The sharp scent of antiseptic stung Daxter's senses as he sat frozen between the two rooms that divided his world.
To his left, beyond the glass walls of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Viona lay weakly on the hospital bed with various tubes and monitor wires attached to her small body. A thick white bandage was wrapped around her head.
To his right, inside a regular treatment room, Veronica still remained unconscious after fainting from severe shock.
The ICU doors slid open.
The head doctor handling Viona's case stepped out while removing his surgical mask. The middle-aged man looked exhausted, yet there was a trace of relief visible on his face.
Daxter immediately rose to his feet and approached the doctor with a tense jaw, struggling to contain his anxiety.
"How is my daughter, Doctor?"
The doctor gave a faint smile and patted Daxter's broad shoulder reassuringly.
