In Yalin City, located in the eastern region of the Siacan Kingdom, within the City Lord's Mansion.
Greena sat in the seat of honor with a very gloomy expression, looking at the people below.
"News from the capital says the First Prince is already consolidating his knights and reallocating supplies. It seems he's preparing for war," The Red Overseer said with a grave face.
"Is the information accurate?" Greena asked darkly. He had originally thought Lucia would take some time before attacking. He didn't expect him to lose his patience so quickly.
It must be noted that the capital had just barely calmed down. Instead of pacifying the major nobles, Lucia was preemptively marching an army out to crusade against him. Was he not afraid of the nobles rebelling?
"It's even faster than I estimated. Originally, I thought it would be at least a month before he made a move. I didn't expect him to be unable to hold back this soon." The Red Overseer was also quite troubled by this development.
Given the Second Prince's current situation, their chances of winning were incredibly slim. They lacked weapons, they lacked warhorses, and their number of knights was nowhere near that of the First Prince. If war broke out now, their odds of victory were truly poor.
"That old bastard Benson, what did he say before? He actually compromised?" Greena couldn't sit still anymore. He stood up and paced around the room, an anxious look on his face.
"Yes, Grand Knight Benson compromised," The Red Overseer said deeply. It was precisely this duke's compromise that caused the First Prince's power to skyrocket, directly more than doubling his knight count.
"Damn that old geezer, why couldn't he just hold out for one more month?" Greena said angrily. He never expected Grand Knight Benson to cower so quickly.
"Saying all this now won't help anything. Better to think about what we should do next," The Red Overseer said coldly. Looking at the irritable Second Prince before her, she suddenly wondered if the organization's choice to support him had been the right one.
However, to control the entire Siacan Kingdom and clear all obstacles for the organization, this was currently their only opportunity—to prop up the Second Prince onto the throne.
"What else can we do? Those pirates are still roaming out there. Didn't they already agree? It's been days, why haven't they sent anyone yet?" Greena felt like doomsday was approaching.
"About that... I sent someone to urge them earlier, and they said they were on their way," The Red Overseer frowned. She was starting to doubt the pirates' reliability as well.
"Also, are the beastkin willing to sell us their warhorses?" Greena quickly asked.
"..." The Red Overseer looked at the expectant look on Greena's face, debating whether to tell him. It was going to be a severe blow.
"Tell me, now!" Greena barked, his temper flaring aggressively.
"They rejected our request for cooperation," The Red Overseer sighed.
"Rejected?" Greena's face instantly twisted into an even uglier expression, veins popping on his forehead.
"Yes, rejected." The Red Overseer nodded emotionlessly.
"Those damn beastkin, how dare they reject us?!" Greena roared.
"..." The Red Overseer fell silent.
"Dammit, dammit..."
Bang!
Greena violently flipped the table over. He was short on men, short on warhorses, and now he had neither. He felt utterly betrayed.
Bang, smash!
A few minutes of venting ensued.
Pant, pant, pant...
Greena sat on the floor, gritting his teeth. "Are the beastkin complaining that there aren't enough weapons?"
"Probably. We can only offer so many weapons, providing any more is impossible," The Red Overseer replied, narrowing her eyes.
"Those beastkin are nothing but a bunch of insatiably greedy bastards! If I ever get the chance, I swear I'll turn them all into slaves," Greena growled in a low voice.
He was in an incredibly foul mood. If he gave the beastkin more weapons, he wouldn't have enough for his own forces. It was an unsolvable dilemma.
"We must acquire warhorses. Otherwise, even with men, we won't have any way to resist the First Prince's assault," The Red Overseer said sternly.
"You say that so lightly. Aside from the beastkin, where else are we supposed to get warhorses?" Greena said hoarsely.
"..." The Red Overseer was stumped. Warhorses weren't something you could just conjure out of thin air. Right now, the fastest method was to either rob them or buy them from Sahara.
But robbing them was obviously going to be difficult. The opposition consisted of beastkin who already possessed warhorses and weapons. Especially during this sensitive time, the First Prince would love nothing more than for them to start a fight with the beastkin.
"Is there really no other way?" Greena looked at the Red Overseer's shifting expressions, and a miserable, bitter smile crept onto his face.
Clop, clop, clop…
"Your Highness! Urgent report!" A knight's voice rang out from outside the door.
"Come in," Greena called out casually.
Creaaak... The knight quickly pushed the door open and entered with his head bowed.
"What is it?" Greena stared at the knight with bloodshot eyes.
"There is a large group of people outside the city, claiming they are here answering Your Highness's summons," The knight reported, kneeling on one knee.
"A large group of people? Answering my summons? Could it be the pirates?" Greena suddenly sat up straight, a look of joy washing over his face as he looked at the Red Overseer.
"It should be them," The Red Overseer's tense face finally relaxed.
"Hahahaha... Excellent," Greena laughed happily. This good news chased away half the gloom in his heart.
"I will go make the arrangements," The Red Overseer stood up.
"Go, go. I need people who will obey orders," Greena said, his voice still hoarse.
"..." The Red Overseer looked at Greena's red, bloodshot eyes and quickly nodded. "Yes."
Tap, tap, tap...
The Red Overseer left the mansion, staring blankly at the sun in the sky, muttering to herself, "I wonder if this will actually succeed."
She was losing confidence by the minute. She truly wondered if Second Prince Greena had the destiny to sit on that throne.
If these pirates still couldn't hold off the First Prince, then the organization might really have to consider abandoning Greena and adopting another method.
After all, Greena's head was also quite valuable.
