Chapter 471 - Chapter 367 : Uninvited!!

It came through sideways.

Not walking. Not falling. Sideways, the way a reflection slides across a window when the light outside changes — there and then simply more there, until it was standing in the corridor like it had always been standing in the corridor and everyone else was the intrusion.

A boy.

Or something shaped like one.

He couldn't have been older than twelve, small enough that his silhouette looked wrong standing in the same space as the masked man's — a child's proportions dropped into a room built around adult-sized threats. Nobody moved to correct that impression. Nobody in the corridor looked like they thought it needed correcting.

---

[Divergent Expression: EMERGENCY UPDATE]

Subject: Unclassified — juvenile-presenting signature

Baseline match: 0% against every entity on file — CONFIRMED, not a data error

Secondary correlation: 44% structural match to Kagetsu's OWN signature — not the hand, not the split, a third pattern entirely

Recommendation: Cannot assess threat. Insufficient data. First-ever "insufficient data" call issued alongside a partial self-match.

Analyst note: This shouldn't be possible. A 44% match to Kagetsu that isn't the hand and isn't the split means there are now three Kagetsu-adjacent signatures active in this corridor. I don't have a category for that. I'm building one now, in real time, and I don't like what it's shaping up to say.

---

Kagetsu's knees hadn't fully recovered from hitting the floor. He looked up at the boy from where Orochimaru still had him half-caught, and something in his chest did a slow, sick roll, recognition arriving before understanding.

The boy's hair was black. His eyes weren't — pale gold, unblinking, wrong in a way Kagetsu couldn't name until he realized why.

They were the exact shade the figure's eyes went when its composure cracked.

Kagetsu had seen that color exactly twice before — once outside Corridor Seven, once tonight — and both times it had meant something in the figure was breaking past a point it could hide.

---

"Oh," the figure said. Just that. One syllable, and every ounce of restraint it had left went out of it at once.

The masked man hadn't moved since his step back. He was watching the boy with an intensity that read less like threat assessment and more like a man watching a door he'd nailed shut fifteen years ago swing open on its own. His hands, Kagetsu noticed, had curled into something that wasn't quite fists — the posture of someone bracing for an impact rather than preparing to deliver one.

"That's not possible," he said again, quieter this time, less certain. "You were sealed. You were supposed to be sealed."

The boy tilted his head — an unhurried, curious motion, nothing like a threat and everything like a threat, all at once.

"Sealed things don't stay sealed forever," the boy said. His voice was young. It shouldn't have carried the way it did, low under the corridor's own quiet, like it was speaking from somewhere slightly behind where he stood. "You should know that better than anyone. You're the one who built the seal wrong."

---

Danzo's Root operatives had their weapons up now, aimed at a target none of them fully understood, which made the aim worse than useless.

"Stand down," Hiruzen said, sharp, the first command he'd given since arriving. "Nobody engages. Not yet."

"With respect, Sarutobi-sama," one of the Root operatives said, "we don't know what that is."

"Neither do I," Hiruzen said. "That's exactly why nobody engages."

Danzo himself hadn't spoken. He was watching the boy the way he watched everything — cataloguing, filing, already three moves into a plan he hadn't shared with anyone in the room, his single visible eye narrowed to a slit that gave away nothing at all.

---

Kushina's chains, still lit, swung toward the boy on their own — the same involuntary snap from Ch. 365, except this time she didn't fight it. She let them point.

"He's not lying about the seal," she said, low, to no one and everyone. "I can feel it. Whatever held him — it wasn't chakra. It was something closer to what my chains are made of."

The boy's gold eyes found her, and for just a second something moved behind them that wasn't curiosity anymore. He studied her the way a person studies a face they recognize but can't quite place — testing it against a memory that didn't belong to him, exactly, but felt close enough to ache.

"You," he said. "You have her hands."

Kushina went very still.

"You knew her," she said. Not a question.

"I knew what came before her," the boy said. "Ask him." A small nod toward the masked man. "He's better at knowing things than admitting them."

---

The figure's chains — no, not chains, its restraint, the physical hold still keeping it pinned even now — strained visibly for the first time since the confrontation began.

"Don't," the figure said, directly to the boy now, voice raw. "Whatever you're here to say. Don't say it in front of them. Not like this."

"You don't get to decide that anymore," the boy said, and there was something almost gentle in it, which made it worse. "You decided enough. For long enough. That's why I'm here."

---

Orochimaru's grip on Kagetsu tightened.

"Kagetsu," he said, low and urgent. "Your hand-connection. Is it him? Is that thing on the other end of it?"

Kagetsu reached for the delayed hallway-feeling out of pure reflex and found — nothing. No pulse. No knock. No push.

Silence, but a different silence than before. Not absence.

Aftermath.

It felt, he realized, the way a hallway feels after someone has walked all the way down it and shut the door behind them — used, then vacated, the air still faintly disturbed by the passage of something that was no longer there.

"It's not connected to him," Kagetsu said slowly, working it out as he said it. "I think the connection — the whole hallway, the delay, all of it — I think that's what he walked through to get here. I think he used my hand as the door."

---

[Divergent Expression: Update]

Correlating new data: subject's arrival vector traced to Kagetsu's hand-connection channel

Assessment: The channel was not attacked. It was used as designed — for something it was never designed to carry.

New flag: If subject's 44% self-match is genuine and not coincidental, the implications for the nature of Kagetsu's original split (Ch. 359-360) require full re-evaluation. This is not a minor correction. This may be the central fact of the entire arc.

---

The masked man took a second step back — an actual retreat this time, not just recalculation.

"You shouldn't be able to use that channel," he said to the boy. "It wasn't built for you. It was built for—"

He stopped himself. For the first time all arc, he stopped himself.

"Say it," the boy said. "You've had fifteen years to practice saying it. This seems like a fair time to start."

---

Hiruzen's face had gone the color of old paper.

"I know that voice," he said, so quiet only the people nearest him heard it at all. "I've heard that voice before. In a report I was told to burn."

His hand had found the edge of his own sleeve and gripped it, an old man's tell, the kind of thing a Hokage learned to hide decades ago and had apparently forgotten how to, just for this one moment.

"You should have read it more carefully before you burned it, sensei," the boy said, and for the first time he smiled — small, humorless, aimed at Hiruzen alone. "Some of us don't stay buried just because you stopped looking."

---

The wall-seal behind him finally, fully went dark — not the fold-tighter dimming of Ch. 365, not the crack of Ch. 366. Dark and done, sealed shut the way a wound closes after the thing that caused it has already gotten out.

The boy took his first step forward into the corridor proper, unhurried, like the room belonged to him and everyone standing in it was simply waiting to be told so out loud.

Every adult in the room — Hiruzen, Danzo, Orochimaru, the masked man himself — reacted to that single step like it meant something none of the younger shinobi in the room understood yet. Minato's kunai came up fully for the first time all night, no longer held loosely at his side. Kushina's chains stopped pointing at nothing and settled, finally, on a single target.

"He's loose," the masked man said, and it wasn't a warning to the group. It was an admission, aimed at no one, spoken like a man finally saying out loud the thing he'd spent fifteen years hoping never to have to.

"He's loose, and it's going to be so much worse than any of you are ready for."
