Why Lucavion?
Lianne had asked herself the question before crossing the Floor.
Curiosity explained enough.
She had met arrogant heirs, reckless cultivators, and talented young nobles who mistook ability for permission to ignore everyone beneath them. Lucavion resembled each type until one looked closely.
Then the resemblance fell apart.
At the Entrance Banquet, he had confronted Crown Prince Lucien before half the Academy's important names and behaved as though the difference between their positions merely made the situation more entertaining.
Orientation had added Magister Marisse.
Another powerful enemy. Another public confrontation. Another decision that seemed designed to make his future more difficult.
Lianne still did not understand what he expected to gain.
Perhaps nothing.
