Chapter 1 - the actual madness

( author note: the back story starts at chapter 0 I would highly recommend a read to batter understand the next chapters )

{ volume 1 the collective and the fallen }

"well... either am insane or this place is more depresing then i thought."

those were the thoughts of Alexandrove as he stared at the bored of jobs, most of them requiered for him to have his own tools, for example...

scribe(requierd item: typewriter or writing stasion.)

locksmith( requierd item: lockpicks )

so on and so forth he only had one options and it wasn't really appealing, that was...

scavenger( requierd item: none ) discrepsion: vencher outside the walls to reclaim the dogtags of the fallen soldiers/workers so there familise have something to bury.

pay: 1 silver plates per tag of a soldier and 1 copper plates for every worker

"well i dont have any other choice "

he went to the desk next to the bored and wrote his name on the scarily empty page which didn't really give him much confidence.

"you are to apear at the north gate on the theered bell "

said the scribe at the desk; he was a man in his late thirty's with round thick glasses and and wrinkled but clean militia uniform. he looked at Alexandrove with pity in his eyes.

alexandrove noded as he continued to walk through the city, he got closer and closer to the central tower and noticed something.

" that's not a tower...THAT'S A GENERATOR "

it finally dond on him the people had something akin to electricity but it wasn't electricity? the closest thing he could think to explain what it was was.

"magic" well he was half right and half wrong but at the moment he needs more information to understand what he was looking at.

the city itself was mostly drab gray with the very rare color here and there, the buildings were made of concrete and iron with the occasional stone. most people were busy walking, talking, haggled or working, as soldiers patrolled the streets and rarely broke up the odd fight between workers or caught thieves. life was rough as it seemed that no one was lazying around except the disabled or the children, the ones that didn't work anyhow.

after for walking for what felt like hours, thanks to the help of some locals he located what he was searching for. there was a library near the generator belching tower and there was no need for payment so he could find all the information he needed for the time being.

then something else donned on him the people spoke the same language as him Russian but there writing looked like ...medieval Russian?

well good thing that his major in college was mechanical engineering with a minor in Russian literature. he really hatted literature but he couldn't deny it came in handy to understand most of the writing there, were still parts he couldn't quite understand yet like engineering/mathematics and biology ect.

but he was able to read some history.

so apparently this planet was called Gaia..."ironic" geography of Gaia was simpler then he expected it was split into two continents those were the continents of ilaia and salmirove.

the former was the smallest while the latter was the largest were he was currently located on, apparently humanity in this world wasn't much better then the humanity of earth.

the big difference was that on Gaia nuclear war was done and dealt with but that doesn't mean there were no consequences, apart from radiation there were large creature clusters that had been hibernating inside the planets mantel that had been awakened by the nuclear impacts. they were able to surface do to the condition change in the atmosphere that has blocked out the sun for most of the world, said creatures dubbed the eruptides had driven humanity to near extinction bringing the population down from 5 billion to barely 27 million.

forcing then to hide in a sophisticated network of 12 city's of which only 11 remained standing, and only 9 remained fully operational. the city he currently lived in was the most populated with approximately 7 million humans in its walls as well as the most heavily armed of them all named lanthan, the black mine was the networks largest supply of construction materials & metals that kept humanity alive. combined with Zanmars large natural Sylion deposits, the wonder material that started the three power wars that caused the destruction of the planets ecology while some argued that it evolved it. humanity kept living on regardless. the ones defending the aforementioned city was a mulish a of soldiers and private scavengers named stal-

before he could continue reading there was a loud bell that struck one's...twice...THREE times...

"SHIT AM GOING TO BE LATE"

he rushed out the door's of the library running to what he hoped was the correct direction he got there but his body almost gave out on him, his thin frame coupled with the malnutrition and the cold didn't help his body in the least but he made it in time.

mulish a guard POV.

captain lostov looked at the even smaller group of scavengers that were tasked with body recovery, he hoped to finally stop sending his men to die in the wasteland for the so called land recovery operation his superiors decided to implement.

but politics always had a hand in these matters and he didn't have much choice in the decision to begin with.

suddenly he saw a man running towards the gate, he was lanky thin and looked almost hollow.

lostov figured it was just some drunk idiot that got lost and came here from the red light district, but when the man stopped in front of him the words that came out of his mouth shocked him.

"Huh...Alexandreve Bellkenien here for the scavenging job."

now this was unexpected he looked very young around early 20s so he must have no money and thoought that this would be a way to make a quick buck.

I give him 2 minutes...max
