Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

[36: Faster, Farther and Ready for the Future]

"Don't look so nervous, Iida, it won't hurt him at all. It'll be painless. Not only me, but many other doctors at this hospital have reviewed the treatment process, and your brother has agreed to it." Recovery Girl led Iida through the halls of the hospital where Iida's brother was. There was also Eleanor, who was accompanied by a healing drone.

"Thank you. I don't know how to express my gratitude." Iida bowed 90 degrees to Recovery Girl.

"Iida, you don't need to do all that. We're helping because it's what doctors and it's what, and this may be kind of cheesy, heroes do," Eleanor said.

"Yes, I know, but…I'll always be grateful for this," Iida said as he was upright again.

"Let's start moving. This process will be quick. The nanobots provided by Eleanor are self-replicating, and when they're job is finished they're disposed of naturally. Just some trips to the bathroom will be enough. After that, it'll be some physical therapy, and your brother will be just as good, if not better than he was," Recovery Girl explained.

"Oh, and I'm just here to provide the drone; I won't enter the actual treatment room. That's kind of none of my business," Eleanor said.

"We're here. You may view it if you want, Iida," Recovery Girl said as she entered. Eleanor sat on a nearby bench before pulling out her tablet to pass the time. Iida entered with Recovery Girl. The drone followed them inside. For just this instance, Eleanor would hand over temporary, but strict control of the drone.

(Some time later)

Recovery Girl exited. It was just her and the drone. The drone flew to Eleanor's side before it was recalled.

"Where's Iida?" Eleanor asked.

"He's going to stay here for a while."

"I see. I guess I'll leave now."

"Before you do, I want to ask you something."

"Sure. What is it?"

"How are you doing in your hero ethics class?"

"Hero ethics? I mean, I'm just going through it."

"Are you paying attention to it?"

"I'm paying enough attention to pass the class. It's not my main focus."

"It's not your main focus?"

"Yeah, it's not. I mean, you can't expect a student to give it their all in every single class, that's just not how it works. I pick and choose which classes need the most of my attention. Like, hero classes alone are a lot more important than ethics classes. And well, I'm not exactly the most popular or agreeable in my ethics classes with everyone else. I got into a little debate one time with Midoriya in the class just because I said something that's true. Why are you asking about my ethics classes? Don't tell me I'm in trouble just for expressing my opinion. Great, do I have to lie about what I really think just to get a passing grade?"

"No, no, it's nothing like that. What have you covered in your ethics class recently?"

"We just went over dilemmas or whatever they're called."

"What kind?"

"The teacher asked if breaking the law is right if it means saving someone, and I said yes, it was."

"Why do you believe so?

"Because some laws are very stupid and shouldn't be followed. And besides, the law is hardly a starting point for morality or what is right. Let me give you an example. If I started killing people in a public area with my quirk, I could kill hundreds of people before a pro hero could show up to stop me, but I could be stopped if someone from the public used their quirk to stop me. But you want to know what's messed up? If someone uses their quirk to stop me, they'll also get in trouble for 'unauthorized' or 'illegal' quirk usage. So, the reward for someone stepping up to put a stop to a violent action, for being a hero…is time in jail. Weird how that works, huh? So, yeah, some laws are stupid and shouldn't be followed. You should've seen how people reacted when I said this and used myself as an example."

"We have these laws in place for a reason, Eleanor."

"Yeah, I know, but look at America. I mean, the law regarding quirks over there is a lot different here. If it was America, the person who stepped wouldn't be punished. I mean, they might be arrested, but after a quick interview and a bit of legal assistance from Second Amendment organizations, they'll be found within their rights to do something like that. They might even be a hero in the news, which they are. Not everyone has the bravery and courage to stand up in the face of violence. So, yes, some laws are stupid, and I'll gladly break any laws if it means saving people. That's supposed to be a hero's job, isn't it?"

"I see. And the optics of it?"

"What about the optics? Oh no, some people online care about how I did something instead of focusing on what I did. Yeah, the optics shouldn't matter. Or at least, they shouldn't take precedence over actually doing something. Like, if a team of heroes sits around doing nothing except discussing plans and worrying about what the media will say instead of actually doing something, then they're the problem. While they sit around, people suffer, and a hero doesn't sit around letting people suffer when they have the ability to do something about it. But those are just my thoughts, Recovery Girl. As I said, I'm not exactly the most popular in my ethics class. I find them too idealistic. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but…there's a limit to how idealistic someone can be before they should recognize that they need to do things differently."

"Hmm…you seem to argue more about the methods instead of the results. You want to save people, but not everyone will agree with how you do it."

"Yeah, I guess so. So, uh, why such a question?"

"I want to see more of who you are as a person."

"Why?"

"Nezu and I are discussing something, and it involves you. We want to see if it's right to discuss something with you."

"Does this relate to my nanobots?"

"Yes, it does."

"If you need someone else healed, just tell me who it is."

"This patient requires too much privacy and secrecy."

"Huh. Well, uh, I hope I pass whatever test or something you and Nezu are doing. Have a good evening, Recovery Girl," Eleanor left the hospital with a thoughtful expression on her face.

Okay, so that turned into a lot more than just a little hospital visit to heal Iida's brother. So, Nezu and Recovery Girl are trying to vet me to see if I should know All Might's identity, because they want to see if my nanobots can heal him. I don't think I'll pass their test, especially after what I just said. I literally just painted myself as some kind of mass shooter in my scenario. That might be a bit much, but it gets across my point and views. I think.

Anyway, there's good news! Since the summer camp is only a week long, that leaves plenty of time for an actual vacation! I can go back home for a little bit! But, and there's always a but, the vacation can't be too long. No more than two weeks. However, I found a loophole. You see, if I go to America for a two-week trip, then once that trip ends, and I come to Japan, I can go for another two-week trip to America again, because the limit will reset. Sometimes my genius is…it's almost frightening.

So, yeah, I just have to tough it out for a week.

"Eleanor, I need your help regarding something about the summer camp," Aizawa was in Eleanor's dorm. Not her room, but the area where all the students would relax if the place were actually used.

"Me? Aren't I the one you're supposed to teach?"

"Yes, but this comes partly from Nezu. Your help will be in the form of academic help and in a classroom setting. Some of your classmates will need extra help academically, a remedial group. Since you've shown that you're clearly above the level that this school can teach you in certain subjects, and your ability to teach advanced math concepts that are way above your classmates' level, Nezu finds it appropriate to appoint you as a supplemental instructor, but only if you want to, of course."

"Will I be paid?"

"Yes."

"Okay, I'll do it."

"Are you only in it for the money?"

"Yeah? It's not exactly a bad thing, is it? We all need money, and the truth is, whether people like it or not, that money is sometimes the reason for doing things. I'm not saying I'm greedy, or anything, but people who say 'money can't buy happiness' clearly don't know what they're talking about. I get the message and motivation behind the whole thing about 'go live your life,' 'travel more,' and all this stuff. Well, guess what? You need money for all of that."

"Hmm…I can understand the reasoning. I'll be going now. Make sure you rest before the summer camp."

"Yeah, I know. See you, Aizawa."

Eleanor went back to her room to sleep. She was looking forward to meeting the Wild, Wild Pussycats.
