"Doctor... what's happening to my Bella?"
William's usually steady voice carried unmistakable worry as he stood beside the bed. His hands were clasped behind his back, a posture he usually maintained when he was trying to stay calm but his fingers were gripping each other too tightly, his knuckles white.
"She was sleeping so peacefully... and then all of a sudden she started thrashing around. I've never seen anything like it. She was so still one moment and then—" His voice faltered.
His brows were tightly furrowed as he looked at Bella, whose forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat. Her caramel hair was damp, sticking to her temples in dark strands and her lips were parted slightly as she breathed in shallow, uneven gasps. Her fingers twitched against the blanket.
"She kept struggling... like she was trying to escape from someone. Like she was fighting for her life."
His expression darkened.
