Hyun-Woo PoV
I frowned as I stared at Ailia. She was in bed, sweat pouring down her face. It looked like she had a fever. So much for her being only tired.
The room felt too quiet. The soft glow of a single lantern flickered on the small table beside her bed, casting long shadows across the wooden walls of the temporary shelter we had set up near the border. I stood in the doorway for what felt like forever, arms crossed tightly over my chest, trying to convince myself I was only here because Mother had asked me to check on her.
She looked smaller than usual, pale and shivering under the thin blanket. Her golden hair was damp and stuck to her forehead, and every few seconds her brow would furrow like she was fighting something in her sleep. Fortuna had pushed her body too far.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair as I finally stepped inside and closed the door behind me. The latch clicked softly, and I immediately regretted how loud it sounded in the stillness.
