Back on the forty-eighth floor of the dungeon, the residual heat of battle still lingered in the air, radiating from the walls like a slow-burning hearth.
"Ugh, my back," Draco groaned in complaint, rolling his shoulders and stretching his body to relieve the accumulated stress, especially in the thick, muscular base of his scaly tail.
His tail, much like his horns, was one of the most sensitive parts of his anatomy...a delicate nexus of nerves and hardened scales that required careful maintenance.
And today, he had used it far more than usual to whip away encroaching swarms, creating a dull, stinging sensation he hadn't quite felt in a long time.
Littered in a wide, chaotic radius around him were the glowing magic stones and rare drop items harvested from the endless horde of Flame Rocks he had been exterminating for the last few hours.
The whole scenario had been unforgiving, the monsters had come in waves, testing the limits of his stamina.
Finally, the tide had died down.
Their numbers were completely exhausted, and based on his knowledge, it would be quite a while before the dungeon spawned anymore.
The path below was clear, granting him uninterrupted passage to finally descend to the forty-ninth floor and confront whatever female body-type, demi-spirit, or mutated horror that had engineered this time.
But before all that...
'I need to gather all this loot,' Draco mused, his red reptilian eyes scanning the glittering piles of wealth.
Working efficiently, he quickly scooped up the magic stones and drops, dropping them into his dungeon bag until the floor was once again bare.
With his inventory secured, Draco stepped over the threshold and descended the artificial looking gaping hole leading deeper, his heavy boots echoing off the stone walls.
As he walked, Draco could still feel the faint, vibrations humming through the walls...distortions he had first noticed while slaughtering the Flame Rocks above.
His target was still down here, active, and violently reshaping its environment.
Upon arriving on the forty-ninth floor, Draco was instantly taken aback by its structural anomaly. It was a ridiculously large, cavernous rocky room, easily the size of several coliseums.
There was no grass, no glowing moss, and no weeping trees growing around.
Instead, the floor was covered in a thick layer of soil...no, looking closer, it resembled fine sand, possessing a distinct reddish-brown coloration that smelled faintly of sulfur.
Stray boulders and jagged rock formations were haphazardly scattered about, creating natural choke points and pillars.
"As expected of a boss room," Draco muttered in low awe, his breath misting slightly in the cooler air before he turned his undivided attention to the weirdly alluring, towering humanoid monster occupying a corner of the space.
It hadn't noticed him yet.
From what Draco could quietly observe from the shadows of the entrance tunnel, the creature was actively trying to widen the narrow tunnel connecting the forty-ninth and fiftieth floors.
Its massive upper body was wedged halfway into the descending archway, and its heavy, muscular hips were stuck out prominently into the air in a rather suggestive, provocative position as it frantically cleared out tons of rock, dirt, and structural debris with furious sweeps of its limbs.
The creature bore the rough outline of a female human or demi-human, though magnified to a terrifying scale.
Its skin was a smooth, vibrant shade of amethyst purple, contrasting sharply with the reddish environment.
It possessed four arms of varying lengths and thicknesses…..two powerful primary limbs meant for heavy lifting, and two secondary arms twitching near its ribs, ready to strike.
Its lower half consisted of two thick, immensely powerful legs planted firmly in the sand, while a cascade of long, snowy white hair fell over its broad shoulders.
Though Draco couldn't yet see its face, his intuition told him it wasn't going to be traditionally ugly.
'Phew, so this is a female body-type, huh? ...' Draco whistled, crossing his arms over his chest. This was his first time seeing one in the flesh, and he was genuinely surprised.
It looked far more humanoid, far more polished, than the crude, mindless behemoth he envisioned.
Although slightly disappointed that it wasn't yet a full-fledged demi-spirit...….the female body-type was still quite the magnificent sight.
These variants represented the evolutionary precipice, the dangerous threshold just before a they underwent metamorphosis into a demi-spirit.
Consequently, they were monstrously strong, possessing combat capabilities that rivaled some Monster Rex's.
And the one before him... Draco could instantly tell it was special, even amongst its own kind.
Just from the sheer density of the magic power emanating from its core, Draco estimated its combat capability to be hovering around the mid-level seven threshold....a ridiculously high benchmark for a creature that hadn't even completed its evolution.
"Well, whatever the case... still got to kill it," Draco muttered under his breath.
Without breaking his stride, he casually reached down and snagged a loose, reddish-brown rock with the tip of his sensitive tail, curling the appendage upward to bring the projectile into his hand.
With the rock gripped tightly in his palm, Draco took a casual step forward from the tunnel entrance.
He pulled his arm back, measuring the distance, and then launched the stone with only a fraction of his physical strength.
Even if he had hurled it at full power, a piece of dungeon debris obviously wasn't going to do any catastrophic damage to a level seven entity, so why waste his stamina on a cheap shot? Besides, his primary goal was to enjoy a genuinely good, heart-pounding battle.
That was precisely why he hadn't bothered obliterating it on the spot with a more potent attack when he first walked in...an easy feat given his true capabilities, especially while the creature was completely oblivious to his presence.
Thwack!!!
A sharp, echoing crack resonated through the cavern as the rock made direct, unceremonious contact with the center of the monster's exposed, perfectly rounded backside.
The rock, as he fully expected, failed to inflict any physical harm, instantly disintegrating into a harmless plume of reddish dust upon impact.
However, it achieved its secondary objective with terrifying efficiency: it instantly grabbed the monster's undivided attention.
With an infuriated, guttural rumble that shook the stalactites on the ceiling, the female body-type violently yanked itself out of the digging hole.
It scrambled backward, kicking up a storm of dust and debris, before standing up to its full, intimidating height.
It stood roughly seven meters tall, casting a long, ominous shadow over Draco.
And its face....despite the monstrous aura, it was strikingly, almost uncomfortably cute.
Large, luminous purple eyes blinked in sudden anger; a small, delicate nose sat above a pair of softly curved lips that looked entirely out of place on a towering giant.
Yet, any illusion of gentleness was instantly shattered by the rest of its features.
Resting upon its brow was a jagged crown of thorns, fused seamlessly with its skull, constructed from some unknown variety of black, light-absorbing metal.
The crown looked more like a horrific cluster of organic, metallic horns.
If not for the rows of razor-sharp, serrated teeth visible when it parted its lips, the monstrously deep voice echoing from its chest, and its unnatural purple skin, one could have easily mistaken the creature for a lost member of some ancient, long-dead giant species.
However, Draco didn't get to stand around marveling at its aesthetic for much longer.
The moment the monster locked its purple eyes onto his much smaller solitary form, it immediately abandoned all hesitation and went on the offensive.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
The ground shuddered beneath the heavy, earth-shaking footsteps of the giant humanoid as it closed the massive distance between them in a blur of motion, crossing the cavern in a mere four strides.
'Fast,' Draco thought, his eyes widening slightly as he easily sidestepped its initial, clawed attempt to snatch him.
Yet, the monster was not a mindless beast swinging blindly.
Seeming to have anticipated his exact evasive maneuver, the creature suddenly twisted its torso mid-stride with impossible flexibility, hurling a massive, suffocating wave of the reddish-brown sandy soil in a wide, blinding arc.
Instinctively, Draco threw his hands up to shield his face.
Regardless of a warrior's overall strength, the eyes remained a vulnerable, irreplaceable focal point that most beings…..even dragons...struggled to protect against direct, abrasive attacks. Even the One-Eyed Black Dragon had suffered its most significant injury to its eye over the last thousand years.
With his vision temporarily blocked by the gritty cloud of sand, Draco lost a fraction of a second...just enough time for the monster to capitalize on his blind spot.
Swish!
The creature's primary fist cut through the air with the velocity of a fired ballistic projectile.
The massive punch connected with Draco's crossed arms, rattling his bones and sending a shockwave through his internal organs as he was launched backward with bone-crushing force.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion echoed through the cavern as the entire floor shook violently.
Draco's body slammed hard into the solid stone wall of the boss room, his momentum carrying him deep into the rock face and leaving behind a massive, spider-webbed fractured crater shaped precisely like his silhouette.
"Ugh..." Draco groaned, coughing up a small plume of gray dust as he slowly began to crawl his way back out of the deep indentation.
To his credit, he hadn't sustained any fatal or even debilitating damage.
He had managed to activate his partial dragon transformation skill mere milliseconds before impact, hardening his skin and covering his torso in a dense layer of obsidian scales that successfully negated much of the kinetic trauma.
Still, the sheer force of the initial contact had bruised his ribs and rattled his teeth, sending a sharp, lingering ache through his chest.
However, the female body-type wasn't done playing.
As soon as Draco's head and shoulders peeked out from the dusty confines of the crater wall, the monster threw its head back and roared...a sound so loud it vibrated in Draco's jaw.
And then, something utterly bizarre and terrifying happened.
Spanning across the black, metallic crown of thorns embedded in its skull, vicious arcs of electricity suddenly sparked to life.
In the blink of an eye, thick, violent coils of red lightning crackled across its skin, wrapping around its four arms like writhing serpents.
In a blinding flash of raw energy, the monster discharged every ounce of that stored lightning directly at Draco.
KABOOM!
Draco, who had only just hauled himself completely out of the wall, was completely engulfed by the raging pillar of electricity.
Another massive, echoing explosion rocked the cavern, sending a shockwave of heat rippling outward that scorched the rocky floor black.
For a few agonizing seconds, the continuous lightning barrage persisted, the preposterous thermal output melting the surrounding stone walls into glowing, dripping rivers of molten rock. The air filled with the sharp, ozone-heavy scent of ionized air and burning sulfur.
The monster finally cut off the discharge only when roughly a quarter of its internal magic reserve was completely exhausted, chest heaving slightly as it surveyed its handiwork.
All that remained in the center of the hole was a thick, billowing cloud of acrid smoke, punctuated by the angry sizzling of cooling molten rock.
The female body-type stood silently for a few seconds, its heavy breathing echoing in the quiet chamber.
Seeing no movement, no counterattack, and no sign of life emerging from the smoke, the creature finally turned its back, assuming the threat had been neutralized, and prepared to return to its excavation hole.
However, just before its heavy foot could take a single step forward, its entire body suddenly froze.
A heavy, suffocating pressure…..thick enough to feel like physical lead draped over its shoulders...suddenly flooded the room, choking the air from its lungs.
The primal aura it was sensing caused its massive frame to involuntarily shiver in deep, instinctual fear.
It was an aura that triggered distant, coded memories within its newborn mind, recalling the overwhelming presence of the very first being it had sensed upon hatching from its jewel fetus.
Though the pressure felt slightly different in texture, the sheer, crushing magnitude of it was identical.
"You know what? I take back everything I said earlier," a voice cut smoothly through the sizzling silence.
Draco stepped casually out through the glowing, half-melted crater in the wall.
His red reptilian eyes shone piercingly through the dense, swirling smoke, glowing like the twin embers of a predator that had finally found worthy prey.
The obsidian scales of his partial transformation let out a low sizzling sound as it resisted the searing heat of the earlier barrage.
"You are not all that cute anymore," he joked, a faint, razor-edged smirk playing at the corner of his lips.
He brushed a speck of soot off his shoulder, his expression hardening into one of absolute focus.
"And you're not just an ordinary level seven threat. Based on that output, you're easily a peak level seven…..perhaps even brushing against level eight, simply because your combat style and tactical intuition are so eerily similar to a veteran adventurer. I really must take this a bit more seriously now."
Draco concluded his assessment as the heavy smoke parted completely, revealing his full, unaltered combat form.
With a powerful rustle of leather and bone, a pair of massive, draconic wings unfurled wide from his back, creating a gust of wind that instantly blew away the remaining haze.
Draco wasn't exaggerating for effect.
This monster, despite not even having completed its evolution into a full demi-spirit, possessed a terrifying repertoire of physical prowess, adaptive footwork, and devastating magic casting.
It was genuinely difficult to say if any other adventurer aside from himself, the elites of the Loki Familia, the heavy hitters of the Freya Familia, or the Bahamut Familia...could have possibly survived that brutal, chained-combo assault.
And the most exhilarating part was that Draco had a gut feeling this wasn't even half of what the creature had hidden up its sleeve.
The very thought sent a hot, thrilling rush of adrenaline straight through his veins.
"Come on, monster! Show me absolutely everything you've got!" Draco yelled out in pure excitement, kicking off the ground with a massive shockwave and launching himself headfirst back into the fray.
