Chapter 6 - Chimchar is Born + Daily Life Shenanigans.

(Third Person POV)

Now, there's a few things that need to be made clear before we continue about this whole debacle about Combees and the Sunfloras thingy.

ALL Pokemon are Oviparous, meaning that they lay eggs, as obvious as that is. Anyway, the trick is here, each egg has a different gestation period, meaning that some will take a few days to hatch while others can take a whole year to hatch, reason as to why it took THREE FRICKING MONTHS FOR CHIMCHAR TO BE BORN!!!

Additionally, there's a lot of +18 stuff they don't tell you in school, long story short they all have "those parts" inside like a Kangaroo pouch, non-visible till you look for it, just don't think much about it.

Worst month for Kaori during his research.

Anyway, back to eggs, eggs have a lot of different ways to be nurtured, you can leave them in the incubator like a lazy-ass and they'll hatch just as nicely, however, the thing no one knows is that depending how it was raised, allows the egg to learn moves before hatching, not to be confused with Egg Moves that are genetic from its parents.

I know there was an episode about a Jigglypuff and a hatched Marril that learned Sing, but the process here was a tad different. Kaori did various things from spending time with the egg near the fireplace, watch different training videos from Bruno, Fighting-Type Elite Four, and some of Chuck, Fighting-Type Gym Leader from Johto, for several hours.

Is there any way to confirm all that was actually worthwhile? Nope. But Kaori wasn't about the results, it was all about the experience…also because it was kinda fun to do all that.

Now, back to the story.

Kaori and the quartet of soon-to-be-trainers rushed inside the lab and saw Chimchar's egg glowing in an orange light.

"Wow…" Ash said in amazement as he saw the egg glowing.

"This is the miracle of life fellas…the miracle of life." Kaori.

"All vitals are stable; he should be hatching in a few minutes." Oak.

"Like five…ten minutes or…" Blue was cut off.

*CRACK* Chimchar's egg started to crack.

"Or right now!" Red chimed in with excitement.

*CROOK*

The egg wobbled to the left.

*CROK*

The egg wobbled to the right.

*CRRRRK*

The egg started wobbling all around.

*CRAAACK*

The egg broke and from within emerged a small orange colored monkey with his butt on fire.

"Chimchar~" Chimchar yawned as he scratched his head.

"Woah! I've never seen that Pokemon before!" Ash looked at Chimchar with stars in his eyes.

"Char?" Chimchar looked around and locked in at Kaori.

"Chimchar!" The Monkey lunged at Kaori, who caught him and carried him in his shoulders.

"Woah! Careful little fella." Kaori greeted his starter with care.

"Fascinating, it seems that he's taken a liking to you." Oak commented.

"What's that Pokemon? You never told us because it was "a surprise", your words not mine." Gary remarked in sarcasm.

"He's Chimchar, The Ember Chimp Pokemon, Fire-Type and native to the Sinnoh Region." Kaori.

"But you got this in your Region, Star was it?" Blue.

"Star is the only region in which all species coexists, which is why it isn't rare to find Pokemon like Chimchar, although they're still a rarity." Kaori confirmed.

"Aww man, I really want to see him in battle!" Red exclaimed already fired up for a battle.

"Me too! I want to catch one when I go to Sinnoh, or Star." Ash commented.

"Now, now, Chimchar's been born and he looks healthy, however, let me perform some prior exams to ensure that there's nothing wrong with him, ok?" Oak intervened.

"Alright Professor." The squad agreed as Kaori kept entertaining Chimchar.

'So, this is what it feels like, having a life in your hands and care for it.' Kaori thought as he saw Chimchar's smile.

The tests were all very standard procedures like vaccines, performance tests, favorite foods and one final test that Oak didn't tell Kaori...…because they'll see it right now.

"Ok, for the next test I'll only need Kaori and Chimchar so, I'll need you all to leave the lab for a moment." Oak announced to the squad.

"Oh, come on gramps, can't you at least tell us what it is?" Gary.

"Sorry, no can do." Oak denied as he gently nudged everyone to leave the lab.

"Why make them leave? It's not like this is life or death." Kaori wondered.

"You'll see." That's all Oak said before he went to the center of his lab.

In the machine where he safekeeps the Starter's Pokeballs, for dramatic effect when there's trainers to be given, he opened a small compartment and entered a code. The base shifted from the three Pokeball slots to that of a single space remaining, inside that space is a Pokedex.

"Whoa…cool Pokedex Professor." Kaori.

"Oh, it's more than just that Kaori. You see, this Pokedex is the prototype made thanks to your notes and ingenuity, in just three months you've skyrocketed this invention of mine to new levels." Oak announced.

'Was it really that much? I just went and used the second blueprints of the Sinnoh Pokedex.' Kaori thought to himself.

Sure, he mostly studied Pokemon and his technological studies are less than average, but Kaori's impeccable memory made it easy to remember the details about the tidbits of information he got in between reads.

"Hehe…you praise me too much Prof." Kaori said embarrassed.

"Not at all, with a simple scan, the Pokedex can accurately give information about Pokemon moves, abilities and nature." Oak announced.

Kaori was mildly shocked about this; it wasn't all the surprising but the fact that it only took 3 months for them to manufacture this. It's not like this is easy to do, and just three months for a functional Prototype. Hats off to whoever engineered this.

"Want to test it?" Oak asked.

"C-can I? It will be an honor." Kaori took the Pokedex.

He aimed at Chimchar and pressed the button with the word SCAN on it.

*BBZZZZZBBB* A blue light came from the Pokedex as it scanned Chimchar, who looked confused about it but didn't care much about it.

[Analysis completed!]

[Chimchar]

[Gender: Male]

[Type: Fire]

[Nature: Hardy]

[Ability: Blaze]

[Moves: Fake Out, Scratch, Leer, Blaze Kick, Ember, Taunt, Fury Swipes, Thunder Punch, Power-Up Punch]

Oak and Kaori were surprised about the variety of moves Chimchar was born with.

"How? I mean I'm not complaining but, how?!" Kaori wondered with a smile on his face.

"I have to admit; this is beyond unexpected." Oak tried to remain as professional as possible.

"Look at this little buddy, your pops and mom must've been extremely strong." Kaori carries Chimchar, making him laugh.

"Hardy nature…meaning that he doesn't exactly excel in anything in specific." Oak commented.

"Yeah, that's true, but that's not bad, at least he also won't be weak in one of his specs." Kaori commented.

Three months is a lot of time, and Kaori sure did get busy, from Natures to Egg Moves, Kaori gave Prof Oak so much information that it alone could've made Kaori a professor on the move.

He, however, rejected the offer and wanted to become one through the effort of this internship, dumb yeah, but he wants to enjoy his life first, everything else is practically second.

He even taught the kids in Pallet Town a few lessons about out of region Pokemon, Ash almost never pays attention and Red pays attention 5 out of 10 classes.

Weird calling Ash and his group "kids" when he's just a year or two older than them, oh well, win some lose some.

Oak looked at Kaori, who's carrying Chimchar on his shoulders again. "With Chimchar born, what are you planning on doing?" Oak rhetorically asked, he knew what Kaori was going to do.

"Something I've been dreaming about for years." Kaori said as he took a Pokeball from his pocket.

But it wasn't a typical Pokeball, it was. Cherish Ball. It was the birthday present that Oak gave him for when Chimchar hatched.

Cherish Balls are just normal Pokeballs with better aesthetic, they're a tad pricy, 5K poke-dollars per unit, and they don't even have any special functionality like the others, however, it is often used as a medium to pass Pokémon you once owned to cherished people and final gifts before death.

Kaori held the Cherish Ball in front of Chimchar and smiled.

"Chimchar, do you want to come with me and have an Insane Adventure?" Kaori asked.

"Chimchar!" Chimchar didn't hesitate.

He tapped the Cherish Ball, and a crimson energy surrounded his body before sucking him inside.

*WOBBLE* *WOBBLE* *WOBBLE*

*TING*

Chimchar was caught.

Kaori looked extremely happy, so much that he could barely contain himself but his smiled distorted a little, he grabbed the Cherish Ball and let out a cheer.

"I caught my first Pokémon!!!!" Kaori cheered.

Prof Oak applauded the young trainer as he recalled how he felt when he received his first Pokémon. His thoughts then shifted to a person he met in his younger days, but he can't remember exactly who he was.

'Hm…why is it that I can't remember that trainer's face? All I can remember was that Infernape of his.' Oak thought in confusion.

He brushed off those thoughts as mere signs of his age catching up to him before he focused back on Kaori.

"Chimchar, I choose you!" Kaori chanted as he threw the Pokeball upwards to release Chimchar.

In a blue hue of light, Chimchar emerged once again, looking chipper than before.

"Char!" Chimchar laughed as he saw Kaori again.

"I can see great things coming for you two." Oak commented as Kaori started to play with his new partner.

It was quite the eventful day for Kaori, his first Pokémon finally hatched and now he can start his new adventure...…in three months alongside the others.

(A week later)

It's been just a week since Chimchar was born, and Kaori has been taking care of him like a papa hawk.

But Chimchar is an active Pokémon, so it wasn't long before Kaori downed a notch the caring. On the other hand, everyone begged Kaori, mostly Ash and Red, to fight using Chimchar, something Kaori denied every time due to him wanting to have their first battle as official trainers.

When asked about which Pokémon Kaori would like to catch, he never had a clear answer, he loves every Pokémon, he can't just decide which one to add to his Kanto Team.

So, for the moment, Kaori will just go with the flow without worries.

Right now, Kaori's inspecting a Rhyhorn for his medical checkup.

"Horn's too dry…it hasn't been eating well this past month. Perhaps the trainer doesn't know its preferences and just thinks of it as picky. His paws don't present cracks, meaning that it exercises constantly. The eyes are a bit dilated, perhaps it has insomnia or night terrors? I better set up a camera tonight. Teeth need dusting around the edges, I'll use the sandblaster for that." Kaori got up and gave a treat to Rhyhorn and went to look for the tool.

Most Rock and Ground-Types have don't have a flesh and blood body like most Pokemon, so their circulatory system and overall body functionality has always been a bit bizarre.

Unlike humans and some Pokemon, Rhyhorn doesn't get any "toothaches" or at least in the normal way, their mouths are reinforced by a layer of sand and small pebbles that get stuck in between their teeth that act as a protective tarp over them when eating food.

The issue is that Rhyhorn only eats dirt and rocks on occasional mood swings, it's neither a dietary nor survival instinct, which is why this tends to be passed unnoticed. If unattended, it could lead to mouth infections and deterioration of the teeth.

'Lowest Potency, check. Sand loaded, check. Rhyhorn happy…check. Ok, time to finish this dentist appointment.' Kaori booted up the sandblaster and started spraying sand in the spaces between Rhyhorn's teeth.

After some more minutes of spraying, Kaori was done.

"There, good as new…that doesn't fit…back to 100%? Nah…I better come up with some good one-liners." Kaori.

He gave Rhyhorn a light tap, making the strong Pokemon to leave. Prof Oak arrived with a tray of Sandwiches and two mugs of Leppa Berry Tea.

"Thanks for another amazing day of work Kaori, I couldn't have done it without you." Oak compliments as he lays the tray in the table with the mugs before sitting in one of the nearby chairs.

"You jest Prof, this barely could be consider work, I'm having way too much fun with it." Kaori answered back before he cleared up the mess around the yard and sat in a chair with a sandwich.

"I'm not lying, nor kidding, but I'm glad you're enjoying your stay here." Oak.

"Never a dull moment Prof, and things will just keep getting better and better in the future." Kaori took a sip of his tea.

"Speaking of the future, what exactly are your plans? You always avoid the subject whenever someone presses you about it." Oak.

Kaori simply smiled before looking at the dawning Sun Setting.

"I'm already doing what I want, living in this world is already a gift." Kaori.
