Chapter 5 - The Second Item

Alina speed walked down the streets, trying to make it in time before the second item is lost forever.

The item she is targeting for is called The Brooch of Darkness. It allows the user to go completely invisible at a high cost and a high CD, totally undetected by any and all detection items and/or skills.

It is a major boon for anyone who is wielding that brooch as it is insanely overpowered for people that has high MP and are hunted down.

'Orion's Bow is OP, yes, but to be able to use it, I need to gain my MP somehow. My stats right now aren't as good as i wished for it to be, but at least it's higher than most of my age in the academy.'

Alina might have gained a body that has been trained with the arts of assassination and multiple martial arts but that doesn't mean she could use the skills. She would have to practice the skills herself before being in an actual fight.

That is why she wanted to take as many hidden items as she could before the storyline starts. And also because the difficulty of finding those items will be extremely high after the story starts.

[Host, please keep in mind that you must be at the main auditorium in [00:03:59:50] or the system will take away the host's life support systems.]

The cruel notification of reminder further deepened the pit of anxiousness in her heart as she started to sprint to her next location.

---

Alina peeked through the haybales as she crouched behind them, trying to catch a glimpse of a specific thief.

The bar across the street was busy and loud with the bards and the sound of drunken laughter filled the entire road. Yet, she was not at all interested at them.

Instead, she was looking for a boy. A young beggar who would be the villainess's most loyal servant. The Demon Lord's only son.

Thinking back to the game's plotline, the boy, called Kyn, was the orphaned son of the previous Demon Lord.

When the humans had killed his parents, they thought he was a boy that was kidnapped and brought him back to the human kingdom. But that was when he was just 4 years old.

Now, he is 12 years old, starving, and in constant suffering.

Not only did the people starve him for being on the streets, they also refused to let him anywhere near the city, causing him to suffer from hunger and cold every single night.

One day, he was getting beaten up by other older boys when suddenly he retaliated in a burst of anger and despair and a bright dark red light shone when he spilled his blood.

The light caused the boys the sprint off, calling for their parents that didn't believe a word they said.

But when the light disappeared, the bloodied brooch raised itself from his blood and his father's voice whispered in his ear.

"My son, if you are receiving this treasure of mine, it means that I have passed and have failed to protect you from those evil humans. I have imbued my power into this, and I pray that the gods protect you for many centuries to come."

As he heard his father's voice once more, the boy cried and clutched the brooch close to his heart.

Since then, has always used the brooch to fasten his makeshift cloak. The cloak that hides his identity whenever he steals food or money.

Alina sighed, seeing the boy sneak up to one of the patrons of the bar that held onto a loose pouch filled with coins.

'In the original plot, the boy get's caught and goes to prison for stealing and hoarding stolen items. He was held in the prison until the villainess coincidentially met him while meeting someone else in the same prison. She realized the Kyn had a purer bloodline that royal demons and recruited him to be her close aide. Kyn became her sword and shield, the second in command of her army.'

Seeing the free boy who is about to steal from the patron, she wonders how to take the brooch without revealing her identity all while letting the plot run it's course.

Just then, a group of merchants tied their horses right at the pole near the haybales she was hiding at. Alina quickly thought of an idea that she quickly realized, would be a hard mess.

"It wont hurt to just...borrow the horse for a kidnapping, right..?"

---

"Hyah Hyah!" Alina shouted, one hand on the leash while her other arm held onto the small boy. The horse quickly sped through the cobblestone streets as the woman rode the horse to a small, secluded part of town.

The edges of the cape and hood she stole fluttered against the wind as Alina rode the horse with an odd sense of habitual instinct.

It was as if she knew how to ride horses, or rather, the predecessor of her body did.

'As expected of the youngest daughter from a family full of assassins, her habits and instincts stayed with her body even when I'm the one inhabiting it.'

Alina thought with a tired smile as she got off the horse and whipped the horse's backside, causing it to sprint off while she and the boy in her arms hid behind some barrels.

The knights continued their chase towards the sound of the horse, following it's shadow as they passed by Alina and the boy.

After a few moments, she stood up and released the boy from her arms. Strangely enough, the boy seemed almost...grateful.

"Thank you...for saving me. I didn't know there were knights patrolling the area when I..."

Kyn spoke up with a shy voice as he lowered his head in thanks, clutching the pouch he stole.

Alina shook her head, catching her breath as she dusted her cloak. The cloth she tied around her neck was raised to cover half of her face so that she could hide her identity.

She glanced at the simple brooch the boy was using to fasten his cloak and reached out to touch it.

As if sensing danger, the boy backed up and tried to avoid her hand only to trip and fall onto the ground.

One moment he was going to stand back up and the next, his brooch was snatched away by the mysterious lady that saved him.

In an instant, the voices and whispers that has been haunting him in his head disappeared when the brooch was taken away.

It was as if the brooch was the cause of why his heart was clouded in evil and why his ears were filled with whispers demanding him to 'ascend the throne'

Feeling a well of gratitude for the lady that took the brooch, he stood up and looked around, only to see no lady in a dark green hood.

Instead, the officers that was making their way back saw him and immediately went to trap the boy in the alleyway.

Alina watched from another hiding spot a few buildings away as the knights apprehended the boy who was looking around in a frantic search.

The boy struggled against the knights before they ultimately knocked him unconscious and rushed back to the headquarters.

Alina clutched the brooch tightly, supressing the urge to give chase and save the boy. But she cannot interfere with the main plot. Being involved with the plot meant cirtain death to the likes of her.

She placed the brooch in her inventory and rushed to catch the next item.

Catching a glimpse of he timer in the corner of her eye, she grit her teeth and sprinted to the last item she could obtain before she is forced to head towards the academy.
