Savanna Moger couldn't wait until tomorrow morning; going home meant taking a four-hour bus ride. Even if she took the earliest bus, she wouldn't arrive until noon. If she wanted to wait outside the operating room for her dad, she could only take the last afternoon bus.
The last bus left at six in the afternoon. She got off work at six. If she could leave an hour early, she would still make it.
She hung up the phone and went to find Turstin Muller to ask for leave.
"Mr. Muller, can I leave an hour early this afternoon?"
"No!" Turstin didn't even ask why and rejected her outright: "You're my secretary. I'm not leaving early, what reason do you have to leave early?"
Turstin's brows furrowed tightly. Hadn't the manager of the Western restaurant said that Savanna had played the piano there for three years without ever being late or leaving early? How come she'd barely been his secretary for a week and was already asking to leave early—what sense did that make?
