Before the press conference, Xu Kai looked at the stock of the Xu Group dropped by thirty percent, the board had called a meeting, and Xu Kai had reassured them that he would the press to clear the rumors and launch Cheng Xiao's own collection which would bring in millions of dollars.
"There is no such thing as a bad publicity." He said to the board.
"Besides the rumors are somehow true." Xu Kai added.
"Meaning? Are you sleeping with an employee." A board member asked.
"No, I am sleeping with my wife. It is only legal; Cheng Xiao and I are married." He said to them.
"Married! When did you get married?" They asked one after another.
"Six months ago, we have yet to hold a wedding ceremony. When that happens, you are more than welcome to attend." He replied.
"Chairman!" They all turned to Xu Kai's father.
"Yes, Cheng Xiao is my daughter-in-law." Mr. Xu replied and they set the matter to rest.
"Okay, do as you say." They said and the meeting came to an end.
By the time the meeting ended, it had been the time for the press conference. Xu Kai walked to the elevator and called Cheng Xiao to come, so they could go together. The door to the room was opened and the two stepped out hand in hand and sat down.
"I would like to dress the public; Cheng Xiao is not my mistress nor did sleep her way into being my assistant for seven years." Xu Kai said and the sound of keypads was all you could hear.
"If she isn't your mistress then what is she?" A reporter asked.
"Don't interrupt me." Xu Kai said coldly.
The reporter sat back down.
"I came to address the issue, so listen before you interrupt. If you don't want to listen the door is wide open and you can leave." Xu Kai added.
No one in the room dared to make a noise, they all knew he would throw them out and then what would happen to their scoop.
"Cheng Xiao is not my mistress, she is my wife. We have been married for six months, and she didn't seduce me, I fell in love and forced her to marry me. I will not tolerate anyone slandering her, and yes, she was my assistant for seven years and in those seven years nothing improper happened between us. She was not even supposed to be my assistant but, on the day, she applied, she applied for a designing position." Xu Kai paused.
"I had fired my assistant that morning and seeing that the designing department was not in a rush to hire someone new, the HR pointed her as my new assistant and if you looked at it, she is the one who had been wronged. I had no idea she was even a designer until she quit, we got a married a month after she had resigned and then she came back to work, and no I did not pull strings for her, I transferred her there because that is where she belonged. You can ask your questions now." Xu Kai said.
A reporter raised a hand up; Xu Kai permitted him to speak.
"Miss, Cheng is true you studies design and this is not a cover up?" He asked.
"Yes, I studied design." Cheng Xiao replied.
"Miss Cheng, were you really forced into this marriage?" Another asked.
"Yes, at first I wanted a divorce, we are from different social class, and I didn't want to be labeled as a seductress like you guys did now." Cheng Xiao replied.
"Mr. Xu, if you guys are really married why did you choose to keep it a secret?" Someone asked.
"I had to win her heart; how would it look if it was public and my wife kept saying she wants a divorce." Xu Kai replied and in the room everyone laughed.
