Chapter 602 - Chapter 602: Broken Bond

As Harvard was left to his whims, Eustace gave chase to the light. His eyes darted at every angle, his shadows quickly letting him cut the distance, blade stowed and kept away from the public eye to ensure they don't see him coming ahead. When it came to certain guards who stood watch, he'd incapacitate them with chops at their neck, knocking them unconscious, leaving them in a random chamber for a Monster to take their revenge and cause a scene, giving him an opening to find that light. The halls and stairways winded further and further down, as the sealed chambers that housed the 'Sun' loomed in the background, ready to be sent out and taken to the kingdom for more energy absorption. Finally, once they reached the bottom floor, he'd find the light again, crackling in lightning, with only eyes present across its rough body frame

His son.

They were silent upon meeting, with Eustace struggling to piece together and say such words. The light was quick to force him to speak. "Why are you back here...? I don't want to see you again." He'd demand, his voice low to prevent the both from being caught.

"What...? What are you-" Eustace's response was snuffed out as his Son barked back.

"I just told you that I don't want to see you again! You'll just get everyone killed again!"

"N-no! Absolutely not! Listen, We have a CHANCE-"

"I don't care about chance! I care about peace! I care about sleep, about wanting my family back. I care about ENDING IT!" The Light flared brightly, parting some of the shadows in Eustace's body, letting him see such struggle. The walls were given such depictions, a father desperate to make ends meet, before a figure approached him, one that gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. "You tried to make our family 'better' by working with him. You thought he had a way to save us!"

"At the time, yes! I didn't knew that he'd-"

"You couldn't tell by his voice? By his eyes? He was bad! He was really, really bad! You were just blinded by wanting to play 'hero' for everyone!" The shadow puppetry continued as it pans to a man and a woman, an argument regarding their situation, as the setting forged around to be an old house, broken down in walls and rooftops, thunder and rain pouring through the cracks and holes. The son tried to intervene, seeing the tension rise, but the man was quick to snap back. A slap across the son's face, shocking everyone. Instead of apologizing, he'd knelt down and murmured something, before running away, most likely to face the King alone. "You told me 'to be the man of the house' when you were gone. You were blinded so much, you never noticed us. You never noticed ME!"

The father looked down, unable to properly see the son eye to eye, the lighting now too bright for his yellowed eyes. "I know... and I'm sorry. I should've been there, absolutely. B-but I can redeem myself! I can offer myself to everyone as penance. I can ensure you can live a better life-"

"A BETTER LIFE!? THEY KILLED ME!!"

Such yells were accompanied by the last scene for the shadows, as after time passed, Wyvios' men came down and attacked the woman, drakes swarming in and burning her body down, preventing her from casting magic by a few hounds holding her back. When the Son ran away and the father came back, now a mere mass of black, he gave chase, as he watched his Son back away in a nearby cliffside, only to be shot through. The darkness parted too easily, no damage left by the soon to be Knight, as the Son was struck down, unable to move, as he was taken away by the drakes to Kabanaska, the father grieving and screaming as a result before he too was snatched off. Eustace had no words, his shame holding him by his throat.

His son was right. He was a coward, a fool who believed in a false future, and he lost everything at that very moment he took such beliefs.

"And what, you have more people in your death trap? You're sending more people on this suicide course of yours?! You're not a hero! Stop acting like one. Please. You've lost already, let it go." The son beckoned, hoping such would give him sense, to let him see his efforts will be wasted regardless. Before Eustace would try to offer a rebuttal, however...

BANG!!!

Shot through once more, as the electrical body would go violent, scattering halfway, stunted by the rubber shot, acting like a silver bullet as it reeled back and made the light dim. Eustace's eyes widened, nearly taking his sword and going on a rampage, before being tackled by the Guards who heard the noise. "WE GOT ONE!! CALL IN BACK-UP! THIS ONE CAN HIDE IN SHADOWS!!" One of the guards shouted as light was casted down on all sides, a simple counter to the Knight of Shadows, as he gets dragged away by his son, struggling and wailing for him to come back, to be alive.

"GET OFF ME!! GET OFF ME!!! GET YOUR GRIMY HANDS OFF OF MY ARMOR!! I NEED TO SEE HIM, PLEASE!! I NEED TO SEE HIM!!!!" He begged, yet no answers were made, as reinforcements came to take him to another chamber.

As Eustace was gone, the others that were around the light were quick on signaling in a call to the scientists. "Yo. Target is neutralized. Tesla is taken care of, returning him back to his quarters immediately, room 38. Set up an elevator for us when you can-" The words were cut off as another sound was being made, one faint, but audible once the quiet came in. It was far, far up above, steps across each and every corner. Eustace was holding true to his word in having allies attempting to snuff out the Sun's light. "Scratch that... we got some stowaways here. Permission to neutralize the targets?" He'd ask, with a simple, calm answer returning back by the scientists.

"Permission granted. Bring their bodies over when you're done."
