Chapter 1 - The Beginning

Julian wakes up in his bed. He is in his small house, and as looks out the window he sees his small garden. He goes through the door and picks some tomatoes. Around him is a small village on the side of a cliff. At the bottom of the cliff is a river, and on the other side of the river are mountains. Everyday when Julian wakes up he sees a small opening on the side of the mountain. He questions it, but everyone else seems to not care about it.

"Today's the day." Julian says, as he walks around the village while eating one of his tomatoes.

Julian reaches the edge of the cliff and walks down the wooden path made by the people of the village years ago.

As usual, there is trading occurring at the river. The village is very reliant on trade because it's the only thing that keeps their economy going. Ships go in and out of the village everyday.

Julian reaches the harbor and walks around. There are shops and restaurants built into the cliff. He goes up to one of the shops and asks, "I'll trade you three tomatoes for one chicken leg."

The man in the shop agrees and gives him the chicken. Julian walks back up the wooden path while eating. When he made it all the way up, he headed straight for the bridge. This bridge is what keeps their village and the mountain connected.

Once he reaches the other side of the bridge and finishes eating his chicken leg, he decides to climb the mountain. In only worn out robes, gloves, and boots he tries to climb the mountain. Each movement hurts his body as he pulls using most of his upper body strength, but he knows it will be worth the pain. Every time Julian asked about the opening in the mountain, people would say, "If you want to see it, then go, but remember... curiosity kills the cat." Julian disregards their warnings and decides to keep climbing even if he dies.

After a few hours he is at the peak of the mountain. He looks down the mountain and sees the village, but the village doesn't see him. He looks around and finds the opening on the side of the mountain. Julian walks toward it and stops at the point where he's right above it.

He notices there is a small ledge outside of the opening and seems to actually be a building within the mountain.

On the ledge, there is a telescope and a door leading into the building. Julian slowly opens the door, and inside, he sees a circular room with a lantern in the middle and overgrown vines everywhere. One desk lays on the two back corners of the room while a bed rests in the middle. Interestingly enough, there lays one thick book on each of the two desks in the back corners of the room. He curiously walks towards the two desks. He decides to take a look at the right one first. All he finds are texts that are in a different language. But on the other desk to his left lays a journal that he can read.

He reads through a couple of pages. 4/9 - "I have done many studies of many things over the past couple of years, but there is one thing I haven't figured out yet, why?"

Julian flips to a different page. 10/27 - "I think I know now. It's the work of God. He gave me strength, he gave me knowledge. I will use these to there fullest extent, like how God intends."

"Weird, so someone has been living here for a long time," Julian says to himself, "But how were they able to put all this stuff here?"

Julian puts the journal in his worn satchel. He looks around the room again and sees human sized wings with over a thousand feathers on it. He goes up to it and puts it on like a backpack. He sees a rope on both sides of his shoulders and ties it together like a shoe lace.

After that he sees that a battle axe was next to it. In graved to the axe's handle says, "The Axe of God." Julian picks it up and gives it a small swing a giant gust of wind flows everywhere shaking the vines. Julian can feel the weight and force of the axe and decides to carry it with him. Then on the other side of the room he sees a trident.

He picks it up and throws it against the wall. Suddenly it came back to him. Even though it was coming back at such high speed Julian caught it. Finally, the last thing left was a small telescope, even smaller than the one on the ledge. He looks through it and sees the lenses zooming in at what he's looking at. He puts it in side his satchel.

Julian says, "I guess I should test the wings, I'll only use them on a small ledge to see if they actually work."

He jumps out of the room heading straight towards the village. Expecting it to fail he puts his arms in front of his face. But he glides gently against the wind. He loosens his body gently but at that moment the axe slips from his hands with a heavy force and fall directly into the water. There was no splash or impact. It just when directly through.

Julian lands directly next to the village. The time is midnight, and nobody sees him. The exhaustion from climbing the mountain made him tread slowly to his house. Once he gets in, he drops everything to the ground and goes to sleep.
