Third Person POV.
The Wall.
...
...
That same morning, a raven landed on one of the small watch huts along the Wall, spaced a few meters apart so the patrol could observe from there.
As the raven's eyes fell upon the dragon standing still, merely watching the North without any other movement.
The patrol was still obviously uneasy about the dragon, but no one approached it, and for the dragon, that was enough.
However, the creature made a move for the first time, the dragon shifted its enormous head and looked directly at the raven, which seemed somewhat startled by it.
"I don't like being watched... Mortal. Whoever may be behind these eyes, I can feel you. Just as I also remember the same sensation when I was with the Dovahkiin in that great human city... you were there. Dovahkiin should be aware of your existence as well, so I will not treat you as an enemy. However, whatever you are doing, I can still grow irritated with you... so do not stare at me for too long... mortal."
The voice was full of disdain, which made Bran swallow hard through the eyes of that raven. He simply spread his wings and flew away, no longer wanting to stay there.
At the same time, Bran himself was in the godswood of Winterfell, kneeling before the heart tree. When he blinked, his eyes returned to normal. He sighed and seemed to try to calm himself a little, before getting up to leave.
Thoughts about the dragon came automatically to Bran's mind, the dragon had certainly been a widely discussed topic the night before. Up until the moment he went to sleep, Bran had seen the dragon landing on the Wall in the morning. After finally finding it, he initiated that connection, but the creature's fear made him cut the link immediately after pulling the raven away.
That did not seem to be a friendly dragon. So he thought it best not to irritate it, also feeling quite disturbed by the idea of a dragon that could speak and be arrogant toward all other living beings, after all, it called everyone mortals. Even so, he was certain that this dragon made even Daemon respect it, and that alone showed just how dangerous it was.
Bran left the godswood, with some men waiting for him to continue his duties as Lord of Winterfell. As he walked, he could not help but watch Rickon receiving his first swordsmanship lessons from some of the men. At the same time, Arya was there with Nymeria, while Summer was also nearby.
Since Bran had entered the godswood alone earlier, Arya had not let go of her wolf for anything, even yesterday she did not let her go, taking her even to her own room.
Daemon's wolves had gone to run in the forest that morning as well, as they did every day along with Ghost. Nymeria would have gone along too, but Arya refused to let her leave, even knowing that it was the wolves' natural behavior. The smaller wolves that Nymeria had brought with her had also settled in the forest, and only Nymeria, Summer, and Shaggydog remained in Winterfell.
"Come, Summer," Bran said, and the wolf that had been lying down moved away from Arya and her she-wolf, going to him.
They headed toward the Stark solar.
"Tell Her Majesty that there is something I need to speak with her about, she can come to the solar when she can or I will go to her," Bran said to one of the servants, watching him go to find Daenerys.
He entered the solar after crossing the castle and began reading some letters and writing on behalf of Daemon or House Stark. It did not take long before the guards opened the door, allowing Daenerys to enter with her staff.
"So, do you have any news about Daemon and about the dragon?" she asked.
"Yes, Your Majesty. The dragon is settled on the Wall, in a somewhat difficult way to explain... but it is there, like a perched bird and protecting the place, according to its own words."
Daenerys nodded. "And Daemon... will he come to the North?" She could not help but ask, maintaining a certain anxiety and expectation. She was still a woman in her late teens, pregnant and in love, waiting for her husband, even before being a queen.
"He sent a message to me. He said he will come to the North and intends to bring the black dragon, since keeping it in King's Landing can be problematic. He expects only you to take care of that," Bran said.
Daemon had been contacted by Bran early in the morning, seeking the very raven that Bran kept entering to maintain contact with his brother, with his father, and with Daemon himself.
"That is great," Daenerys said, eager, while Bran continued saying a few more things, nothing too important, before deciding to leave to relax.
She ended up going to the godswood, to pray.
"Dany..." A voice appeared as she walked there. When she looked up, she saw Lyanna. Her voice seemed to falter.
"My time is over... Can you call everyone? I would like to say goodbye," Lyanna said, stopping Daenerys as she was going to the godswood.
Daenerys paused for a moment, absorbing those words, before her eyes widened in a trace of panic, then she turned to speak to Barristan Selmy. "Tell them to quickly call all the Starks and allies. Lyanna deserves for everyone to be here."
She was certain that everyone would also want to say goodbye to her.
The words did not surprise Barristan Selmy, already accustomed to Lyanna's ghost after spending more than seven moons in Winterfell. Lyanna's existence was not difficult to notice, living walking beside Daenerys almost all the time, he would find the ghost talking to her... And given all the rumors about the spirit, frightening Lady Dustin at the time.
Thus, Daenerys entered the godswood alone. Lyanna was there, standing before the tree, her ghostly form more visible, looking with a certain reluctance.
"I am disappearing," she said, looking at her own hands, as Daenerys approached.
"It seems your time has ended," Daenerys replied, with a certain sadness.
"I was never meant to be forever, even so...", Lyanna murmured, in a sad tone. "Even having said my goodbye the last time... being twice. Still, I wish he were here one last time."
"Bran just said he will come in the afternoon! Isn't there any way to hold on a little longer?" Daenerys asked anxiously.
That only increased the woman's sadness. "No... I won't last more than ten minutes," she said.
"I'm sorry," Daenerys murmured.
"You don't need to feel anything," Lyanna replied gently. "I stayed longer than I ever imagined I would. We knew it would end like this. I am not something natural to this world. It was thanks to that goddess that I managed, at least, to speak with my son and know everything he went through, to live with my relatives, even as a ghost for the last 7 moons... I was even able to see my brothers, even if one of them mistreated my son when he was a child the way he did to take revenge on me. Even so, he is still my brother, after everything..." She murmured, with anger and sadness.
"I also saw Daemon's achievements. Some may have even been cruel, as they say... but that is the path he chose. He is what he is today because the world shaped him. There is no reason to blame him and this is the world of the living..."
"He can be cruel sometimes, Lya, but even so he is fighting for us! He is fighting for a future where our family can return to its place where it should never have left, where our enemies no longer exist," Daenerys said in a firm tone, supporting her husband in every way.
Lyanna nodded. "Yes, you are right. This is the world Daemon is building for you. It is not for me to judge his actions."
She said that, although she had her reservations. Daemon massacred the Martell family, and remembering that still saddened her for Elia, but there was nothing to be done. Perhaps she could give some advice to Daemon, try to be a mother... but she was only a ghost about to disappear.
The godswood gate opened, and Bran entered. Arya came along with the wolves, Rickon ran behind, and Ghost followed them right after, having just returned from a run in the forest with the pack. All of them looked at Lyanna with the feeling that she could disappear at any moment.
"Aunt... are you already leaving?", Arya asked, downcast.
Lyanna simply smiled. "I will have to go, my nephews... my time is over."
All three showed sad expressions.
"Why are you leaving too?", Rickon began to cry.
Lyanna inclined her body as she floated toward him, touching his head, even though there was no real contact.
"I'm sorry, boy. I wish I could have been a better aunt to you... one who was alive. But, unfortunately, we are where we are. I do not belong to the world of the living... This is not right. But I want to say that I am very proud to see all of you. Ned managed to bring into the world such wonderful children..." Her words touched everyone.
"It is a shame I cannot continue watching over you. It was a blessing that I could be here all these moons... to have been able to know you, even if only for a short time. Even so, they were entire days of me enjoying Arya's antics, reminding me of myself when I was younger, causing trouble together with my brother Benjen."
She smiled with nostalgia. "I always tried to be brave... and I would push him into doing something that annoyed our father and got us punished. Sometimes, he would even take the blame for me. I was never a good example..." She sighed.
"Tell him that I would like to ask for forgiveness for all of that. I should have been a better older sister... After all, I was always a somewhat spoiled wolf..." she said quietly, while Bran also began to cry.
Arya and Daenerys, as well as the others, had tears in their eyes.
Even the wolves seemed to react with sorrowful sounds.
"We will tell him," Bran said, seeming hurt.
"Please, do that," she murmured.
"And just like Arya, I loved seeing Rickon's races with that Baratheon friend of yours, keep being a good friend to her, understood? And tell Daemon to heal her, otherwise I will return myself to haunt my own son!" Lyanna added.
"I will..." Rickon said in tears.
"And you, Bran! You are such a hardworking boy! Daemon managed to heal you, yes. But it was thanks to your efforts that you even know how to handle a sword in the yard. Ned will be so happy to see you again." She looked at Bran.
"Yes..." Bran said shyly now.
"I wanted to thank you especially, Bran. I loved what you told me, I was able to hear everything about my son's journey through your eyes. And know that Daemon has plans for you. With the death of Edmure Tully, it is very likely that Riverrun will be inherited by you."
Lyanna already knew all the details about the actions and events involving Daemon, thanks to Bran. So she had a good sense of the situation surrounding her son.
"Are you sure about that?" Bran made a face.
That made Lyanna let out a light laugh. "Of course. I may not have grown up with my son, but I already know the patterns of his actions."
Lyanna knew that, deep down, he could have even saved Edmure Tully from dying poisoned when he appeared in the throne room, but he did not do that. Perhaps placing Bran as Lord of Riverrun and Lord Paramount of the Riverlands, even though he was still young, was more strategic for him. And she knew that her son must still hold some resentment toward Catelyn, and that was why he did not save her brother.
"You will also have a place by his side. He himself said that you would have a place on the council, correct?" she asked, as Bran nodded. "Knowing that you are quite special, Bran... use your powers to stabilize the realm. Help my son and also do not let him do reckless things. I wish for him to be a wonderful king."
Everyone fell silent.
A sound of crying came from the side, as Lyanna stared at the white wolf. There were tears in the animal's eyes, which made her smile softly.
"It's you, my son... you are there?", she asked, as the wolf nodded.
Lyanna moved closer. "If you heard my words from before, I say it again... be a wonderful king. Do not do reckless things, protect your wife, my grandchild, and the grandchildren who will come after your first child with Dany. I know you will come to the North today... it is a shame that we cannot meet one last time. But we had already said our goodbyes twice, haven't we? Once when you marched... and then we met again..." She spoke, remembering the moment when Daemon was forced to return to Winterfell due to the threat of the mercenaries from Essos against Dany.
"I want you to understand that, whatever happens to us, I am proud of you, son. I could not ask for a different son. I only regret not having been with you... for not having protected you from your uncle's anger and Lady Stark's. If I meet your father, I will speak about the incredible son we brought into the world... a legend that will last a thousand years, but still, my son." She said, as the wolf nodded.
Lyanna moved away a little, floating, before appearing in front of everyone. Her body was beginning to disappear.
Arya and the other children were crying, even Daenerys had tears in her eyes.
"You are still alive... so my advice is: live and protect one another. You are the new pack. Tell my brother that I will never forgive him for what he did to Daemon... but tell him that I still feel sorry for everything he had to go through when he fled with Rhaegar. And also... send a hug to Robb. May he be a wonderful Lord of Winterfell... better than his father."
As soon as her words were spoken, her body began to disappear. First her legs, as it went up to her torso, leaving only her head for last, while Lyanna showed a sad smile, disappearing completely from this world.
The godswood would have been silent at that moment if it were not for the sound of tears and sobs from everyone.
