Chapter 14 - A Cursed Savior

Valerian's broken form lay on the forest floor, the world around him a cacophony of agony and despair. In the midst of his pain, an unexpected message appeared in his mind, a voice like silk and ice, resonating with a force that shattered his perception of reality.

"Pathetic," the voice echoed, its sultry tones cutting through the chaos of his pain. His consciousness trembled as the voice continued, each word striking him like a lash. "Do you think that I gave you my blessing just so you can GO AND DIE?!"

Valerian's thoughts raced, his mind struggling to comprehend the voice's words. The voice grew colder, its words laced with disdain. "You, pathetic mortal, are not allowed to die WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!"

The force of the voice was like an avalanche, his very being quaking under its weight. Blackness crept at the edges of his vision as his consciousness faded, but the voice was unrelenting. "Pitiful child, trying to run before you can even walk. I hope you learn a lesson from this failure and do not disappoint me further."

The voice softened, speaking gently to his unconscious form. Time seemed to hold its breath, and then, with a resounding scream from the voice, everything plunged into darkness.

The goblins, their mockery turning to confusion, watched as the forest clearing transformed before their eyes. Water rose from the ground, a swamp enveloping the once-dry land. Their uncertainty mounted, and they shared bewildered glances as they grappled with this impossible shift.

From the water's depths emerged a monstrous creature, a chimera born of nightmares: a crocodile's head, a lion's forequarters, and a hippopotamus's hindquarters. It surged forward with terrifying speed, rending the goblins' fragile bodies asunder. They were utterly defenseless against this monstrous force.

As the creature finished its gruesome work, it turned its attention to Valerian's broken form. With a mesmerizing transformation, the monster shifted into a stunning woman, radiating otherworldly beauty. Her golden skin, long black hair, and intricate jewelry seemed to shimmer with a power beyond comprehension.

She lifted Valerian's shattered body with a tenderness that belied her previous ferocity. The ground she tread upon with each step turned into a trail of dead grass, a testament to her overwhelming presence. She carried him back through the forest, her footprints of death marking her path.

In the cave, she gently laid Valerian down, her lips brushing against his forehead in a tender kiss. A haunting silence hung in the air as she turned away, leaving as mysteriously as she arrived. The bear, wide-eyed with terror, as if a lamb had seen a tiger, could only watch as the woman departed without a single glance in its direction.

In the wake of her departure, the only evidence of her presence remained in the trail of lifeless grass. Valerian remained unconscious throughout the entire enigmatic encounter, his fate forever altered by the touch of a being that seemed to wield both salvation and damnation in equal measure.
