Chapter 472 - Chapter 368 : Fifteen Years of Being Discussed!!

"Worse how," Orochimaru said.

Not a demand. Not yet. Just a question aimed at a man who'd just admitted something out loud that he clearly hadn't meant to say to a room.

The masked man didn't answer him. His mask had gone still in a way that read less like composure and more like a man carefully not looking at something, the way people avoided looking directly at a wound.

The boy did.

---

"He means me," the boy said, and he said it the way a person announces the weather — flat, factual, no weight behind it at all. "I'm the worse. He's not wrong to be worried. He built me to be worried about."

Kagetsu's stomach dropped.

"Built," he repeated. "Not sealed. Built."

The boy nodded, once, like Kagetsu had gotten the answer right on a test nobody else in the room had realized was being given. "Sealed implies I existed first and he locked a door on me. That's not what happened. He made the door and the thing behind it at the same time, out of the same material. There's a difference, even if the end result looks the same from where you're standing."

Orochimaru's arm, still half-transformed from the earlier block, flexed once, an old habit of readiness he didn't seem aware he was doing. "And what material was that."

The boy looked at him for the first time, unhurried, assessing. "Ask him," he said, nodding at the masked man again. "It's a longer answer than you'll like, and it isn't mine to give first."

[Divergent Expression: Update]

New data ingested: subject-provided origin statement, unprompted

Assessment: First voluntary disclosure this arc — subject offered information before any pressure was applied.

Correlation flag: "Built, not sealed" — structural language matching the split-faced figure's own unexplained manifestation event (Ch. 326-330). If accurate, this is not a coincidence of phrasing. This may be a shared origin process, not just a shared creator.

Cross-reference: Subject's calm delivery pattern (flat, declarative, no defensive markers) is itself atypical — every prior unclassified entity this arc has shown some resistance to disclosure. This subject appears to want to be understood.

Recommendation: Continue monitoring. No action indicated. This is the calmest read Divergent Expression has produced all arc, which is its own kind of alarming.

---

"I didn't seal something that already existed," the masked man said, finally, quietly. "I made him. And then I sealed what I made, because what I made turned out to be a mistake I couldn't afford to let loose."

"A mistake," the boy said, and for the first time something sharpened in his voice, gold eyes narrowing just slightly. "That's a generous word for it. Say the real one."

The masked man didn't.

"See," the boy said, to the room now instead of to him. "Fifteen years and he still can't manage it. Some habits outlast the reasons for keeping them."

---

Hiruzen's hands had stopped shaking, which was somehow worse than when they had been.

"You made him," Hiruzen said slowly, "the same year you disappeared from the village records. The same year the report I burned came across my desk."

"You burned it because I asked you to," the masked man said. "You did that for me, sensei. Whatever else you think of me now, remember you did that willingly."

"I did it because you told me it would protect people," Hiruzen said. "You never told me who from."

For a long moment neither of them spoke, and the silence between them had the particular weight of two people who had loved each other once, in whatever way a teacher loves a student, and were now standing on opposite sides of everything that mattered. Danzo watched the exchange without expression, filing it away the way he filed everything, patient in a way that made the patience itself feel like a threat.

"Would it have changed anything," the masked man asked, "if I had told you the truth back then?"

"I'll never know," Hiruzen said. "You made sure of that."

---

The boy's attention drifted, unhurried, past Hiruzen, past Danzo, past the raised weapons that hadn't yet found a reason to move — and landed, finally and completely, on the figure.

"Fifteen years," the boy said. "Fifteen years of being the thing everyone in this conversation talks around. Do you know what that's like? To exist as a footnote in someone else's confession?"

The figure's restraints strained again, the same crack-before-glass tension from Ch. 365, except this time it wasn't the wall-seal doing it.

It was the figure itself, pulling against its own bindings, small motions at first and then larger ones, like something remembering it used to be capable of more than sitting still and absorbing whatever the night decided to throw at it.

"I know exactly what that's like," the figure said. "Better than anyone standing in this corridor."

The two of them faced each other now, close enough that the resemblance Kagetsu hadn't wanted to name was impossible to keep unnamed any longer — the same set to the jaw, the same restless quality in the eyes, two versions of something that had clearly started from the same place and ended up somewhere very different.

---

"Then you understand why I'm here," the boy said, and took a step toward it.

Kushina's chains snapped fully taut, no hesitation this time, aimed and ready. She didn't fire them. She was waiting — for what, Kagetsu couldn't tell, and from the tight set of her jaw, neither could she. Her eyes moved between the boy and the figure like she was trying to solve a problem that kept changing shape the longer she looked at it.

"I'm not here to hurt you," the boy said to the figure, gentler now, and that gentleness was somehow the most frightening thing he'd said all chapter. "I'm here because you're the only person left who remembers what I was, before he decided what I'd become."

"That's not a kindness," the figure said. "Coming from you, that's never been a kindness."

---

The overlap started before anyone announced it.

Kagetsu felt it first — a pull behind his ribs, faint but immediate, like a second heartbeat trying to sync with his own from several feet away. He pressed a hand flat against his chest without meaning to, some animal instinct trying to hold something in place that had no physical form to hold.

"Something's happening," he said, and everyone in the corridor turned to look at him instead of at the boy and the figure, which felt wrong even as it happened.

---

[Divergent Expression: EMERGENCY UPDATE]

Signature overlap detected: Subject (the boy) ↔ split-faced figure

Overlap rate: CLIMBING — exceeds Ch. 345 Kagetsu/Kushina peak overlap rate by a significant margin

Correlation: Proximity-triggered, no physical contact required

Secondary detection: Both signatures now registering minor bleed into Kagetsu's own reading, consistent with the earlier 44% self-match — the overlap may not be a two-party event at all.

Recommendation: Increase distance between subjects if possible. Overlap trajectory suggests convergence, not equilibrium.

Analyst note: The last time two signatures converged this fast, it produced the source candidate. I don't know what converging these two produces. I don't think anyone in this corridor does either.

---

The figure's old crack — the one it had carried unhealed since Ch. 354, the one that leaked ash-red light and was never supposed to be possible outside Corridor Seven — split wider.

No blow had touched it. No jutsu, no chakra strike, nothing anyone in the room had done. The light spilling from it changed color as it widened, ash-red deepening toward something closer to the boy's own gold, as if the two colors were reaching for each other across the gap between them.

Just proximity. Just the boy standing close enough to remember out loud.

---

"Stop," the figure said, and its voice cracked along with the light spilling from its face, raw in a way it had never let itself be even at its worst moment with the masked man. "Please. Whatever you're doing — whatever this is — stop."

The boy didn't stop.

He didn't move closer either. He didn't need to. Whatever was happening between them had stopped requiring distance to close somewhere in the last few seconds, the overlap climbing on its own momentum now, indifferent to either of their wishes.

"Not like this," the figure said, and its eyes — that same pale gold, the color Kagetsu now understood belonged to both of them — found Kushina across the corridor, held there for one long, unbearable second.

"Not in front of her."
