Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Into the League

Chapter 5: Into the League

Months had passed since Jack's revelation about his connection to the Speed Force and the merging of the game file with his soul. During this time, his training with Barry intensified, and Jack became more adept at controlling the glitches that had plagued him before. His mastery over his abilities grew with each passing day, and slowly but surely, he learned to harness the Data Stream Access skill that had unlocked during his experience in the digital void.

He still wasn't sure why the Speed Force had been there at the moment of his death, but he was beginning to understand that everything in his life was connected—his powers, his rebirth, the game file, and the Speed Force. It was all leading toward something bigger, though he still didn't know exactly what.

As Jack's powers grew, so too did his encounters with the heroes of the DC universe. Barry had been true to his word, introducing Jack to other members of the Justice League, and over time, Jack had begun to build relationships with them. Though his abilities made him unique, his eagerness to learn and his determination to control his powers earned him the respect of the other heroes.

Time Skip: One Year Later

Jack's speed blurred as he raced alongside Barry through Central City, the wind whipping past them as they darted between buildings and across streets. Over the past year, Jack had grown significantly stronger, and his connection to the Speed Force had deepened. His reflexes were sharper, his control over his powers was more precise, and the glitches had become less frequent.

As they reached the outskirts of the city, Jack skidded to a stop, breathing heavily but grinning. Barry stopped beside him, giving him a nod of approval.

"You've come a long way, Jack," Barry said, a smile on his face. "You've got the speed under control now, and the energy manipulation is getting stronger every day."

Jack wiped the sweat from his brow, still catching his breath. "Thanks, but I feel like there's still so much more I need to learn."

Barry laughed lightly. "There's always more to learn. The Speed Force is infinite, and even I'm still discovering new things about it. But you're ready, Jack."

"Ready for what?" Jack asked, raising an eyebrow.

Barry's expression grew more serious. "The League. It's time."

Jack blinked in surprise. He had been training with Barry and occasionally working alongside some of the other heroes, but this was different. Joining the Justice League? That was on a whole new level.

"Are you sure I'm ready?" Jack asked, the weight of the moment sinking in.

Barry nodded. "I've talked with the others. They've seen you in action, and they trust you. You're not just some kid with powers anymore. You're a hero, Jack. And we could use someone like you on the team."

Jack felt a surge of pride and excitement, but there was still a hint of doubt gnawing at him. He had come so far, but there was still the lingering mystery of the glitches, the game file, and why his powers were so different from any other speedster. But if Barry believed in him, maybe it was time to take that next step.

The Justice League Watchtower

Two days later, Jack found himself standing in the Justice League's Watchtower, the legendary space station that served as the League's headquarters. He had been there a few times before, but this was different. This time, he wasn't just a guest—he was being inducted as part of the team.

As he walked through the gleaming halls, Jack felt a mixture of awe and nervousness. He had met most of the heroes before, but standing among them now, as one of them, was a humbling experience.

He entered the main briefing room, where the core members of the League were waiting for him: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, and of course, Barry. Each of them greeted Jack with nods or smiles, but it was Batman's piercing gaze that made Jack feel the most on edge. He knew that Batman didn't fully trust him—not yet. But he was willing to give Jack a chance.

"Welcome to the team, Jack," Superman said, his voice warm and reassuring. "You've shown that you have what it takes to be a hero, and we're honored to have you join the Justice League."

Jack smiled, but before he could say anything, Batman spoke up, his tone as stern as ever. "You've proven yourself in the field, but being part of the League is about more than just power. You need to be able to work with the team, to trust your instincts, and to trust us."

Jack met Batman's gaze, his nerves settling slightly. "I understand. I won't let you down."

Batman gave a curt nod, and the meeting continued. They discussed upcoming threats and missions, and Jack quickly realized just how serious the League's responsibilities were. These weren't just random battles—this was about protecting the world, and sometimes, the universe.

First Mission with the League

Jack's first real test came not long after his induction. A powerful new threat had surfaced—an alien force, not quite at the level of Darkseid, but formidable nonetheless. It was a cosmic entity known as The Collective, a hive mind that sought to absorb all knowledge and energy from the planets it consumed. Its next target was Earth.

The League mobilized quickly. Jack, still new to the team, felt the pressure of the mission weighing on him, but he knew he had to step up. His speed and energy manipulation would be crucial in helping the team combat this new enemy.

As the League gathered in the Watchtower, Batman briefed them on the situation. "The Collective is heading toward Earth, and if it reaches the planet, it will begin its absorption process. We need to stop it before it breaches the atmosphere."

Superman turned to Jack. "Your speed will be vital in this mission. We'll need you to relay information between teams and react quickly to any changes in the situation."

Jack nodded, the gravity of the mission sinking in. "I'm ready."

The battle against the Collective was intense. The entity's ships surrounded Earth, and the League split into smaller teams to fight off the invasion. Jack worked alongside Barry, using their speed to outmaneuver the enemy forces and relay crucial information to the other heroes.

As the battle raged on, Jack found himself face-to-face with one of the Collective's commanders—an alien being made entirely of energy, its form shifting and crackling like static. Jack could feel the familiar hum of energy manipulation in his body, and he knew that this was a fight only he could handle.

The alien attacked with blinding speed, its energy blasts tearing through the air. But Jack was faster. He dodged the attacks, his body a blur of motion as he tapped into the Speed Force. But it wasn't just speed that he needed—he needed control over the energy.

Jack focused, calling on the Data Stream Access skill he had unlocked. The world around him flickered for a moment, the alien's form warping as Jack tapped into the energy around them. He could see the data streams, the energy that made up the alien's body, and in that moment, he realized how to counter it.

With a surge of power, Jack unleashed a blast of energy manipulation, disrupting the alien's form and scattering its particles into the void. The battle was won, but Jack knew that this was just the beginning.

Time Skip: Several Months Later

Jack had fully integrated into the Justice League, proving himself time and again in battle. His powers continued to grow, and his connection to the Speed Force deepened. But there was still one mystery he couldn't shake—the origin of his powers and the merging of the game file with his soul.

As the months passed, Jack began to notice something strange. The glitches that had once been a sporadic annoyance were becoming more frequent again. It was as if the game file was trying to communicate something to him, something important.

One night, as Jack sat alone in his room, the status screen flickered into existence once more. But this time, it displayed something new—something that sent chills down Jack's spine.

Warning: Paradox Event Detected.

Jack stared at the screen, his heart pounding. A paradox? What did that mean?

The screen blinked, and new text appeared.

Origin Event Connected: Prepare for Rebirth Cycle.

Jack's mind raced. Rebirth cycle? Could it be? Was this the moment he had been waiting for—the moment when everything would finally come full circle?

But as the status screen blinked out of existence, Jack was left with more questions than answers. He knew one thing for sure: something was coming, something that would change everything he thought he knew about his powers, his rebirth, and his connection to the Speed Force.

And this time, there would be no going back.
