Chapter 17 - 17 Kizaru: Ice age

Admiral Kuzan stood on the railing of the massive Marine dreadnought, staring down at the turbulent, rolling waves of the East Blue. He let out a long, slow sigh, his breath materializing as a dense cloud of freezing mist that instantly dropped the temperature on the deck. He scratched the back of his curly hair, looking entirely like a man who had just been woken up from a pleasant nap and forced to do menial labor.

"Arara... you really are a massive pain, Garp-san," Aokiji muttered lazily, not even bothering to look back at the Hero of the Marines. "Fleet Admiral Sengoku sent me here to ensure the boy doesn't escape into the Grand Line. If you just plan on throwing punches for fun and catching up with your family, I suppose I'll have to do the heavy lifting."

Garp simply dropped down onto the wooden deck, crossing his thick arms. A massive, ear-to-ear grin stretched across his scarred face. "Bwahahaha! Be my guest, Kuzan! Let's see if your ice can cool down my grandson's temper! But don't come crying to me if he kicks your ass!"

Aokiji didn't respond. He didn't jump into the air with explosive, superhuman force like Luffy or Garp. Instead, he simply stepped forward, falling off the railing and plummeting toward the churning ocean below.

On the Flying Raijin, Nami gasped, rushing to the railing. "Is he crazy?! He's going to drown!"

"Watch closely," Luffy commanded, his voice dropping its playful tone, replaced by absolute, unshakeable seriousness.

Just before Aokiji's polished black shoes touched the crashing waves, he lazily extended his right hand, plunging his long fingers into the salty water.

"Ice Age."

The effect was instantaneous, cataclysmic, and utterly apocalyptic.

A blinding flash of absolute-zero temperature erupted from Aokiji's hand. With a terrifying, deafening groan that echoed for miles, the entire ocean stopped moving. It didn't just freeze the surface; the ice plunged deep into the dark depths, locking the crashing waves into solid, jagged glaciers in the blink of an eye. The freezing wave expanded outward at the speed of sound. In less than three seconds, the ocean was transformed into a ten-kilometer wasteland of thick, unyielding permafrost that stretched all the way to the horizon.

The massive Flying Raijin and the Marine battleship were instantly locked in place, the ice groaning tightly against their wooden hulls.

On the deck of the pirate ship, absolute, terrified silence reigned. The sudden drop in temperature caused their breath to fog in the air.

Usopp fell backward onto the wooden planks, his slingshot slipping from his trembling fingers. "H-He... he froze the ocean... The entire ocean! As far as the eye can see! W-What kind of monster is this?!"

Sanji's cigarette slipped from his lips, landing on the frosty deck. His visible eye was wide with profound shock. "A single man did this in less than a second? You've got to be kidding me. If that ice had touched the hull directly, our ship would have been crushed like a tin can."

Zoro stepped forward, his two dark eyes narrowed to perilous slits. His hand gripped the hilt of the Wado Ichimonji so tightly his knuckles turned a stark white. The sheer scale of the power displayed was entirely beyond anything he had ever comprehended. "So this is a Marine Admiral... This is the absolute pinnacle of the World Government."

"Arara," Aokiji's lazy voice drifted across the frozen wasteland. He was standing perfectly casually on the ice between the two ships, his hands tucked deeply into the pockets of his pristine white slacks. "I couldn't have you flying away on that fancy ship of yours, Monkey D. Luffy. You're causing quite a headache for the higher-ups."

Zoro and Sanji immediately stepped forward, their bodies tensing to jump down to the ice.

"Stand down," Luffy ordered sharply, extending a rubbery arm to block their path.

"Captain," Zoro grunted, his eyes fixed firmly on the towering Admiral. "We can't just let him trap us here. We have to fight."

"You can't fight him," Luffy said, looking back at his first mate and cook. "I told you about the Logia Devil Fruits. He is made of pure, absolute-zero ice. Your Armament Haki is only at level two. If you touch him right now, your limbs will suffer severe frostbite before your Haki can fully protect you. You aren't ready for an Admiral. I am."

Without waiting for a response, Luffy hopped over the railing, dropping gracefully the fifty feet down to the frozen ocean. His sandals tapped lightly against the solid ice as he stood twenty yards away from the towering Admiral or that's what he was aiming. But sadly, the ice was too slippery so he slip and fell face flat. Every eyes was locked on to him with a deadpan face. His crew was muttering the exact same word.

Zoro: Idiot

Nami: Idiot

Sanji: Idiot

Usopp: Idiot

(Selene: - 10000 aura)

Luffy stood tall, completely ignoring the fact that he had miserably failed his cool landing.

Aokiji looked down at the teenager, his lazy demeanor remaining entirely intact. "You have a good head on your shoulders, boy. Keeping your crew out of this was the smart choice. But you should have listened to your grandfather and put on a Marine uniform. Now, I have to take you in."

"I'm going to be the Pirate King," Luffy smiled, a fierce, challenging light in his dark eyes. "I don't look good in white anyway. Shishishishi!"

"Is that so?" Aokiji sighed, pulling his right hand out of his pocket.

Up on the deck of the Marine battleship, Garp was having the time of his life. He dragged a heavy wooden chair to the very edge of the bow, sat down, and pulled a massive bag of rice crackers from his coat. He kicked his feet up onto the railing, grinning from ear to ear as if he had just bought front-row tickets to the greatest movie ever made.

"Oi! You lot!" Garp yelled over his shoulder to the hundreds of bewildered Marine soldiers standing behind him. "What are you standing around for?! The Admiral has the captain handled! Your job is to capture the pirate crew! Get down there and show them what the Marines are made of!"

The Marine officers snapped out of their daze. A captain drew his cutlass and pointed it at the Flying Raijin. "Forward! Apprehend the Straw Hat Pirates! Do not let them escape!"

Hundreds of lower-ranked Marines, armed with rifles, swords, and bazookas, threw ropes over the side of the battleship and began sliding down to the ice. They roared a battle cry, charging across the frozen wasteland toward the pirate ship.

On the deck of the Flying Raijin, Zoro drew his three swords, a feral, bloodthirsty grin stretching across his face. "Looks like we get a proper warm-up after all."

Sanji lit a fresh cigarette, adjusting his suit jacket. "Try not to get in my way, Moss-head. I need to test out my new kicking power."

Usopp scrambled to his feet, pulling a specialized dial from his satchel and loading it into his slingshot. His knees were still shaking slightly, but his Observation Haki was flaring to life, mapping the exact positions of every single Marine charging toward them. "D-Don't underestimate the great Captain Usopp! I'll cover you guys from the deck!"

Nami gripped her Bo staff, her eyes sharp. Thanks to her relentless physical conditioning and her newly awakened sensory awareness, she wasn't the helpless girl she used to be. "Don't let a single one of them step foot on this ship!"

Zoro and Sanji leaped from the railing, plummeting down to the ice below to meet the Marine vanguard.

"Three-Sword Style..." Zoro muttered, landing heavily on the permafrost. He didn't even bother coating his blades in Armament Haki for standard soldiers. He simply spun like a violent tornado. "...Tornado!"

A massive, spiraling gale of razor-sharp wind erupted from his blades, catching dozens of Marines and launching them high into the air, their weapons shattering upon impact.

Right beside him, Sanji launched himself forward. A Marine aimed a bazooka at the cook, but before he could pull the trigger, Sanji vanished. He reappeared directly in front of the soldier, his leg blurring.

"Mouton Shot!"

Sanji's polished shoe buried itself into the Marine's chest, the sheer kinetic force sending the soldier rocketing backward, crashing into a dozen of his comrades like a bowling ball striking pins.

From the deck of the ship, Usopp pulled his slingshot back. His eyes were closed. He could 'see' three Marines flanking Zoro with rifles raised. "Exploding Star!"

Twang!

The small pellet sailed through the air in a perfect, impossible arc, landing squarely in the center of the three Marines before detonating in a massive cloud of fire and smoke.

The 70% growth they had experienced was on full display. The lower-ranked Marines weren't just outmatched; they were being systematically dismantled by a crew that moved with lethal, synchronized precision.

While the chaotic skirmish raged near the ship, the true battle was unfolding in the center of the frozen ocean.

Aokiji pulled a handful of grass from his coat and threw it into the air. He blew a breath of freezing mist over it. In mid-air, the fragile vegetation condensed and froze, transforming into a massive, jagged sword made of pure, diamond-hard ice.

"Ice Saber," Aokiji muttered, catching the hilt.

With a burst of speed that completely belied his lazy posture, Aokiji vanished. He reappeared directly in front of Luffy, swinging the massive ice sword downward with enough force to cleave a Sea King in two.

Luffy didn't dodge. He planted his feet firmly on the ice, his right fist instantly turning pitch-black as dense Armament Haki coated his skin.

CLANG!

Luffy's fist collided with the edge of the Ice Saber. The impact sounded like two massive anvils striking each other. A shockwave of displaced air blasted across the frozen ocean, knocking several fighting Marines off their feet.

Aokiji's eyes narrowed slightly. The sheer density of the boy's Armament was staggering. An intense, absolute-zero cold began to radiate from the blade, rapidly creeping down Luffy's black-coated arm.

"Your Haki is impressive, boy," Aokiji noted calmly, as thick frost began to form over Luffy's knuckles. "But cold penetrates everything eventually."

Luffy's grin widened. "Not if I shatter it first!"

Luffy forced his Haki to flow outward, pushing it beyond his skin and into the blade of the Ice Saber itself.

KRA-KOOOM!

The massive Ice Saber exploded from the inside out, shattering into a million harmless, glittering fragments. The sheer force of the projected Haki hit Aokiji in the chest, sending the towering Admiral sliding backward across the ice for several yards.

On the deck of the Marine battleship, a specialized communications officer was sweating profusely. He had a Visual Den Den Mushi set up on a tripod, the snail's eyes projecting the entire fight directly to the monitors at Marine Headquarters in Marineford.

"S-Sir!" the officer stammered into a secondary receiver. "The target just shattered Admiral Aokiji's weapon using advanced Armament projection! T-The Admiral is being pushed back!"

Garp, sitting just a few feet away, threw his head back and howled with laughter, tossing another rice cracker into his mouth. "BWAHAHAHA! Did you capture that?! Make sure Sengoku sees that perfectly! My grandson is a beast!"

Aokiji stood up straight, brushing a few shards of ice off his pristine white suit. He let out a long, slow breath of freezing mist. The lazy, exhausted look in his eyes was finally gone, replaced by the terrifying, cold calculation of the World Government's greatest military asset.

"Arara... Garp-san," Aokiji called out without looking back. "You conveniently left out the fact that your grandson has mastered the advanced applications of Color of Arms. This isn't a rookie. This is a monster."

Aokiji raised his right arm. The air temperature plummeted so drastically that the very moisture in the atmosphere instantly froze. A massive, incredibly dense sculpture of an ice pheasant erupted from his arm, its razor-sharp beak aimed directly at Luffy.

"Ice Block: Pheasant Beak!"

The massive ice bird launched forward, tearing up the glacier beneath it as it charged.

Luffy didn't flinch. He recognized the sheer mass and absolute zero temperature of the attack. Normal Haki projection wouldn't be enough to shatter something of that magnitude without his arm freezing in the process. He needed raw, catastrophic brute force.

"Alright," Luffy grinned, bringing his right arm up to his mouth. He bit down hard on his forearm, his teeth sinking into his rubbery flesh, and blew a massive, unnatural amount of air directly into his muscular structure.

His arm expanded to a massive size. But he didn't stop there. He channeled his Armament Haki, forcing it into his inflated muscles, compressing the air and rubber to its absolute limit.

"Gear Fourth..." Luffy announced, his voice echoing with a strange, metallic, reverberating distortion.

His entire body expanded, transforming into a massive, bouncing ball of muscle. Deep, pitch-black Armament Haki coated his arms, legs, and torso, forming jagged, tribal-like flame patterns. Thick white steam curled around his shoulders like a celestial scarf. Unable to stand still due to the intense, coiled tension in his rubber legs, Luffy continuously bounced up and down on the ice.

"...Bounceman!"

The lower-ranked Marines who were fighting Zoro and Sanji stopped dead in their tracks, their jaws dropping to the frozen ocean.

Zoro sliced through a Marine's rifle, pausing to stare at his captain. "What the hell is that form? He looks like a giant balloon."

Sanji kicked a Marine into the sky, pulling his cigarette from his mouth. "Why is he bouncing?! Is that supposed to be intimidating?!"

Usopp lowered his slingshot, his eyes bugging out of his skull. "H-He's huge! He looks like a demon god!"

Aokiji's eyes sharpened to pinpricks. The aura radiating from the bouncing boy was explosive.

The massive Ice Pheasant closed the distance, its beak inches away from completely freezing Luffy solid.

Luffy retracted his massive, Haki-coated fist into his own forearm, compressing the rubber like a loaded spring.

"Gum-Gum..." Luffy roared, his voice shaking the very clouds above them. "...KONG GUN!"

Luffy unleashed his fist.

The punch broke the sound barrier five times over. It slammed into the beak of the Ice Pheasant.

The resulting collision defied all logic. The absolute zero ice didn't just crack; it was completely, utterly pulverized into microscopic dust. The sheer, overwhelming kinetic force of the Kong Gun ripped through the entire structure of the massive bird, obliterating it instantly.

But the punch didn't stop there. The shockwave of displaced air continued forward, slamming into the frozen ocean.

KRRR-KKKKRRAAAAASH!

A massive, mile-long trench was violently carved into the permafrost, the ice shattering into massive boulders that were launched hundreds of feet into the air. The shockwave hit Aokiji, throwing the towering Admiral backward with incredible force. He crashed into a massive glacier jutting out of the ice, shattering it upon impact.

Dead silence fell over the entire battlefield. The Marines dropped their weapons in sheer, unadulterated terror.

The Visual Den Den Mushi on the Marine battleship captured the entire, apocalyptic display in perfect, high-definition clarity. The communications officer was hyperventilating, entirely unable to speak.

Garp, however, was having the absolute time of his life. He stood up from his chair, throwing his arms wide open, tears of joy streaming down his face.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHA!" Garp's laughter echoed across the shattered, frozen sea. "DID YOU SEE THAT, KUZAN?! THAT'S MONKEY D. LUFFY! THE MAN WHO IS GOING TO TURN THIS WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!"

Luffy bounced continuously on the ice, steam billowing from his shoulders, his dark eyes locked on the rubble where Aokiji had crashed. He knew the fight was far from over. An Admiral wouldn't stay down from a single punch.

But as the entire world watched through the eyes of a single snail, one thing became absolutely clear. The East Blue rookie was dead. A true king of the sea had arrived.
