"I'm dying," Samuel said, his voice flat and empty. He didn't feel like living. He felt his end was so close and at this time all he felt was regret. He had never lived the life he wanted. He wished he had killed that bastard Pablo and had lived his life on his own terms.
Leo remained silent. His gray eyes studied Samuel's face.
Samuel took a ragged breath.
"I asked you to come because I wanted to say something before I go." He paused, his voice growing weaker. "I know you don't believe me. But I'm sorry, Leo…For everything…For Bella... For all of it."
Leo's expression didn't change.
"I loved her," Samuel whispered. "But I loved her the wrong way. I was obsessed.. I hurt her…I hurt you." His eyes glistened. "I was wrong."
Leo studied him for a long moment.
Then, quietly: "Why are you telling me this?"
Samuel smiled weakly. "Because I don't want to die with nothing but hatred left in me."
He closed his eyes. "Take care of her, Leo."
Samuel's breathing slowed.
