Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Awakening Power

Chapter 2: Awakening Power

The days and weeks after Jack's rebirth were a blur of sensory overload. The world was so loud—everything amplified to an unbearable degree. His tiny body could barely process all the sensations. Lights too bright, sounds too sharp, smells overwhelming. He was an infant again, and his physical form was underdeveloped. But his mind? His mind was alive, sharp, fully aware.

Jack realized early on that he was in a hospital. The voices around him were muffled, but he could make out fragments of conversations. Doctors. Nurses. People talking about his health, his weight, how his birth had gone. But Jack couldn't focus on any of that. His mind was elsewhere, spinning with the realization that this wasn't his world.

This was the DC universe.

As a baby, there was little Jack could do but wait. It was infuriating, this lack of control. His mind had never felt more alive, but his body was useless—frail and small, unable to do anything but cry, eat, and sleep. He had been reborn, yes, but what did that mean? Why had this happened to him? Why had his soul merged with the game file and the Speed Force?

For now, the answers were beyond him.

**Early Childhood**

Time passed. Jack's body grew, though it felt agonizingly slow. As he learned to crawl, then walk, his mind never stopped racing, filled with questions and theories about his situation. He understood now that he wasn't just reborn in a random universe. He was in the world of DC—where superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash existed.

He recognized names when people spoke about the cities. Central City. Gotham. Metropolis. And with that realization came a new one: *he wasn't just reborn in any world*. This was a world of danger. Supervillains. World-ending threats. And what was he, in comparison? A baby. He wasn't like the heroes he had admired in his past life. He was just… Jack.

But was he?

Even as a child, strange things began to happen. At first, it was subtle. His reflexes were sharp—sharper than they should have been for a child his age. He would catch things before they hit the ground, or dodge something without thinking. And then there were the other incidents. The more unsettling ones.

The moments when time seemed to slow down.

At first, Jack thought he was imagining it. When he was around four years old, he was playing outside, running after a ball that had rolled away. As he reached out to grab it, everything around him slowed to a crawl. He could see the ball in perfect detail, its rotation, the way the wind brushed against its surface. He felt his hand move toward it, faster than it should have been able to, and for a brief moment, it felt like the world had frozen.

Then, as quickly as it had happened, everything returned to normal.

Jack sat down, his heart pounding. What was that?

Over time, the strange incidents continued. Time would slow, things would move at unnatural speeds, and Jack would find himself reacting faster than any normal human should have been able to. He knew what it was—there was no mistaking it. The Speed Force.

Somehow, when his soul had merged with the game file, it had also merged with the Speed Force.

**The Glitches Begin**

But the Speed Force wasn't the only strange thing happening to Jack.

It started out small. Jack was watching a children's show on television, not paying much attention, when suddenly, the screen flickered. For a brief moment, the show glitched. But it wasn't a normal glitch. Instead of the usual pixelation or freezing, Jack saw something else: lines of code.

They weren't like anything he'd ever seen before—complex, unfamiliar symbols flashed across the screen for a fraction of a second, and then it was gone. Jack stared at the television, his heart racing. He couldn't have imagined that, could he?

The next day, it happened again.

This time, it wasn't just the television. Jack was playing with a toy car, racing it across the floor, when suddenly, the world around him seemed to stutter. The car froze in mid-air for just a second, then continued as though nothing had happened. But during that second, Jack saw the code again. It was faint, barely there, but it was real.

It didn't take long for Jack to realize what was happening. His soul hadn't just merged with the Speed Force—it had merged with the game file. The very game he had been playing when he died was now part of him, and it was affecting the world around him.

The glitches became more frequent. Sometimes, reality itself seemed to stutter, like a video game lagging. Objects would flicker, people's movements would slow down, and always, always, Jack would see the code.

But there was something else, too.

One night, Jack lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, trying to make sense of everything. His life, his death, his rebirth—it all felt like a jumbled mess. He knew he wasn't supposed to be here. This wasn't supposed to happen. But as he tried to calm his racing thoughts, something strange happened.

A screen appeared in his vision.

It was faint, almost translucent, but Jack could see it clearly. A status screen. Just like the one from the game. His name was at the top:

**Name: Jack**

**Speed: Enhanced**

**Strength: Normal**

**Abilities: Speed Force (Basic)**

There were other stats too, but most of them were grayed out, locked behind some invisible barrier. Jack blinked, and the screen vanished.

His heart pounded in his chest as he sat up in bed, trying to make sense of what he had just seen. It was a status screen. From the game. But how? How could something like that exist in the real world?

Jack closed his eyes, trying to will the screen to appear again, but nothing happened. Still, the memory of it lingered in his mind.

Was his life… following the rules of a game?

**Exploring His Powers**

As Jack grew older, his powers became harder to hide. The glitches happened more often, sometimes in public, and he had to be careful not to draw too much attention to himself. But controlling his speed—that was another challenge entirely.

By the time he was six years old, Jack could run faster than any human alive. At first, it was exhilarating, the feeling of the wind rushing past him as he blurred across the playground. But it wasn't long before he realized that his powers came with consequences. When he ran too fast, the world around him would distort. He would see the code again, flickering at the edges of his vision. It wasn't just the Speed Force that was affecting him—it was the game file, the glitches.

He needed to figure out what was happening to him.

One day, while practicing his speed in the woods behind his house, Jack pushed himself too far. He felt the familiar rush of the Speed Force, the exhilarating feeling of moving faster than light. But then, just as quickly, everything froze. The world around him stuttered, flickered, and then… glitched.

Jack skidded to a halt, his heart pounding. The trees around him flickered like pixels on a screen, and for a brief moment, everything was replaced by lines of code. Jack's breath caught in his throat as he stared at the world around him, frozen and distorted. It was like he was standing inside a malfunctioning video game.

And then, just as suddenly as it had started, the glitch ended. The world returned to normal, the trees solid and real once again.

Jack stood there, panting, his mind racing. The glitches were getting worse. He didn't know how much longer he could keep this under control.

**The Glitch Deepens**

That night, Jack lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, his mind swirling with questions. The Speed Force, the game file, the glitches—it was all connected. But how? Why had this happened to him? What did it all mean?

His thoughts were interrupted by a familiar sensation—the screen.

It appeared before his eyes again, flickering into existence like a hologram. But this time, it was different. There was more information displayed on the screen.

**Name: Jack**

**Speed: Enhanced**

**Strength: Enhanced**

**Abilities: Speed Force (Level 1), Energy Manipulation (Locked)**

Jack's heart raced as he read the new stats. Energy manipulation? That wasn't something he had ever heard of. But it was locked. How was he supposed to unlock it?

Before he could think any further, the screen blinked out of existence, leaving Jack alone in the darkness. But the questions remained. What was happening to him? And how far did his powers go?

He didn't have the answers yet, but one thing was clear: Jack was no ordinary speedster. His connection to the Speed Force and the game file made him something else—something more. But if he didn't learn to control it, the consequences could be disastrous.
