Chapter 431 - Chapter 422

The boss room.....erupted.

Draco's ascent was not a mere charge; it was the breaking of a storm.

When the heels of his talons left the stone wall, the concussive blast shattered the molten puddles left by the previous lightning discharge into a million glittering, incandescent droplets.

He crossed the distance between them in a fractured frame of time, appearing directly behind the towering humanoid before it could fully process the visual input of his launch.

However, its instincts for survival quickly overcame its fear of his suffocating presence.

The female body type whirled around with unnatural fluidity, its four arms snapping into a defensive stance.

Two of its lower arms converged in a tight X-guard to absorb the expected momentum of a frontal strike, while the upper pair curved inward, fingers tensed and ready to catch him and execute a lethal counter-grapple.

'Smart,' Draco noted, a cold clarity settling over his mind as the adrenaline peaked.

The sheer speed of its reaction time and the tactical positioning of its limbs proved that whatever mutated creature this was possessed a terrifying degree of combat intelligence.

Unfortunately for it, Draco had other plans.

Seeing his initial path predicted, he altered his trajectory mid-flight.

His wings violently snapped forward, acting as massive aerodynamic brakes that folded his momentum into a tight, impossible hairpin turn.

He dropped a full meter, sliding beneath the crisscrossed guard of the monster's lower arms.

His shoulder drove forward like a battering ram directly into the creature's midsection.

Swish! Crack!

The sound of displaced air gave way to the sickening pop of compressed cartilage.

The monster's breath evacuated its lungs in a violent, dust-laden gasp that whipped Draco's hair backward.

Yet, the towering entity refused to yield.

With terrifying elasticity, it slammed its upper arms downward like a pair of descending sledgehammers, aiming to crush Draco's spine and grind his body into the stone floor beneath them.

Draco's crimson eyes narrowed.

His arms shot up, his clawed fingers extending upward to meet the falling doom.

He didn't try to dodge.

He met the descending mountain of flesh and muscle head-on.

Boom! Splat!

The impact resounded through the cavernous boss room, stirring up a massive cloud of reddish-brown dust.

Green-colored blood showered like teardrops over Draco's taut shoulders as his claws locked against the monster's wrists, digging deep into its flesh.

With a brutal display of friction and tension, he halted the descent of its massive arms a mere fraction of an inch from the tip of his horns.

The floor beneath Draco's talons groaned painfully, fracturing outward in a deep, circular crater as the immense downward pressure transferred through his frame and directly into the ground.

The female body type, instead of pulling away, ignored the agonizing pain of his claws tearing into its tendons.

It snarled, throwing its entire body weight forward to crush him.

Since Draco was significantly smaller in this humanoid guise, the creature had naturally assumed his physical strength was proportionally inferior.

However, Draco could only chuckle at its silly assumption.

"Hahahahaha, you want to beat me in a contest of strength?" he muttered, the amusement clear in his rich tone.

It was true that a regular adventurer facing a monster of equal level would be flattened instantly in a physical confrontation.

But that rigid rulebook didn't apply to Draco.

His base stats were astronomical, and beyond his current humanoid veneer, he was still, fundamentally, a young adult dragon.

Losing to a lesser mimicry of life in a trial of raw physicality was simply impossible.

"Guess I will have to teach you that lesson," Draco whispered, his voice dropping an octave into a dangerously low register.

With a sudden, vicious twist of his hips, he utilized the leverage of their locked posture and the fulcrum of his stance to redirect the monster's immense weight against itself.

"Raaaaaaah!"

With a roar of exertion, he hurled the multi-armed monstrosity across the chamber.

The creature crashed through a massive rock pillar with the force of a falling meteor, reducing the stone to a cascading avalanche of rubble that buried its upper body.

"Hehe, how do you like that?" Draco taunted, casually wiping a smear of green blood off his forehead, before it could drip into his eyes.

There was barely a pause, not even a second of hesitation, before the battle violently resumed.

The rubble exploded outward in a reddish-brown geyser as the monster writhed back to its feet. Its metallic crown of thorns sparked furiously, discharging bursts of static that scorched the surrounding air.

Red lightning, thicker and far more violent than its previous manifestations, began to weave itself around its limbs like angry serpents.

It was channeling for another area-of-effect discharge, intent on incinerating Draco where he stood.

"You really love that trick, don't you?" Draco muttered.

He vanished from sight in a blur as he accelerated his speed using high-tier wind magic.

He reappeared directly above the monster, suspended upside down as if gravity itself had chosen to bow to his will.

His right talon was drawn back, now wrapped in an emerald hue glowing so brightly it cast a floral, neon tint over the cavern walls.

As the monster threw its head back to unleash the torrent of stored lightning upward, Draco descended like a falling star.

Dragon's Descent: Wind Fang.

His heel connected squarely with the exact center of the monster's skull.

The resulting shockwave didn't just shake the room; it inverted the air pressure within the enclosed space, popping the eardrums of anyone who might have been listening from the outside corridors.

A massive dome of compressed force blasted outward, flattening the jagged surrounding rocks into rubble, and polished dust.

The monster's head was driven violently downward, burying its upper torso into the solid stone floor up to its shoulders in a deep, cylindrical crater.

The red lightning fizzled out instantly, choked of the magical focus required to maintain the volatile spell.

The room abruptly fell into a bizarre, heavy silence...a quiet vacuum that lasted only a few agonizing seconds.

Then, in a sudden, explosive burst of motion, the room erupted into the enraged, piercing shriek of the female body type.

It violently pulled its head out of the ground.

Its long, white hair and face were completely coated in the glowing green of its own viscera. Despite the horrific nature of the blow, there were no visible fractures or lingering indentations on its skull, even though any normal monsters head would have exploded from the force of his blow.

Draco wasn't surprised by this resilience.

He had already anticipated that, much like true demi-spirits, this creature possessed staggering regeneration capabilities.

'That aside, why isn't it immediately attacking again? Why is it circling the room?' Draco wondered, his eyes narrowing in curiosity.

The female body type, which had seemed consumed by blind rage just moments prior, had suddenly ceased its frontal assault.

Instead, it retreated toward the perimeter, beginning to pace the circumference of the chamber in a wide circle.

As it walked, it began to hum...a low, haunting melody that resonated through the room.

It stuck desperately close to the shadows of the walls, but its furious gaze never once broke contact with Draco.

'Look at this thing… is it actually chanting?' Draco mused, watching the ambient magic in the room begin to curdle and pool around the creature's silhouette.

This behavior only heightened his curiosity regarding what this specific entity had consumed to achieve feats equal to a genuine demi-spirit.

It wasn't entirely unheard of for a demi-spirit to chant and weave intricate spirit magic, but for a mere female body-type to exhibit such a high grade of spell craft was ridiculous.

Draco could distinctly feel the signature resonance of spirit magic channeling through the creature's body.

It was a familiar sensation, considering his innate magic was basically spirit magic.

Yet, he made no move to interrupt the process.

If anything, a thrill ran through his spine.

He welcomed an opponent capable of evolving mid-combat, eager to test the absolute boundaries of his base form.

And, as expected, the female body type did not disappoint.

When its haunting humming abruptly died away, a violent magical detonation erupted from within its core.

Like coiling vipers, red arcs of lightning crawled frantically all over its skin.

But unlike the previous accumulation...which had gathered strictly at its crown of thorns…..this lightning lingered, weaving itself tightly around its muscular frame like a living suit of armor.

"Ho, now this is interesting… looks like some kind of lightning cloak, but I highly doubt defense is its only function. Guess I have to get even more serious. Things might actually sting a bit if I'm not careful," Draco murmured, a predatory grin stretching across his face.

Taking a measured step forward, red sparks of condensed elemental energy began to dance across Draco's skin.

Much like the monster's display, the luminescence clung to his frame, forming a sleek, crackling second skin of pure spirit-infused lightning.

Upon seeing this, the female-shaped entity froze mid-stride.

Its distorted expression shifted, falling into what Draco could only interpret as shock.

At least, that was how he chose to read the micro-expressions on its unnervingly human-like face.

"Don't look so surprised, sweetie. You're not the only one who can use spirit magic… I can too," Draco couldn't help but tease, knowing full well there was no rational response coming. There was zero possibility the monster could comprehend speech.

However, to his absolute astonishment, something deeply bizarre occurred.

The expression on the female body type face...the one he had pegged as mere shock…..suddenly fractured, morphing into a look of obvious rage.

An unintelligible, blood-curdling roar erupted from its throat.

Without a hint of hesitation, it madly charged at Draco, its physical speed instantly skyrocketing into an entirely different dimension.

As it closed the distance, Draco's sharp mind instantly registered that something fundamental had shifted.

The calculated, predatory intelligence that had flickered in its eyes earlier was completely gone, replaced by an overwhelming, singular desire for total destruction.

Before, it had fought with strategy, utilizing its body and the terrain.

Now, it looked like a starving beast lunging at its last remaining meal.

'Why the sudden shift?' Draco wondered, his thoughts racing as the distance vanished.

Piecing together the scattered data points he had gathered in the micro-seconds before impact, Draco finally made a conjecture.

The precise moment he had released his own spirit magic...that was when the behavioral mutation had occurred.

A memory soon flashed through his mind, a piece of information regarding the nature of these beings.

Demi-spirits instinctively lose their minds, driven to absolute madness when they sense other spirit entities....desperate to devour it.

And a female body-type, the volatile pre-evolved stepping stone of a true demi-spirit, was evidently no exception to the rule.

A tragic reality, perhaps, but in battle, a mindless opponent was nothing more than a disappointment.

The monster closed the distance in a fraction of a second, a streaking blur of violet light.

Its four arms lashed out in a brutal, asymmetric strike, the red lightning cloak surrounding its body snapping like whipped cords of plasma.

The ground shattered beneath its wake, pulverized into glowing powder by the absolute savagery of its advance.

Draco didn't even bother to dodge.

Shifting his weight, he met the barrage head-on.

Red lightning flared around his claws like blinding gauntlets as he parried the upper two strikes with lightning-fast nicks of his forearms, the static discharge detonating between them with deafening thunderclaps.

He casually dipped his head to let the lower pair graze empty air.

The monster roared again and immediately swung again with the exact same violent pattern.

Swing.

Discharge lightning.

Attempt to devour.

Draco sidestepped, letting the creature's immense momentum drive it past him to crash face-first into the wall.

'Predictable,' Draco thought, a heavy sigh escaping his lips.

Where there had once been a cunning combatant capable of trapping him with positioning and clever guards, now lay only a starved beast driven by hollow hunger.

Its newfound speed and magic cloak were terrifying on paper, but without combat intelligence directing that power, its movements were as easy to read as a beginner's handbook.

The female body type peeled itself from the wall, its eyes wide, bloodshot, and completely devoid of reason.

Red lightning surged frantically across its hide as it coiled its legs to leap once more.

"You went from an intriguing warrior to a rabid dog in a span of ten seconds," Draco muttered, the thrilling heat in his blood cooling into a dull boredom.

"What a waste of time."

He wasn't about to waste any more energy playing along.

As the creature launched itself forward in another mindless plunge, Draco didn't move an inch. He simply waited.

Swish.

Draco pivoted smoothly beneath its center of gravity.

His left hand shot up, his clawed fingers clamping onto the monster's throat like a vice forged in adamantine.

The sheer density of his lightning armor instantly overpowered and burned away the creature's red cloak upon contact, neutralizing its defense in a shower of sparks.

The creature choked, its four arms flailing uselessly as Draco lifted its massive, heavy frame clean off the ground with a single arm.

Its eyes bulged, driven mad by the proximity of his spirit essence, yet entirely helpless to break his grip.

Its limbs simply refused to co-operate due to Draco's lightning now flowing through its body.

Draco raised his right hand.

And his lightning spun together, morphing from red to yellow, around his fingertips.

Then it coalesced into a shimmering, needle-thin spear.

A single piercing blow to the magic stone within its chest would destroy it, bypassing its regeneration entirely and ending the fight.

"Rest in peace," Draco said coldly, drawing his arm back to deliver the executioner's strike.

He drove his hand forward....

And stopped.

Mid-thrust, his claws hovered mere millimeters from the monster's chest.

Draco's breath hitched in his throat.

The glowing spear of lightning at his fingertips flickered and dissolved into harmless mist as every scale, every hair, and every nerve ending on his body stood on absolute end.

The ambient temperature of the room seemed to drop, replaced by an unnatural, crushing void that seemed to swallow sound, light, and warmth whole.

It felt as thought the room had become a monochrome blend of black and white.

The thrashing female body type beneath his grip suddenly went limp, its frantic eyes dilating in sheer, instinctual terror as its madness was swallowed by something far more fundamental: the fear of an apex.

Slowly, carefully, Draco turned his eyes away from the female body type.

Looking past the dust clouds toward the shadows at the edge of the cavern, he saw the silhouette of a person.

The silhouette was undoubtedly female, and although he wasn't sure who it was...….the aura exuded bore an uncanny resemblance to none other than.....
