Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Let's Have Lunch

It was almost noon and Lyra had begun to regret her decision. It was just her first day but her small desk was already piled up with loads of work. How much more cruel could Caleb be? The door to the office they share was opened and Caleb strolled in with another pile of files in his hands. Lyra's eyes went wide. Were those for her?

Lyra couldn't help but think Caleb was doing all this purpose. Was he trying to kill her for stealing his job? "Miss Levine, the boss wants you to review these files and send them to his office before lunch break." He told her with a straight face. " Why should I? Aren't you the personal assistant?, I'm just your assistant. Why am I the one doing all the work?" She popped with an annoyed pout. "Boss' orders." He simply replied and went to his seat. Lyra huffed. She suspected it had something to do with that stone- cold husband of hers. She can't believe he made her do all these work. He really had no conscience.

She picked up one of the files and went through it absent mindedly. She was getting fed up so she threw the file on the table and got up. "Hey, Mr. Caleb." She called to the busy man who looked up at her almost immediately. "I'm tired. I need a break." Lyra couldn't take anymore of the torture that cold man was inflicting on her. She needed to get out of the office quickly before she suffocated. "But it's not lunch time Miss. Levine." Caleb calmly replied her. "Then help me out. I'm afraid I might just lose my mind if I continue sitting there and viewing those boring files. Isn't there something else I can do? " She rambled and Caleb sighed. Although he did feel pity for her, he couldn't do anything. The President had strictly ordered that he hand the files to her. He wasn't allowed to help her as well.

He knew the boss wanted to punish her for threatening him earlier and making him late to work so he dared not interfere. "I'm sorry Miss. Levine but there's nothing I can do to help you. Try to do as much as possible before lunch so the boss doesn't get angry." He told her and Lyra scoffed. Who cares if he gets angry? He is so inconsiderate. She was tempted to march towards his office but she remembered the look in his eyes earlier and shivered. She didn't have the courage to go to him so she huffed and went back to her seat.

Caleb got a call from the President's office and got up to leave. "Where are you going?" Lyra forgot to mind her business. She just needed to take her eyes of the files on her desk. "The President called for me." Caleb told her and she nodded. "Well, when you get there, tell him I said he's an inconsiderate asshole and I hate him and I'm going to ruin all his files if he doesn't get them out of my sight. " Caleb stared at her dumbfoundedly. She just said all that like it was nothing. Did she really expect him to relay such a message? The boss will have both their heads. He quickly shook his head and left the office. The woman was indeed very bold and yet lucky. It seemed the boss was in a good mood these past few days as he had tolerated all her actions. He had never seen his boss so lenient to anyone.

He opened the glass door and entered Julian's office. "Sir." He called to Julian whose eyes were fixed on a file on his desk. Without looking up, he spoke. "What is she doing?" Caleb already knew who he was referring to so he quickly answered. " She's still attending to the files sir. " Seeing as Julian looked calm, Caleb decided to plead for Lyra.

"Sir, she seems to be having a hard time handling the reviews. How about I help her a little so she doesn't ruin them? The files are really much and she really doesn't know what she's doing."

Julian took his eyes off the file he was reading and looked at Caleb whose feet had turned to ice. "You seem to care a lot about her Caleb. How about I fire you for not minding your business and she keeps your job? " Caleb quickly shook his head and stared at Julian with pleading eyes. "I'm sorry sir, I just thought..." "Didn't she say she was learned and could do any job? How come she's having a hard time?" Julian cut him off in a low tone taking his eyes back to file he was reading. "I don't know sir." Replied a shaken Caleb. Julian scoffed thinking of the audacious woman who had boasted about her capabilities and had threatened him earlier.

He wondered if she enjoyed his come back. She thought she could get away with what she did? She wanted to be his PA right? She got what she wanted, and she would enjoy more of it as days passed. "Nobody is allowed to help her. Inform her that the files should be ready and on my desk before lunch break or else, she should forget about eating or leaving that office. " He concluded and casually waved his hands signalling for Caleb to leave. Caleb bowed in reply and walked out of the office.

By the time he got back to his office, he found Lyra asleep on her table and his eyes went wide. What was she doing sleeping in the office? It was the highest form of unseriousness and laziness and Julian hated it. It was almost lunch break and she wasn't done with the files. He tapped her slightly and she jolted up from her seat. "Miss. Levine. The President wants all the files in his office before lunch break. How can you be sleeping comfortably right now?" Lyra rubbed her eyes with her hand and yawned. "But I'm tired." She whined.

"You'll get into trouble if you don't finish your work. The boss says if the files are not on his table before lunch break, you shouldn't leave the office or eat anything." This caught the inattentive Lyra's attention.

She couldn't believe it. How much more cruel could he be? Depriving her of her break. She sighed and stared at the remaining files on her table. 'I guess I'm doing this after all. ' she thought to herself and got to work. Caleb sighed and headed to his own desk.

An hour passed and lunch was almost over by the time Lyra finally finished with the files. She dropped her head in the table and raised her hands to the air. She wasn't sure she would be able to use them ever again judging from how cramped they had become. She sighed. The only thing stopping her from barging into Julian's office and screaming at him was the deal she made with his mother. She decided it was time for step two. Even though she hated him for what he had done to her, she hadn't forgotten her reason for enduring his torture.

She got up and took the files. She was gonna take it to his office herself. Although he did say, Caleb would return the files, Caleb wasn't in the office so she rushed out and headed for his office. She wore her coat of boldness and knocked on the glass door. It was obvious he could see her from were he sat but she didn't let him intimidate her. She waited until he finally let her in. "What do you want?" He coldly asked even after noticing the files in her hands. Julian clearly remembered telling Caleb to deliver the files back himself so why was she the one in his office? "I came to drop the files sir." She replied respectfully even though she wasn't feeling very respectful inside.

"Drop them and leave." His voice was cold as usual. She approached his desk and dropped the files but then instead of leaving, she stood staring at him. Julian didn't understand why she was still in his office after dropping the files and narrowed his eyes at her. "What are you still doing here? Didn't I say leave?" He asked her and she shook. Lyra exhaled repeatedly and finally said what she wanted to with a wide smile "Let's have lunch."
