A wave of foul-smelling smoke drifted in from the entrance. Wade waved his wand, muttering softly as he cast a spell, summoning a gust of wind to blow the stench away.
From the entrance came more shrieks and furious curses:
"It was you, wasn't it? Wade Grey, you're dead! You're dead!"
Amina shouted, stamping her foot.
Wade had thought they would charge in at once, but after waiting a while, only then did a few of them walk inside—without a word, they immediately flung their spells:
"Petrificus Totalus!" (×5)
The glowing spells struck an invisible shield, rebounding and blasting holes of all sizes into the walls.
Only then did Wade see them clearly—
They had apparently used Aguamenti on one another to clean up; their clothes were dripping wet. Amina and Fleur in particular looked deathly pale, visibly weakened.
Of course, the way they glared at him was full of hatred, as if he had been the one who blew up the ghoul.
Wade sighed and rose to his feet at a leisurely pace, asking, "Why did you have to set the ghoul on fire? The stench when it burns is worse than fermented troll dung—I'm pretty sure I read that in a book."
"Ugh—!" Fleur bent over retching reflexively, and tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes as she snarled through a twisted expression: "Shut… shut up… attack!"
Several spells tore through the air at once, striking at Wade from different angles!
Even if they hadn't mastered nonverbal magic, the group had trained themselves to whisper their incantations quickly. At this moment, just from the flashes of light alone, it was almost impossible to tell which spells they had cast.
But Wade didn't need to know.
His lips moved, his wand snapped up sharply, and the vines coiled on the ground lashed out like venomous snakes, intercepting each incoming spell with perfect precision.
BANG!
As the vines exploded into shreds, Wade flicked his wand again and said clearly: "Waddiwasi!" (Projectile Jinx)
Pebbles scattered on the floor suddenly shot out, like bullets striking their wrists. Cries of pain erupted almost in unison, and two wands even went flying.
The spells they had cast went off target entirely—Wade hadn't even needed to use Protego.
Watching the live broadcast, Sirius Black slapped his thigh with glee: "Ha! See that? I told you prank spells can be turned into real weapons!"
Remus Lupin smiled with quiet satisfaction. "Indeed… though to be that precise with the spell is no easy feat—especially while targeting six people at once."
On the battlefield, Wade didn't pause for a second. Strolling toward them almost casually, he flicked his wand once more.
The iron chains that had bound the ghoul suddenly snapped to life, whipping around from behind like serpentine lashes.
The rearmost, Diego, was caught off guard. With a scream, he was struck and slammed hard against the wall.
On the other side, Asada Chinatsu hurriedly tried to dodge, but lacking coordination, collided with Ryan, who was also evading. The two of them were instantly tangled in the chains and fell to the ground with a heavy thud.
In that instant, Amina suddenly crouched low and transformed into a leopard, roaring as she lunged at Wade with her sharp claws glinting coldly!
Just as her attack was about to strike, Wade suddenly said:
"Lumos Solem!"
"What?"
Ryan, still struggling against the chains, looked up in surprise. He hadn't expected Wade to use such a basic spell. The next moment, he saw the tip of Wade's wand erupt in an intensely blinding light, like a miniature sun exploding inside the dim chamber.
"Ahhh—!"
Several people screamed, instinctively raising their hands to shield their eyes, yet still feeling as if they had been struck blind.
The leopard, with its heightened vision, suffered the worst. With a howl, she instantly reverted to human form, collapsing to the ground. Curling up with both her hands clutching her eyes, she shouted in fury and frustration:
"Wade Grey!"
Wade didn't pause for even a moment. His wand flicked again and again, spell after spell flashing out.
BANG!
Moments later, the screams abruptly died away. The six of them lay sprawled on the ground, their eyelids swollen, streaks of tears still drying on their faces.
Wade had gathered up their wands as well. He instinctively wanted to snap them in half, but as his hand closed around one, he suddenly remembered this was still a competition. He stopped himself, held the wand up to study it for a moment, then casually let it drop.
The wands clattered to the floor. Wade turned toward an empty corner of the chamber and asked:
"I won't give them another chance to fight back. Could I trouble you to take them out of here?"
The invisible Auror: "…"
He's talking to me, isn't he? But how did he notice me? According to the rules, I shouldn't even reveal myself yet…
As he hesitated, Wade raised his wand again toward the fallen contestants—yet his gaze was still fixed on the Auror's hidden position.
"Or is it…" The young wizard asked politely, "…that you'll only take them away if they're seriously injured? If that's the case, well… that can be arranged too."
"Wait!" The Auror was forced to speak up: "This is enough! These six are already eliminated—I'll take them out right away."
Rules were rigid, but people were not.
If he stood by and watched living students—foreign wizarding school students, at that—beaten unconscious and then brutally injured under his watch, under the very eyes of their own headmasters…
Wade Grey, the champion, might not get into trouble—since technically, nothing he'd done violated the rules. But the British Ministry of Magic would certainly be thrown into chaos.
Watching his unconscious opponents disappear one after another—especially Fleur Delacour with her silver hair fanned out across the dusty ground—Wade calmly returned to sit beside the golden egg.
One hand propped up his chin, the other dangling lazily with his wand swaying back and forth, as he waited for the next champion to arrive.
Suddenly, he lifted his gaze and stared for a few seconds at a small blue bird perched on a protruding rock above the chamber. Then, as if nothing had happened, he looked away again.
…
The moment those gray eyes locked straight onto the camera, the entire audience fell silent.
No one could quite describe what they felt—only that, for a heartbeat, it was as though their hearts were being gripped tightly in someone's hand.
When Wade turned his gaze away, many people unconsciously exhaled, as if surfacing from underwater.
After a brief silence, Madame Maxime gave a sharp snort and said:
"This brat… Dumbledore, he isn't one of your old friends who drank an Age-Reducing Potion, is he?"
"Hahaha, Olympe, you really do know how to joke." Ilvermorny's Agilbert laughed heartily. "But seriously, that boy's magical skill is truly impressive!"
Karkaroff sneered: "Two of Ilvermorny's students were taken out in one go, and you can still laugh?"
"Why wouldn't I be cheerful?" Agilbert spread his hands. "My children gave it their all—there's nothing to regret, even in defeat. Karkaroff, you'd better pray your Viktor doesn't run into him later!"
Karkaroff's expression instantly darkened. He wanted to retort with something cutting, but worried it would only be more humiliating if Krum lost afterward. With a snort, he said instead:
"Worry about yourself! You've only got one student left!"
Durmstrang, after all, still hadn't had a single student eliminated.
But before Agilbert could answer, Karkaroff suddenly felt a chill down his back.
He turned his head to see Castelobruxo's Headmistress Carvalho staring at him, eyes cold as blades, as though intent on carving him apart.
Karkaroff: "…"
In that instant, he realized—Ilvermorny at least still had one competitor left, but Castelobruxo had already been completely wiped out.
He forced an awkward smile, though inwardly he thought: Pathetic! If it were me, I'd have already taken my students and gone home by now.
Turning back, Karkaroff's gaze softened with fatherly affection as he watched Krum approach the golden compass—only for his face to suddenly harden.
Beside the compass, several warriors had already arrived, stumbling out of the passage in ragged shape. They were still catching their breath as they looked up to see Viktor Krum walking out from the tunnel's depths.
"Oh? Looks like our star athlete is about to run into trouble too?" Uagadou's Headmaster Adeso said with a broad grin. "Let's hope he can handle it as smoothly as Wade Grey."
