Chapter 77 - Night of dream

Days melted one into the next, and Dewi spent every waking moment with Fitri inside the quiet sanctuary of her wooden home. Outwardly, she never voiced it. in fact, she even urged Fitri to return, worried that her parents might be growing anxious but deep in the hidden chambers of her heart, Dewi was radiant with joy. Fitri's presence filled the empty spaces of the house, and Dewi was profoundly, blissfully happy. She was simply too prideful to say it aloud.

On Friday, the 6th of December, Dewi decided she wanted to take Fitri on an outing. A quiet fear had begun to creep into her thoughts, the fear that Fitri might grow bored, confined within the same four walls with nothing to occupy her days. This time, she proposed a journey to the nearest mountain, or more accurately, a hill, since the Cilacap region had no true highlands rising far above the sea.

"So… would you like to go on a trek, climb a mountain? It seems more exciting than staying at home. It's been rather boring," Dewi offered.

Fitri nodded. "Mhmm, it could be fun. I've never climbed a mountain before. But… how many days will we stay overnight?"

"A hundred days, if you want," Dewi answered, entirely joking.

Fitri, "...."

"i'm just joking jeez!!"

Because the journey promised to be very long, they busied themselves with preparation. They went to the market, cooking meals that could last longer than three days. That entire Friday was swallowed by packing and readying everything they would carry. During the preparations, Fitri stumbled upon something.

"Is this a dildo?" she asked, feigning innocence.

"If you already know, why ask?" Dewi replied, her cheeks flushing with a hint of embarrassment.

Fitri's voice dropped to a seductive murmur. "Are you planning to bring this…?"

Dewi merely nodded, then escaped to the kitchen to continue cooking.

They spent the whole day engrossed in these tasks, so by the time the Maghrib call to prayer echoed, they collapsed into bed and fell into a deep, exhausted sleep.

The alarm clock shrieked at 11:00 p.m. They awoke, their bodies feeling reasonably rested. They began strapping on their hiking backpacks and stepped out of the house.

"Don't forget to lock the house. Afraid of thieves," Fitri reminded.

"I know… Besides, a house like this, what thief would even be interested?"

Fitri could only laugh at that remark.

Once the door was locked, they embarked upon what promised to be an exceedingly long journey. Because the destination was so distant, they first booked a Go-Car. Walking all the way to the base of the mountain was simply impossible, it would take an estimated four days.

"You two are heading to the mountain, yeah, judging by the travel map?" the driver inquired.

"Yes, Uncle, we're indeed going to climb the mountain," Dewi answered.

The driver turned on the car and began the journey. On the road, the atmosphere was profoundly quiet.... so silent that Fitri soon fell asleep. To break the stillness, the driver struck up a conversation with Dewi.

Driver, "So… are you both from the city?" he asked, trying to thaw the icy silence.

"No, I'm not from the city, though I do study there. As for my friend…" Before she could finish, Fitri's mischievous hand, even in sleep, reached up and covered her mouth.

"Fit, are you awake?" Dewi asked, looking down, only to find Fitri's eyes still shut in peaceful slumber.

The driver, witnessing this, suspected nothing. "You two must be best friends… It's obvious from how close you are. Seeing you two, Uncle here misses his own best friend… Sadly, he's been called by the Almighty."

Best friends, my ass… I'm her girlfriend, dammit.

Fitri heard that entire conversation. In truth, she had been awake even before the driver began asking questions. She was only pretending to be asleep so she could rest her head on Dewi's body, stealing her warmth in the chilled air of the car.

Dewi, "Rest in peace. By the way, forgive me for asking, but how did your best friend pass away?"

Sigh. "Uncle doesn't know. At the time, Uncle was working in Japan, so I never found out the exact reason he died. Some people said it was illness, but others said he was poisoned… Uncle just doesn't know who to believe anymore."

Dewi listened while her fingers absently played with Fitri's lips, pinched her cheeks, and stroked her short hair.

"Ah… I see. And Uncle… are you married? Sorry if I'm prying…"

The driver, "No, Uncle doesn't want to marry. I was once forced to marry by my mother, but well, I ran away to Japan instead. Haha."

He must be gay. If he liked pussy, he'd probably have ten wives by now. The thought echoed inside Fitri's head.

"Ah, I see, Uncle. Happiness truly does come from within, not from force. In my opinion, Uncle's choice was the right one," Dewi expressed her view.

The driver simply smiled and let the conversation fade.

Dewi glanced at the screen inside the car, they would arrive in two more hours. That meant they'd reach the starting point around four in the morning.

When Fitri opened her eyes and gazed upward, she saw that Dewi's eyes were closed. Fitri found her utterly adorable.

You're so cute and sweet, sleeping in an upright position like this.

At that moment, Fitri sneaked a peek toward the driver, who was focused on the road, listening to music with a single earbud in his right ear.

Fitri couldn't fall back asleep, so she simply stared at Dewi's face, which seemed to glow in the dim light. Her features were naturally stern and fierce, but upon closer inspection, they were deeply alluring. Having such thoughts made Fitri fiercely jealous of anyone else who might gaze upon Dewi's face with lustful eyes.

If anyone else looks at you with those kinds of eyes, I'll flay their skin off.

As Fitri watched, Dewi's eyelids began to flutter open, bit by bit. Immediately, Fitri snapped her own eyes shut, feigning sleep so Dewi wouldn't notice.

Dewi looked around, then gazed down at Fitri, still seemingly asleep in her lap. "You hopeless sleepyhead," Dewi whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Before doing so, she had cast a quick glance toward the driver, afraid of being seen.

After kissing Fitri's forehead, she took the initiative to ask the driver, "Uncle, where are we now, and what time is it?" She actually could have looked at the front, but her eyes were still a little blurry from just waking, making the screen beside the driver slightly too glaring to see clearly.

"Ah, you're awake, miss. Well… it's now half past three, so we should likely arrive in about half an hour," the driver explained.

Dewi, "Ah, thank you, Uncle."

That means I slept for quite a long time, Dewi mused to herself.

On the other side, Fitri stirred from her pretense of sleep. Her eyes were somewhat red, but because of the darkness, Dewi didn't notice.

"You're awake, Fit…" Dewi said, reaching out to tidy her girlfriend's hair, which had become wildly disheveled.

"Aouuuhhh… Yeah."

"Are you from Japan?" the driver suddenly asked Fitri.

"Is something the matter?"

"Ah, no. It's just that, looking at you, you don't quite appear Indonesian. Though, if only glimpsed briefly, you do look like you could be from here," the driver remarked, sounding a bit puzzled.

"Yes, I am indeed from Japan. Actually, not entirely..... I'm only mixed, so I'm not purely Japanese."

"Ah… That explains it. Because when Uncle was in Japan, your face looked very similar to the people there."

Fitri only nodded, but inside her heart, she was cursing the driver.

After the long, sedentary ride, they finally reached the starting point at the foot of the mountain. Dewi was brimming with excitement, but Fitri appeared merely indifferent, her expression veiling a deep well of sadness she couldn't express.

I'm afraid of losing you.
