For a moment, Cassandra simply stared at her grandfather in disbelief. "I didn't say that!" She pouted. "Grandpa... You're not being fair."
Her embarrassed protest sent Henry into another round of laughter. Alexander wore a smile, while Ella looked like she will combust from holding in her laugh.
"How so?" Barrett asked calmly. He looked at Cassandra with an expression of genuine confusion. "I merely asked a question."
"Exactly," Henry chimed in before Cassandra could respond. He pointed his fork toward Carlton with mock seriousness. "If Carl really is your enemy, just say the word." He narrowed his eyes at Carlton with exaggerated seriousness. "We'll get rid of him immediately. How dare he offend our family's precious treasure?"
Although his face was stern, the laughter dancing in his eyes betrayed him completely. Carlton looked up from his plate, and shook his head at Henry's expression.
