Chapter 126: Kill!

Zhang Yang finally understood—he'd run into assassins. Chen Tianxiong had already warned him yesterday, but he'd still been a little careless. He never thought they'd use such a method.

Their talk of reconciliation was fake; calling him and dragging things out was just to trace his phone signal and find his location.

Then they ambushed him with cars. Damn, weren't they too impatient? Driving the wrong way to ram him—couldn't be more obvious.

Zhang Yang sensed one of them walking away, probably to get tools.

On Xu Danlu's side, one man looked at her and sneered, "Such a beauty—what a waste to kill her. Let's drag her out for some fun first."

"Fuck off. Finish the job and go." The bald man with the gun shot them a glare and cursed.

Then he shoved the gun back into his pocket and reached for his lighter. Just as he did, the Land Rover's door suddenly flew open and slammed into his face. Zhang Yang leapt out of the driver's seat, grabbed the bald man's head by the ears, and smashed it hard against the car door.

With a loud "clang," blood and flesh splattered everywhere. The man went limp and slid down the door to the ground.

Another man froze, then swung a machete at Zhang Yang. His movement was shockingly quick. Zhang Yang instinctively dodged; the blade grazed his chest and slammed into the car door.

"Kill him!" the man shouted, calling for backup.

Zhang Yang had no weapon. Seeing the man's ruthless technique, he knew this wasn't some random thug. He couldn't afford to slip up. As the man shouted, Zhang Yang charged straight into him, knocking him off balance. The knife wavered, and Zhang Yang twisted his arm from behind, turning the blade and stabbing it deep into the man's waist.

"Psshh!" Blood sprayed out. The man screamed and collapsed.

Without hesitation, Zhang Yang yanked out the blade, took a step forward, and stabbed it into the bald man's chest.

The bald man, his face already a bloody mess, convulsed once before collapsing completely, blood gushing like a fountain.

The one who went to fetch tools, along with two more killers rushing from the other side, froze. Seeing Zhang Yang covered in blood, and their boss and second-in-command twitching on the ground, they roared together and charged.

One of them pulled out a gun and aimed at Zhang Yang.

Zhang Yang caught sight of it, his whole body jolting. His adrenaline spiked. He couldn't let them fire—if they hit, both he and Xu Danlu were dead.

The moment the man raised the gun, Zhang Yang lunged midair, crashing into him. They rolled on the ground, grappling.

Meanwhile, the other two didn't reach in time—Xu Danlu had climbed out of the car and, out of nowhere, found the courage to fight them both, keeping them busy.

Zhang Yang's fighting style was all about killing. Seeing Lulu facing two opponents, he panicked and went all in. He locked his legs around the man's waist, curled like a shrimp, and grabbed his jaw, twisting it backward with all his strength.

Harder, harder—until he heard the man's throat crack.

He released him, but at that instant his back was struck hard—the guy who'd gone for tools had abandoned Lulu and was now swinging a big wrench at him.

Zhang Yang roared, turned, and smashed an uppercut into the man's chin. The man flew backward. Zhang Yang was about to finish him off—

When Lulu suddenly shouted, "Watch out!" One of the remaining attackers, beaten down by her, had picked up a gun.

He aimed and fired. The shot rang out, and at that exact moment, someone leapt in front of Zhang Yang—a faint fragrance hit him. It was Xu Danlu.

The killer hesitated, stunned by what he'd done.

Zhang Yang exploded in fury, pushing Lulu aside and grabbing the wrench to hurl it at the man.

The man panicked, fired again—but missed.

He didn't get a third chance. Zhang Yang tackled him, both crashing to the ground. Zhang Yang rose first, punching the man square in the throat. A gurgle escaped; the man's eyes bulged wide—his windpipe shattered.

But Zhang Yang wasn't satisfied. He picked up the fallen gun and fired three, four shots into the man's face, blowing his head apart.

He turned to see the wrench guy crawling backward, dragging a leg, terrified. Five of them—and this was how it ended… what kind of monster was this man?

Zhang Yang strode over, glaring, breathing heavily, pointing the gun at his chest. "Who sent you? I'll warn you—I've got no patience."

The man coughed blood, clutching his chest. "If we sold out our employers, we wouldn't be in this business, would we?"

"Trying to act tough?" Zhang Yang raised the gun. The man froze, expecting more words, but Zhang Yang didn't hesitate—he emptied the rest of the magazine into him. "Die!"

Then he tossed the gun aside and rushed to Xu Danlu. If she hadn't been hurt, he might've kept questioning—but that bastard had pushed it too far.

Thankfully, she'd been shot in the shoulder blade and slashed on the arm. Her chest was soaked in blood, lips pale as paper. Zhang Yang couldn't think of anything else—he grabbed her and ran.

This girl had risked her life for him. Tears burst from Zhang Yang's eyes.

Why the hell didn't I take Chen Tianxiong's warning seriously?

The system's voice chimed in:[Star Mender No. 32, Xu Danlu, loyalty has reached 91 points. Capture Star Mender Mission successful. System rewards 30 points. Current total: 67. You may choose one of the following rewards: 1. Advanced Driving Technique. 2. Advanced Shooting Technique. 3. System Assistant.]

At this critical moment, Xu Danlu's loyalty had reached ninety points. So this was what they meant by true devotion in adversity.

She'd given everything for him when he needed her most.

But if these points and rewards could buy her safety, he'd give them all up.

The rewards list included a System Assistant, but Zhang Yang had no idea what that was. What mattered now was getting Lulu to a hospital. Without thinking, he chose Advanced Driving Technique.

He sprinted to the nearest Volkswagen Beetle. Its female owner had been watching the chaos nearby. Zhang Yang said nothing, lifted bloody Lulu into the passenger seat. The woman shrieked, "Don't mess up my car!"

Zhang Yang ignored her, shoved her aside, jumped in, floored the gas, and sped off, blowing past a red light toward Zhongshan Hospital. The system deducted one point for violent car theft.

Whatever, let it deduct.

"Jing-jie, my friend's been shot—shoulder or chest! Get emergency staff ready!"

"Qiao-jie, I need a favor—get Bai Liangfeng out of detention within twenty hours!"

"Brother Xiong, I was attacked—killers are all dead, at Mayuan intersection. I need you to find out who hired them by tonight. Also, once Bai Liangfeng's out—today or tomorrow—grab him. I'll deal with him myself. And keep eyes on Bai Wensheng. Don't let him run."

"Qi-jie, Lulu's hurt. We're heading to Zhongshan Hospital. Bring my computer too!"

Zhang Yang made call after call. By the time the Beetle, flying at nearly a hundred kilometers an hour, skidded to a stop at Zhongshan Hospital, it was all done.

There, Yang Jing and the ER doctors were already waiting.

On the stretcher, Xu Danlu looked at Zhang Yang and forced a weak smile. "Don't worry, Yangzi, I'll be fine."

Zhang Yang nodded silently, face ashen, fists clenched tight. Blood from Lulu's wounds dripped from his hands, one drop after another on the spotless white floor.

Seeing his state, Yang Jing quickly pulled him along into the ER. "Get him checked too!"

Looking into her caring eyes, Zhang Yang finally said, "I'm fine."

He'd just been hit on the back, his forehead grazed, and slammed by the airbag. After fighting nonstop, his body was drained.

Watching Lulu being rushed into surgery, he sat down on the hospital bench, eyes filled with murderous rage.

Moments later, Chen Tianxiong called. "The doctor's been to the scene. Those five really were assassins—from an organization called 'Black Spade Eight.' We don't know who hired them yet, but getting them to move costs a fortune. Only the Bai family could afford it."

"Got it. Keep eyes on every Bai family member. Don't let a single one slip away."
