Chapter 408 - Newcomers

Dom quickly looked at them new arrivals and asked the System to show him their stats as they began taking their seats. He first looked to the two Spartan's who had joined, Pausanias and Nicomedes. Thucydides had mentioned Nicomedes as he was a key part of the first war between Sparta and Athens, however the one that he had spoken the most about was Pausanias. The Spartan's under Dom had also been big fan's of Pausanias, however the Pausanias they had known was mainly one that was slightly younger and from battles before Plataea.

[Pausanias of the Agiads

Hero Grade - A+

Hero Strength - Loyal to Death and Hard General

Pausanias was a Spartan Prince from the Agiads line. He was the Spartan Regent after his Uncle Leonidas's death and his cousin being too young to rule. He was the leader of the Hellenic League's combined land forces during the Second Persian Invasion of Greece and won an impressive victory at the Battle of Plataea. Whilst he was a successful General, his return was not treated with excitement as his victory had put pressure on his cousin and soon to be King Pleistarchus. Pausanias was known to be a tough General and was disliked by many of his allies. Due to his success, he was under constant accusations of conspiring with the Persians or breaking other rules. After serving Sparta regardless of the accusations, he was eventually imprisoned and starved to death.]

[Nicomedes of the Agiads

Hero Grade - A

Hero Strength - Cunning and Opportunity Maker

Nicomedes is the Brother of Pausanias and a Spartan Prince from the Agiads line. Upon the death of his brother and then the death of his cousin Pleistarchus, Pausanias's son Pleistoanax was crowned as a Spartan King. Due to Pleistoanax young age, Nicomedes acted as Regent to his nephew.

During his time, the First Peloponnesian War began, between the Delian League under Athens and the Peloponnesian League under Sparta. Nicomedes won several key battles, including against the Phocians and the Athenians.]

Dom was both surprised and excited by their scores. Pausanias being an A Plus meant that he was already one of Dom's top Generals and was close to reaching S grade where the likes of Subutai sat. Dom understood his influence but was still surprised by the grade, however he was assured that he was an exceptional Infantry General, which was something that Dom was grateful for. He could imagine giving Pausanias command of his many Legionaries and them becoming something far greater.

Nicomedes was also a big success, the Spartan was not only a successful General that had defeated even Pericles later in life, one of the few that had, he was also an exceptional Regent. Nicomedes could command his forces or become a Military Governor, which was something else that Dom needed, especially with the growth of their new cities. With Locations such as Plataea and Megara joining, a strong Military Governor would be ideal, however both of those Towns were originally allied with Athens and he would need to move population around as he had when Jia arrived.

He then looked towards the Father and son duo of Xanthippus and Pericles, Thucydides had been adamant that if Dom could bring these two to Riverside, then they would make a huge impact. Dom felt that Thucydides definitely deserved a reward after this, as most of the information he had provided had been key to their success.

[Xanthippus of Athens

Hero Grade - A

Hero Strength - Greek Troop Expert and Elite Statesman

Xanthippus was a wealthy Athenian, the son of Ariphron and father of Pericles. He thought across the Greco-Persian Wars from Marathon at the beginning to Mycale at the end. His political career had many hurdles and he was known as a man of the people, rather than a man of the rich like some of his counterparts. He received an ostracism's, where he was exiled from Athens, before being recalled to lead them against the Persians.

He is most famous for leading the Greek Alliance Fleet in victory at Mycale, as well as the Siege of Sestos. His biggest achievement however is being the father if Pericles.]

[Pericles of Athens

Hero Grade - D (With growth up to S)

Hero Strength - Flexible and Golden Age

Pericles is the son of Xanthippus and Agariste, both from rich and influential Athenian families. He was well educated and spent his younger life surrounded by many Philosophers and Masters of the Arts. He became a key politician at a young age, raising ostracism against Cimon the de-facto ruler at the time.

He led Athens and it's allies in the First Peloponnesian War, The second Sacred War, The Samian War and the start of The Second Peloponnesian War. He also fought internally to create an Allied Greek Alliance with Athens as the centre. Whilst fighting the Second Peloponnesian War, Pericles fell Ill to the Plague of Athens that killed around twenty five percent of the population of Athens at the time. He died, alongside his second wife and two Athenian sons, leaving only his half Athenian son as his heir.]

Dom was excited at Xanthippus information, even though he knew it would be high after fighting alongside him. Xanthippus could be used similar to Nicomedes, taking over a City as it's Leader or as a Naval commander. Dom was happy that it had been confirmed that his wife had also arrived, as she was known to be an exceptional business woman and it wouldn't surprise him if she was a low grade Hero as well. Unfortunately she was still on the many ships that were unloading so he would have to meet the famous Agariste another day.

Pericles was currently a lower grade due to his age, but it was already relatively impressive, especially for a sixteen year old. Dom knew his potential was high and he expected that if he sent him to the correct Commanders for training, he would quickly climb up the ranks. Dom looked at him again, feeling a level of pressure at being with one of the supposed greatest Athenians to ever have lived. Dom wondered if any of Pericles friends were with his crew that had joined, as Pericles was surrounded by the Golden Generation of Athenians. He decided to ask after he finished looking at the other Heroes.

[Arimnestos of Plataea

Hero Grade - C

Hero Strength - Hoplite Commander

Arimnestos was the Plataean Commander throughout the First and Second Persian Invasions, having led his men alongside the Athenians in Battles from Marathon to Plataea. Plataea itself had a difficult history, but during the time of Arimnestos the people survived and thrived.

Arimnestos is said to have decided the location of the Battle of Plataea. It is said that he had a dream and the God Zeus told him to that he should fight there. He told the Greek Commander Aristides who in turn showed the location to Pausanias who agreed.]

Dom was quite impressed by the additional Hero he had gained and knew he would be a great Infantry General who could command several Cohorts of Legionaries in the future. Generals like Arimnestos would be the backbone of his forces in the future and he knew that Subutai would share a similar excitement for his arrival.

He then turned towards the former Prisoners, those that either Ling Tong or himself had captured during the Battles of Mycale and Plataea. He first looked towards the handsome Persian that had caught the most attention from the Generals at Plataea.

[Masistius of Persia

Hero Grade - B

Hero Strength - Cavalry Commander and Raid Expert

Masistius was the son of Siromitras. He was supposedly an extremely tall and handsome man, with exceptional talent with horses. He was extremely popular with his troops through his Charisma and Bravery. He was a relative of Mardonius the Persian Commander during the Second Invasion of Greece from the Persians.

Originally he commander the Infantry, before being promoted to Cavalry Commander. He raided the Megarian lines multiple times and was feared by the Greeks for his tactics. The Megarian's called in for additional support and the Athenian's dispatched one of their Generals Olympiodorus and his Archers to ambush Masistius. One Arrow hit him and he fell from his horse dead, the Athenians then paraded his body in front of the Persian forces, causing them to attack and for the battle of Plataea to officially begin.]

Dom couldn't believe his luck, knowing that Masistius could be another General alongside Zhao Yun who could command the Cavalry in the South where they had the most expectations of expansion. Masistius was also a great Commander of Men and Dom was excited to have him alongside them. He then turned towards Mardontes who he had captured himself.

[Mardontes of Persia

Hero Grade - C

Hero Strength - Trireme Admiral

Mardontes was a Persian Admiral during the Second Invasion of Greece by Persia. He fought at both Salamis and Mycale, commanding a section of the Persian fleet. When the majority of the Persian Commanders wanted to retreat, he had argued to continue fighting.

During the Battle of Mycale, he was commanding the defence of one of the walls, unlike some of his fellow Generals who were attempting to flee. He was killed by the Athenian attack, with the Admiral dying whilst some Generals fled.]

Dom knew he had made a good decision in bringing Mardontes onboard when he read his profile, he already had a good opinion of the Admiral after he had fought to have his forces spared if they could surrender at Sea. Dom had brought several Trireme with him because of Mardontes decision and he could see that he would be a great Defensive Admiral who would refuse to back down when others may flee.

He then turned to the other handsome General, who looked similar to Masistius. Ling Tong had praised the newcomer, but Dom had never heard of Megabyzus before and he hadn't been mentioned by Thucydides or recognised by any of the other Generals. He was relatively young and Dom expected that he was possibly an unknown.

[Megabyzus of Persia

Hero Grade - C (With Growth Up to A+)

Hero Strength - Cavalry Lieutenant and Future Governor

Megabyzus was the cousin of Masistius and fought alongside him at the prelude to the Battle of Plataea. Whilst most of Masistius's men were killed by the ambush of Olympiodorus, Megabyzus survived and fought later in the battle, surviving the retreat back to Persian land. He was ordered to sack the city of Delphi, but refused. He also eventually married one of the daughters of the Emperor Xerxes, before becoming a Satrap.

He later fought in further wars, including the Siege of Memphis, the Siege of Prosopitis and the Attack on Cyprus. He was part of the peace agreement during the Second Sacred War and eventually rebelled against Persia due to them killing prisoners who he had promised to spare.]

Dom's mouth dropped slightly at the response from the system, having not expected this from a complete unknown. Dom expected from what Ling Tong had said that he was a fair Commander, but the fact that he would refuse and eventually betray his own forces to protect innocent lives made Dom grateful to have him. He was also someone that could be trained by other Commanders, and potentially become a Mayor of a town or more in the future.

Dom then turned to the last of those that had arrived. Penthesiliea sat and ate some grapes, whilst looking around with a level of confusion in her eyes as to where she was and how she had got here. Dom decided he would have Subutai speak with her separately to understand where she had originally been and why she had been able to change sides. If Heroes could change sides, then it meant that the Loyalty stat that wasn't currently measurable was actually even more important than he thought.

[Penthesilea the Amazon

Hero Grade - C

Hero Strength - Justice

Penthesilea was a legendary Amazon Queen, known for her sense of Justice, Bravery and Skill. She is said to have accidently killed her sister Hippolyta whilst hunting and was for ever looking to end her life in Battle afterwards.

She joined the Trojan war with Twelve of her best Amazon Warriors to fight alongside the Trojans against the invading Achaeans. She is said to have been a successful Warrior and had many victories. She eventually fought against the Greek Hero Achilles and died, however Achilles was said to have fallen in love with the Amazon Queen's beauty, having to mourn her before he could return to the battle.]
