Chapter 689: Pacifying the Chaotic Demon Sea, Splitting the Forces
"Senior Qing Zhi, leave this big fellow to me."
Lin Langtian looked at the distant giant demon, his expression calm.
He seemed for all the world like a grandmaster, as light as clouds and as gentle as wind.
Qing Zhi hesitated briefly, then nodded.
He could sense that after a year of seclusion, Lin Langtian's strength had risen to a level completely beyond his ken.
"Be careful. That thing has fused over a dozen true kings; its strength rivals someone who has endured three Reincarnation Tribulations."
With that, Qing Zhi descended, quickly taken into the protection of the alliance experts.
"Fused Yimo, hm?" Lin Langtian said mildly.
Roar!
The demon withdrew its claw, its blood-red, murderous eyes fixing on Lin Langtian as it bellowed in rage.
Black blood sprayed from its enormous body like a fountain.
The liquid writhed as it flew, emanating a palpable, suffocating evil.
"Die! Blood Demon Realm!"
The demon's rasping roar tore at the air as the black blood burst outward like a waterfall.
It surged together into a massive sphere of blood that snapped shut around Lin Langtian.
A heartbeat later, the sphere shrank.
Whoosh!
In an instant, it was no more than a few meters across, completely enveloping him.
The demon's claws clamped down, ready to crush the sphere—and Lin Langtian with it.
Ssshh!
Just as those massive fingers were about to close, a slender hand punched cleanly through the blood sphere from within.
It tore the construct apart like cheap paper, ripping it into two halves.
Lin Langtian smiled, flipped his palm, and drew the shattered blood back into his hand.
It spun rapidly, condensing into a black bead the size of a fist.
"Go."
He flicked his finger.
A trace of chaotic light rippled across the bead's surface.
Empowered by Taishang Power, it streaked away in a line of black light and slammed into the demon's chest.
Sizzle.
The tiny bead was utterly insignificant compared to the demon's bulk. Yet the moment it pierced his hide, that armor-like flesh—tough enough to rival a three-Tribulation body—gave way, and the bead bored straight inside.
"Fool. You would use our own demonic qi to kill us?!"
The demon's mocking laugh scraped at the sky.
To it, the bead was less a threat than food, its presence only making the demonic qi within swell wilder and stronger.
Lin Langtian just chuckled, a faint curve at his lips.
"Is that so?"
Bang!
His hand clenched.
The demon's laughter cut off mid-note.
Its entire body began to convulse violently.
Within its flesh, streaks of chaotic light tore outward from every direction.
Under that terrifying glow, the endless demonic qi in its body began to evaporate like snow under a summer sun.
In moments, its enormous form split apart, blowing back into a dozen dark figures trailing black blood.
The fused monstrosity, equal to a three-Tribulation peak, had been undone in a single blow as Lin Langtian forcibly separated the true kings fused within.
Each of those kings was ghastly pale and barely breathing. Horror flooded their eyes as they stared at him.
Before they could react, Lin Langtian moved again, face impassive.
Boom!
A towering black pagoda swept across the sky, thousands of meters tall, like a mountain hanging upside down. A suffocatingly domineering aura poured from it.
Whoosh!
The Town-Demon Pagoda hurtled downward. As it passed over the true kings, their bodies burst apart one by one in showers of gore and screams.
A powerful suction roared out, dragging their demonic qi into the pagoda's depths.
On its inner walls, eight demonic statues opened their maws, greedily devouring the fresh, terrifying Yimo power.
Seeing Lin Langtian mowing them down like this, the rest of the true kings turned and fled in panic.
With a wave of his sleeve, the pagoda surged after them. A vortex of darkness yawned open beneath it, like the throat of some titanic beast.
In a single, sweeping gulp, it swallowed all of the fleeing true kings whole.
In barely more than ten breaths, over a dozen true Yimo kings had been wiped out without a trace.
The armies below could only stare, slack-jawed.
After finishing with the kings, Lin Langtian's cold black eyes turned downward toward the battlefield.
It was his first time facing such a vast theater of war, stretching across the entire Northern Sea Region.
Everywhere his gaze fell, demonic qi and Yuan Power collided in a frantic blur.
Just the number of Yimo alone had to be in the millions. The alliance forces were no fewer.
None of them were ordinary soldiers. Every single one possessed real cultivation.
He could not help licking his lips.
Just by devouring those true kings, he had felt the eight demon statues within the pagoda undergo a clear transformation. Each was now comparable to a one-Tribulation expert.
The "Eight Heavenly Demons" were no longer as critical to him as they once had been, but he knew what they could become: the foundation of thirty-six ultimate divine abilities. Abandoning them was unthinkable.
If he could devour this entire Yimo host, the Eight Heavenly Demons would surely advance even further.
Decision made, Lin Langtian's will stirred, and storm clouds of black lightning gathered overhead.
Boom.
Boom.
Boom.
…
Thunder rolled so loudly it drowned out the battle cries.
"This battlefield was never meant for the likes of you," he said quietly.
Demon lightning churned as he stepped into the air. His gaze swept across the countless Yimo, ice settling in his eyes.
"As punishment, you'll all become fodder for the Eight Heavenly Demons."
The heavens shook.
The thunderheads swelled, and a rain of demonic lightning poured down like a storm.
Wherever it fell, Yimo were erased before they could even scream.
The Town-Demon Pagoda's suction flared to its limit, swallowing up the demonic qi flooding through the sky.
Assaulted by the howling storm, the Yimo army's once-fierce momentum faltered.
Terror finally crept into their eyes.
With their leaders gone, their earlier ferocity evaporated.
"Kill!"
Tang Xinlian's eyes flashed coldly as she seized on the moment. At her shout, the alliance army's killing intent erupted like a volcano.
Waves of Yuan Power smashed into the demoralized Yimo, scattering their ranks.
Lightning roared across the sky like endless artillery, shattering their formations again and again. Meanwhile, the Town-Demon Pagoda rampaged like a starving beast, devouring the lives of Yimo experts by the thousands.
In mere moments, tens of thousands were dragged into its depths.
Even veteran Yimo had gone pale with fear.
Roar!
Realizing the battle was lost, the Yimo leaders let out a succession of desperate howls.
The horde turned as one and fled for the sea, clearly hoping to dive into the deep and escape.
Tough and unkillable, the Yimo were a menace if they slipped away.
Tang Xinlian, however, had been waiting for exactly this.
A razor-edged smile touched her lips.
"Sea Monster Corps, hear my order—do not let a single Yimo escape!"
Boom!
The ocean heaved as titanic waves split apart like curtains.
From the depths surged an army of sea monsters riding every conceivable beast, charging up from the seafloor.
From above, one could see a massive formation spread beneath the waves, sealing off the Yimo's retreat.
Lin Langtian watched as the enemy found themselves cut off from all sides, front and back, above and below.
He could not help but smile.
He let the Town-Demon Pagoda continue reaping lives and turned to face Tang Xinlian, giving her a thumbs-up.
The Fire Fairy was as formidable as ever. Every escape route was locked down. The Yimo had nowhere left to run.
Within the sea of troops, she saw the gesture and her red lips curled in proud satisfaction.
Her phoenix eyes met his without flinching, warmth and allure simmering in their depths. Lin Langtian had to rub his nose to hide his discomfort before she finally laughed, bright as flame.
He exhaled slowly.
Once they mopped up the remnants, the Chaotic Demon Sea's war would be over.
If the Monster Domain and the Western Xuan Region could also be calmed, it would be time to face the Demonic Prison in a final battle.
When that happened, the Yimo Emperor would almost certainly break free, just as he had in the original timeline.
At the thought, his face tightened.
As patriarch of the Yimo, the Emperor might be unimpressive in the Great Thousand World, but on the Tianxuan Continent he was more than capable of destroying an entire lower plane.
Lin Langtian would have liked to stop him from breaking the seal, but he knew how impossible that was.
Even the Symbol Ancestor and the Ancient Masters had not managed it. For all that his power now rivaled a three-Tribulation expert, he could not stem that tide.
What he could do was drive his strength to the Ancestor realm, so that when the Yimo Emperor emerged, he would be ready to turn the tide.
Lin Dong might be the Symbol Ancestor's ace, but Lin Langtian wanted his own fate in his own hands.
…
After the battle in the Northern Sea Region, the Chaotic Demon Sea campaign ended in victory for the alliance.
Lin Langtian's presence was crucial, but another factor was the Demonic Prison's isolation. Without reinforcements, their army had little hope of winning against a united Chaotic Demon Sea.
Even so, it took four more full days for the alliance to completely purge the scattered Yimo.
When the dust finally settled, the reclaimed sea regions were a vision of hell.
Evil qi tainted the waters. Corpses floated in drifts as far as the eye could see, and a stench of decay fouled the air.
The alliance's soldiers burned with fury at the sight. Many of them would have gladly charged off to slaughter more Yimo if any remained.
Those creatures were not of their world.
The powers and races of the Tianxuan Continent might clash and even wage war, but they did so for profit, not for the joy of extermination.
The Yimo were nothing but cruelty.
If they were not rooted out, the continent would never know peace.
But there was no time now to cleanse the seas.
As soon as the Northern Sea Region battle ended, the alliance forces split in two under Tang Xinlian's orders.
Half marched to support the Four Xuan Regions Alliance; the other half headed for the Monster Alliance.
Only by swiftly clearing all three theaters of the Yimo could they free their hands for the final showdown with the Demonic Prison.
After some thought, Lin Langtian took command of the force bound for the Four Xuan Regions.
That front lay closer to the Western Xuan Region. Even though the Ancient Masters watched the Demonic Prison constantly, he wanted to get there as quickly as possible.
The Monster Domain, with Little Marten, Jinwu, and Tang Xinlian leading the other half of the Chaotic Demon Sea army, would be in good hands.
Tang Xinlian agreed completely.
Once the situation in the Chaotic Demon Sea was fully under control, they each set off with their armies in different directions…
