"What a bunch of scum."
Allen led Nami and Nojiko all the way to the edge of Gaya Island. Though he'd forgotten the man's name, he still recalled the chestnut-shaped head and the half-ruined house by the sea.
Along this short distance, Allen couldn't even count how many pirates he'd silently dispatched—filthy men eyeing the two women with ill intent.
This place truly was a pirate haven and a paradise for scum.
If not for the few normal people and innocent animals on Gaya Island, he'd have sunk this broken island and town without a second thought.
"Hey! You there in front! Was it you who killed my men at the dock?"
The trio had just left the town and entered the woods when a roar erupted behind them.
Dozens of pirates charged after them, brandishing knives and guns.
"No matter where you're from or what Devil Fruit you've got, if you dare kill my men… uh…"
Before he could finish, the group dropped like harvested wheat. It had to be said—Conqueror's Haki was a godsend for clearing out riffraff. With it, mowing down small fry was effortlessly satisfying.
"Captain, should we go for it? That's a 5.5 billion head—prime hunting time!"
From atop a house on the edge of Mock Town, four figures sprawled across the eaves, observing the scene.
The one on the edge was absurdly proportioned, wearing an odd headgear, pounding his fists with a glint of madness in his eyes.
"Captain, I've got him in my sights."
"Shut up, Burgess! And Van Augur, put your gun away—this guy's out of our league!"
The man in the middle—curly-haired, bare-chested, missing a few teeth—wore a grave expression.
Blackbeard, Marshall D. Teach.
Though widely seen as arrogant, especially since acquiring the Dark-Dark Fruit, his ambitions had swelled to the point of considering a challenge against Allen, a man with a 5.5 billion Berry bounty from Navy Headquarters.
But the Conqueror's Haki Allen had just unleashed made Teach's eyes widen.
The strength and refinement of that Haki rivaled Whitebeard's from when Teach first joined the Whitebeard Pirates!
His plan's second step hadn't even begun. Facing such a powerhouse now—he feared he couldn't win. His grand ambitions might wither before they'd even taken root.
"Blackbeard?"
Allen cast a casual glance back, and Blackbeard and his crew instantly froze in terror.
"He spotted us—run!"
Blackbeard leapt from the eaves first, bolting toward the town, his pirate crew scrambling after him.
"Haha, Captain, you're looking pretty pathetic now!"
Burgess followed Blackbeard, pointing and laughing as they fled.
"Thieves hahaha! Who wouldn't, running into one of the sea's top dogs!"
Blackbeard didn't mind, wearing a carefree grin.
"What's happening over there?"
Nami glanced back along Allen's line of sight but saw nothing.
"It's fine. Thought I saw an old acquaintance—must've been mistaken."
Allen shrugged, and the three continued onward.
He didn't care about the Whitebeard family traitor. He'd snag that head when the time was right.
"Looking for an upwelling current? Going to the sky? That's a death wish!"
Montblanc Cricket, with his chestnut-shaped head, glanced at Allen and the two women standing outside his house.
"It's the others who'd be risking their lives. For me, a mere upwelling's nothing. Just find us a good spot."
"No… no way. There's no cumulonimbus forming up there. You'd fall even if you went up!"
"Hey, you're getting a bit chatty. I just asked you to find me an upwelling—why all the talk?"
Though he knew the man meant well, Allen didn't have the patience to slowly explain Sky Island's situation. He just wanted to locate an upwelling and charge straight to the White Sea!
The Sea of Clouds was still a sea—once there, Nami's skills would shine.
"Fine, I'll have the Saruyama Alliance scout it out. If an upwelling shows up, I'll let you know."
Meeting Allen's gaze, Cricket agreed without hesitation.
This was a man who'd razed a country. Even without unleashing his full presence, Allen's aura wasn't something Cricket could withstand.
His instincts screamed that if he kept babbling, he might not survive the day.
Three days later, Allen and the five others stood on the deck, watching two towering gorillas ahead, probing the sea currents and towing their boat in that direction.
"Allen, is there really an upwelling? That guy said it's easy to die—is there another way up?"
Nami eyed Allen with doubt. He lounged on a beach chair, eyes closed. Hearing her, he reached out and pulled her into a hug.
"Don't worry, the upwelling's not dangerous. The other route's in the West Blue—want to turn back and head there?"
"Fair enough."
Though Nami felt uneasy, she chose to trust Allen and joined him in peering ahead.
Suddenly, the sky darkened, the sea seemed to boil, and the waves grew fiercer.
"Bro, the foreshock's coming—everyone, brace yourselves!"
The gorillas on either side shouted warnings.
Allen rose calmly and glanced at the anxious women.
"Each of you grab something solid and hold on. Leave the rest to me."
The girls obediently clung to the mast, the railing, and other fixtures, tension etched on their faces.
Unlike battles, natural disasters—unstoppable by human hands—were the Grand Line's true terrors.
With overcast skies and pouring rain, a massive whirlpool gradually formed in the sea ahead. Compared to its scale, Allen's sailboat was like a mouse before an elephant—a staggering disparity.
Once the gorillas' boat tugged them to the whirlpool's edge, they sped away, fearing they'd be sucked in too.
"No… no way, are we going into that whirlpool?"
Nami's and Nojiko's faces paled. Every sailor knew that being caught in a whirlpool spelled doom—ship wrecked, crew lost!
"Don't worry, we're fine. This vortex is huge!"
Allen leaned over the bow, eyeing the giant whirlpool with fascination. In his past life, he'd only seen this in anime on a screen. How could that compare to the raw thrill of experiencing it firsthand?
