Chapter 16 - 16 Luffy and Garp

The Flying Raijin cut through the sparkling blue waters of the East Blue with the speed and elegance of a shooting star. Leaving the Conomi Islands and the shattered remnants of Arlong Park far behind them, the majestic, futuristic galleon was now charting a direct, unwavering course toward the greatest geographical anomaly in the world: Reverse Mountain. The legendary gateway to the Grand Line.

On the pristine white deck, however, there was no time for relaxation or celebrating their recent, world-altering victories. The atmosphere had transformed into an absolute crucible of sweat, grunts, and grinding determination. Driven by the terrifying realities Luffy had shared with them about the apocalyptic monsters waiting in the New World, the Straw Hat Pirates were training with a manic, almost desperate intensity.

Near the bow of the ship, Zoro was performing one-handed handstand pushups. That alone would have been an impressive feat of athleticism, but the swordsman had also strapped a massive, solid iron boulder to his back. Sweat poured down his face, pooling on the wooden deck beneath him as his muscles trembled under the crushing weight. Both of his sharp, dark eyes were squeezed tightly shut in intense concentration.

Every few seconds, Zoro would grit his teeth and force his awakened spiritual energy into his supporting arm. A dark, metallic sheen of Armament Haki would spread across his skin, hardening his muscles to bear the immense load. Where previously he could only hold it for a few fleeting moments, the black coating now remained stable for nearly thirty seconds at a time before fading. The rapid growth was undeniable.

"Ninety-eight... ninety-nine... one hundred," Zoro grunted, his voice tight with exertion. He didn't collapse this time. He smoothly flipped backward, letting the iron boulder crash onto the reinforced deck tiles, and landed firmly on his feet, panting heavily.

On the upper deck, a continuous series of heavy, violent impacts rang out. Sanji was launching a blinding flurry of kicks against a reinforced steel pillar Luffy had erected from the ship's internal mechanisms. CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

The cook's legs blurred, his polished black shoes turning pitch-black with Haki upon impact. The steel pillar, which had previously only vibrated under his assault, was now sporting deep, fist-sized dents. Sanji's agility and raw power had spiked dramatically over the last few days of relentless, self-imposed torture.

"Tch. Still not enough," Sanji muttered, leaning against the railing and pulling a crushed cigarette from his pocket. He lit it with a steady hand, exhaling a thick plume of smoke. "If I want to kick a hole in a Marine battleship like the captain did, I need to focus the Haki to a single, localized point. Spreading it across the whole leg wastes too much spirit."

"Oi, curly-brows!" Zoro yelled from the lower deck, glaring up at the cook with his two piercing eyes. "If your legs are too weak to dent the steel properly, maybe you should stick to baking cakes! I'm trying to focus down here, and all I can hear is you tapping on that pillar like a woodpecker!"

Sanji blew a cloud of smoke over the railing, his visible eye narrowing into a deadly glare. "What did you say, you moss-headed freak?! I'm tempering my legs to shatter iron! If you want, I can come down there and test my kicks against your thick, empty skull!"

"Bring it on, Love-Cook!" Zoro challenged, grabbing the Wado Ichimonji and pulling himself into a combat stance. "I'll dice you into a side salad!"

"Both of you, shut your mouths!" Nami snapped, her voice echoing sharply from the roof of the control room.

Nami was sitting perfectly still in a lotus position, her eyes closed, projecting her newly awakened Observation Haki across the rolling waves. The weather patterns near Reverse Mountain were notoriously chaotic, and she needed her senses to be razor-sharp. "If you two idiots break my concentration one more time, I'm tripling your debt! I can already feel the humidity shifting three miles out. Now go back to training quietly before I throw you both overboard!"

That threat immediately silenced the two combatants. Sanji swooned silently, spinning on his heel in absolute, noodle-legged adoration of his terrifying navigator, while Zoro just grumbled a curse under his breath and picked up his iron boulder once again.

Meanwhile, Usopp was entirely absent from the deck, locked away inside the holographic sniper simulator. He was no longer just yelping in pain. The rapid twang of his slingshot was followed by continuous, rhythmic pings of simulated targets being shattered. His spatial awareness was blooming into something truly lethal.

Sitting comfortably on a plush lawn chair near the center mast, Luffy observed his crew with a wide, deeply satisfied grin. A plate stacked high with leftover roasted sea king meat rested on his lap. He took a massive bite, chewing happily as he watched them push past their human limits.

They're adapting so fast, Luffy thought to himself. Their baseline power is surging.

"Selene," Luffy commanded in his mind, swallowing his food. "Run a full diagnostic scan on the crew. Show me their current stabilized numbers."

[Acknowledged, Luffy. Factoring in their recent explosive growth and continuous limit-breaking over the past few days, their baseline parameters have increased by approximately 70%. Scanning crew members now...]

A sleek, translucent blue interface materialized in Luffy's field of vision, displaying the real-time statistics of his newly formed crew.

Name: Roronoa Zoro Strength: 246 Agility: 187 Vitality: 221 Haki: Armament (Lv 2), Observation (Lv 1) Status: Highly motivated. Haki stability increasing.

Name: Vinsmoke Sanji Strength: 195 Agility: 238 Vitality: 187 Haki: Armament (Lv 2), Observation (Lv 1) Status: Focused. Impact force compounding.

Name: Usopp Strength: 59 Agility: 93 Vitality: 68 Haki: Observation (Lv 2) Status: Spatial awareness expanding rapidly.

Name: Nami Strength: 42 Agility: 76 Vitality: 51 Haki: Observation (Lv 2) Status: Deeply attuned to micro-atmospheric shifts.

Luffy nodded slowly as he dismissed the screen. A seventy percent increase in such a short amount of time was phenomenal. The System pills had planted the seed, but their sheer willpower and relentless drive were watering it. They were no longer the fragile rookies from the East Blue; they were rapidly forging themselves into warriors capable of surviving the Grand Line.

But Luffy knew it still wasn't enough. Compared to the apocalyptic monsters roaming the New World, they were still vulnerable. They needed a reality check. They needed to see exactly where the ceiling of this world truly rested.

Just as Luffy reached for another piece of meat, the calm sea breeze suddenly stalled. The air grew strangely heavy, and a sudden, unnatural drop in atmospheric pressure sent a faint chill across the deck.

Up on the roof, Nami's eyes snapped open. She gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. She hadn't just felt a change in the weather; her Observation Haki had brushed against a massive, overwhelming presence rapidly approaching from behind. It felt like a hurricane was bearing down on them. "L-Luffy!"

At the exact same moment, the heavy metal door to the lower decks hissed open. Usopp sprinted out, his face completely devoid of color. He scrambled up the main mast, pulling his high-powered sniper goggles over his eyes and looking out toward the rear horizon.

"C-Captain!" Usopp shrieked, his voice cracking so violently it sounded like a dying bird. "Ship! Massive ship approaching from the stern! It's moving impossibly fast!"

Zoro dropped his iron weight, the massive block cracking the reinforced deck tiles. He grabbed his swords, his two dark eyes narrowing as he stared out at the horizon. With his enhanced stats, his vision was sharp enough to make out the silhouette. "Pirates?"

"N-No!" Usopp cried, his knees knocking against the wooden mast so hard they rattled. "It's got white sails! Giant seagull emblems! It's a Marine Battleship! B-But it's huge! Way bigger than the one we saw at Cocoyasi! And... and the figurehead is a giant dog with a bone in its mouth!"

Nami froze, all the blood draining from her face. She slowly turned to look at Luffy, remembering the exact conversation they had shared on the deck back in Orange Town, and the absolute panic she had felt. The massive ship, the dog figurehead... it was the unmistakable hallmark of a living legend.

"Luffy..." Nami whispered, her voice trembling as she clutched the railing. "Is that...?"

Luffy didn't look surprised. In fact, a massive, genuinely excited smile spread across his face. He stood up from his lawn chair, casually brushing the meat crumbs off his red vest.

"Yep," Luffy nodded cheerfully, adjusting his straw hat. "Looks like Grandpa finally caught up."

Sanji leaped down from the upper deck, his visible eye wide in disbelief. "Are you completely out of your mind?! That's Monkey D. Garp! The Hero of the Marines! The man who cornered the Pirate King! We need to activate the thrusters and fly out of here right now!"

"No," Luffy said, his voice dropping its playful tone. He walked to the stern of the ship, looking out at the rapidly approaching Marine dreadnought. "We aren't running. In fact, this is perfect timing."

As the gargantuan Marine battleship pulled within a few hundred yards of the Flying Raijin, a booming, thunderous voice echoed across the ocean, loud enough to shake the very water and rattle the timbers of the pirate ship.

"LUUUUUFFFFYYYYY!"

Standing at the very bow of the dog-head figurehead was Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp. He had his Marine coat thrown casually over his massive shoulders, blowing in the wind, and he was grinning like an absolute madman. In his right hand, he held a solid iron cannonball that was significantly larger than his own torso.

"YOU STUPID BRAT! IT'S TIME FOR YOUR PUNISHMENT!" Garp roared across the sea. "YOU SANK A BATTLESHIP AND PISSED OFF SENGOKU! GET OVER HERE AND TAKE YOUR BEATING!"

Garp pulled his arm back, his massive muscles bulging. Even from a distance, Zoro and Sanji could see the terrifying, pitch-black Armament Haki coating the old man's arm. The density of the spiritual energy was suffocating, leagues beyond anything they had manifested.

"Fist Meteorite!"

With a terrifying, explosive burst of raw physical strength, Garp hurled the massive iron cannonball. It broke the sound barrier instantly, rocketing through the air toward the Flying Raijin like a dark comet.

Usopp screamed, diving behind the mast and covering his head. Nami braced for the inevitable destruction of their beautiful ship, shutting her eyes tightly.

Zoro and Sanji, however, blurred into motion. Feeling the surge of their recent 70% growth, their confidence had spiked. They gritted their teeth and stepped forward, preparing to intercept the lethal projectile. Sanji's leg blackened with Haki, and Zoro drew his blades.

"Zoro! Sanji! Stand down!" Luffy commanded sharply, his voice carrying an undeniable weight that froze his two strongest fighters in their tracks.

He simply took a deep breath, stepped up onto the railing, raised his right hand, and coated his palm in a thick layer of pitch-black Armament Haki.

The supersonic cannonball slammed directly into Luffy's open palm.

KRA-KOOOM!

The sheer kinetic impact generated a shockwave that blew the sea spray hundreds of feet into the air. The Flying Raijin groaned under the immense pressure, the ship pushed backward several yards through the water from the sheer force of the blow.

But Luffy's feet remained firmly planted on the railing. He caught the multi-ton iron ball effortlessly, stopping its momentum entirely. With a casual flick of his wrist, Luffy tossed the massive cannonball over his shoulder. It splashed harmlessly into the ocean behind them, creating a massive geyser of water.

Zoro and Sanji stared at their captain's back, utterly speechless. Their Level 2 Haki felt like child's play compared to the absolute wall of spiritual pressure their captain had just summoned.

"Listen to me, you guys," Luffy said, not turning around, his eyes locked on the Marine battleship. "You've been training hard. You're getting stronger. But hitting iron weights and kicking steel pillars won't show you the true peak of this world. I want you all to stay right here. Keep your Observation Haki active. Watch this fight closely, and burn it into your memories."

Luffy cracked his knuckles, a fierce grin spreading across his face. "This is what the absolute top of the food chain looks like."

Before anyone could argue or beg him to reconsider, Luffy crouched low. The wooden railing beneath his sandals groaned in protest.

BANG!

Luffy launched himself into the air like a rocket, crossing the vast distance between the two ships in a single bound.

"BWAHAHAHAHA!" Garp laughed uproariously, leaping from the dog-head figurehead to meet his grandson high in mid-air. "Come here, you idiot brat! Let me give you a proper Fist of Love!"

"Bring it on, Grandpa!" Luffy yelled, his blood pumping with exhilaration.

High above the crashing waves, suspended between the two massive galleons, grandfather and grandson clashed.

Garp threw a devastating, Haki-coated right hook. Luffy met it with a Haki-coated punch of his own.

KRACK-A-DOOM!

The collision of their fists didn't create a normal sound; it sounded as if the sky itself was tearing in half. A massive, spherical shockwave of red and black lightning erupted from the point of impact. The ocean below them instantly parted, creating a massive, momentary crater in the water. The gale-force winds hit the Flying Raijin, nearly knocking Usopp out of the crow's nest and forcing Zoro and Sanji to dig their heels into the deck just to remain standing.

"What... what kind of monster is he?!" Sanji yelled over the roaring wind, his visible eye wide with sheer awe as he shielded his face from the gale. "They aren't even using weapons! It's just raw, physical force!"

"Look closer, idiot!" Zoro gritted his teeth, his two sharp eyes tracking the high-speed movements in the sky. He was forcing his newly leveled Observation Haki to its absolute limit just to see the flow of energy. "Their fists aren't even touching! The Haki is clashing in the air before the physical impact! They're projecting it!"

In the sky, Luffy and Garp became blurs of motion. They traded dozens of high-speed blows, the atmosphere crackling with black lightning. Bam! Bam! Bam! Every punch shook the clouds. Yet, despite the apocalyptic destruction they were causing to the surrounding air currents, both men were grinning from ear to ear. They weren't fighting to kill; they were sparring. It was a family reunion of absolute, unparalleled monsters.

"You've gotten a lot stronger since the last time I saw you, Luffy!" Garp roared, ducking under a sweeping rubber kick and aiming a devastating uppercut at Luffy's jaw. "But you're still a hundred years too early to call yourself a pirate!"

"Shishishishishi! I told you I was going to be the Pirate King!" Luffy laughed, easily deflecting the uppercut with his forearm and firing a rapid-fire barrage of punches in return. "Gum-Gum... Gatling!"

Garp met the barrage head-on, his fists a blur of black Haki, swatting the punches away like annoying flies. "Pirate King?! Nonsense! You're going to put on a Marine coat today even if I have to beat it onto you! Sengoku has been screaming in my ear for days!"

"Tell Sengoku he can kiss my ass! Shishishishi!" Luffy cheered, launching another heavy punch.

While the two titans clashed in the sky, a tall, incredibly lanky man sat lazily on the railing of the Marine battleship. He wore a pristine white suit, a green sleeping mask pushed up onto his curly hair, and an expression of profound, exhausted boredom. A chilling, freezing mist seemed to radiate from his very pores, keeping the air around him unnaturally cold.

Admiral Kuzan—Aokiji—rested his chin in his hand, watching the fight with a long, slow sigh.

"Arara..." Aokiji muttered, a small puff of freezing mist escaping his lips. "This is exactly what I was afraid of. The old man is just playing around with his grandkid. If they keep this up, they're going to capsize our own ship with the shockwaves."

Aokiji stood up, lazily stretching his long arms and scratching the back of his head. He looked at the massive shockwaves distorting the clouds above them. Fullbody's report hadn't been an exaggeration in the slightest. The kid from the East Blue was effortlessly matching the Hero of the Marines blow for blow without sustaining a single injury.

"Oi, Garp-san!" Aokiji yelled lazily, his deep, drawling voice somehow cutting through the deafening roar of the battle. "Can we wrap this up? Fleet Admiral Sengoku specifically ordered us to bring him in quickly. If you keep playing around, we're going to be out here all day."

High in the sky, Garp and Luffy clashed fists one more time, using the massive recoil to separate and land perfectly back on their respective ships.

Luffy landed gracefully on the railing of the Flying Raijin, breathing perfectly normally, without a single scratch on his body. Garp landed heavily on the deck of his dreadnought, chuckling warmly and cracking his stiff neck.

Garp turned to look at the tall, freezing Admiral, a wide, challenging smirk on his scarred face.

"Bwahahaha! What are you complaining about, Kuzan?!" Garp laughed loudly, pointing a thick thumb over his shoulder at his grinning grandson. "If you're in such a damn hurry, why don't you go over there and fight him yourself?!"

Aokiji stared at Garp, his lazy eyes narrowing slightly, and then shifted his gaze toward Luffy. He sensed the overwhelming, dense pool of Haki resting inside the teenager, and the absolutely unshakeable confidence radiating from the pirate crew watching him.

Aokiji sighed, a massive cloud of frost leaving his mouth as he shoved his hands deep into his pockets.

"Arara... what a massive pain," Aokiji muttered, stepping up onto the railing and realizing he was going to have to actually do some work today.
