Claude walked toward me. He looked weak, and every part of his exposed skin was darkened. Yet, I couldn't move. The way he looked at me made me want to cry. It felt like he was mourning something he had lost.
I turned my gaze, but it fell on Joseph's body instead.
Kenneth had just stood up, shaking his head. "The organization of the NSA will collapse when they hear about this," he said. After a pause, he shrugged and added, "I bet they'll just pick a replacement."
"They're here!"
Suddenly, voices rang out from above. The sounds bounced off the stone walls as several Seekers appeared at the edge of the massive crack overhead. Flashlights swept through the darkness before ropes were thrown down.
I stood still, my gun hung loosely in my hand. I jumped when something touched my hand. I looked down to see Claude gently taking the weapon from me.
