one of the Furies, his fist connecting with her armor, the impact sending shockwaves across the sky. Her blade carved through the air, he dodged, his body a blur thanks to his super speed, his heat vision carving through her defenses.

But she was strong. Stronger than he had anticipated.

Then he saw it.

A shadow appeared before her.

Bellion materialized from the darkness, his form gleaming with violet light, his greatsword was in his hand.

"You are not worth my Monarch's time, so you shall die at my hands instead."

The Fury's eyes widened.

Bellion attacked.

His greatsword carved through the air, the Fury raised her blade to block, but the impact sent her hurtling through the sky, her body crashing into a building below. Bellion descended after her, his sword already raised for another strike.

In Another Battlefield

H'El appeared before another Fury, his fists connecting with her armor. The impact sent her hurtling through the sky, her body crashing into a building below.

His voice was amused. "You are beneath him. You are beneath all of us. You are nothing but a tool, a weapon forged by a master who does not care if you live or die."

The Fury rose. "I will not be spoken to like this by a lowly shadow!"

H'El moved.

His fist connected with her jaw, the impact sending shockwaves across the street. "You will be spoken to however I choose."

Galatea appeared before another Fury, her eyes burning with heat vision.

"Surrender, and you will be allowed to live. You will be given a chance to serve a master who values you, who sees your worth, who will not throw you away like a broken toy."

The Fury ignored her and attacked.

Galatea moved.

Her fist connected with the Fury's chest, the impact sending her hurtling through the sky. "I will take that as a no."

Beru appeared before the last and the fifth Fury, his claws carving through her armor.

"The Monarch sends his regards."

The Fury's eyes widened. "You little insect..."

Beru's claws carved through her weapon, its edge shattering against his body. "He says you are not worth his time."

In Metropolis

Elena, the human commander of the Shadow Lanterns moved through the sky, her Shadow Lantern ring blazing with violet light. She was young, barely twenty, but she had been trained by the best in Nyx, and rose through the ranks, Her constructs carved through the Paradragons.

She was doing a tremendous job. Her forces were spread across the globe, defending the cities, protecting the innocent.

Then she saw him.

Arthur moved through the sky, in a blur of violet light, his path a trail of destruction. He passed by her in an instant, his presence a wave of power that made her breath catch, she felt his eyes looking towards her, and even a smile.

"The Supreme Commander..." She said, her eyes wide with awe. "I have never seen him like this. He is..."

She shook her head, her voice hardening with determination.

"We must continue the fight. For Earth. For everything we have built."

Across the world, the people watched.

They saw the shadows descending upon the Paradragons, bringing death and annihilation to the invaders. They saw the Shadow Lanterns fighting alongside them, their rings blazing with power. They saw the Marshals of the Shadow Monarch.

"We are saved," a child whispered.

And the people cheered.
