"You killed him," I whispered. Joseph's eyes flickered slightly. That small reaction shattered my remaining restraint. "You killed your own brother!"
My voice echoed harshly in the underground chamber. The dungeon shook again. I didn't even notice my ability had activated until the darkness around the room started to break apart.
"He respected you! He admired you! So, why did you—"
My voice cracked. I couldn't finish. No matter how angry I was, a part of me still couldn't understand why. Was it because he was one of the lords of the underworld organization? Did he have to do it out of duty?
But he could have let Allen go. He could have killed anyone but him! Why must he—
"You wouldn't understand, Jade."
My blood boiled even more. I clenched my fists. For a moment, we all went silent.
The underground chamber was lit only by scattered fires from above. Through the cracks in the ruined ceiling, embers floated down like dying stars.
