Chapter 140: Pregnant

Mikoto slowly awoke from sleep, her senses returning one by one.

The first thing she noticed was a wonderful smell drifting in from outside the room. She tried to get up but found her waist aching from what her husband had done the night before. The soreness was not something she would complain about but it was enough to make her pause, her body still adjusting to the quiet morning.

For a brief moment, she remained still, her mind hazy from sleep and from what Raiken had said to her yesterday.

"...Food?"

She rubbed her eyes gently and blinked a few times, adjusting to the morning light filtering into the room.

The space beside her was empty.

Her hand instinctively reached out, brushing against the sheets that still held a faint trace of warmth. She let her fingers rest there for a moment, as if the warmth alone was enough to tell her something about the man who had been sleeping beside her.

Raiken was already gone, and she had a feeling she knew where he had gone.

She slowly sat up, her long hair falling over her shoulders. The lingering fatigue from the previous night made her movements slightly sluggish. Her cheeks flushed faintly as fragmented memories from the night before surfaced in her mind, and she quickly pushed them aside before they could linger any longer.

Mikoto quickly shook her head.

"Focus..."

Glancing down at herself, she paused for a moment before standing.

"I should clean up first..."

She made her way toward the bathroom, her steps light but slow. The cool water washed over her skin, refreshing her senses and washing away the last traces of sleepiness from her body. She stood there for a while longer than necessary, simply letting the quiet of the morning settle around her. By the time she finished, she felt fully awake and a little more composed.

After drying her hair and adjusting her clothes, Mikoto followed the scent that had woken her earlier.

It led her straight to the kitchen, and that was where she found Raiken standing by the table.

He was completely focused, carefully arranging the dishes he had just prepared. His movements were calm and unhurried, and there was a quiet happiness about him, as though cooking for her was not a task but something he genuinely wanted to do, something he took great pride in. The sight of him like this, so at ease and so focused on her, made something stir softly inside her chest.

Steam rose gently from the plates, carrying a delicious aroma that filled the entire room.

Mikoto leaned against the doorway, watching him silently for a moment without saying a word. Everything felt very still and very warm in that brief stretch of time.

"...You woke up early," she said softly.

Raiken turned his head, a faint smile appearing when he saw her.

"For you," he replied simply.

Mikoto blinked, and her expression softened.

For a moment, the warmth in her chest felt stronger than anything else in the room. Then suddenly she felt his hands settle firmly on her shoulders, and she realized he had crossed the room without her noticing.

"Huh?" She was startled by the sudden gesture, her cheeks flushing from the warmth radiating through his palms.

"For my beautiful wife, allow me," said Raiken, gently guiding her to her seat as if she were something precious that needed to be handled with care.

Within seconds, everything was arranged neatly in front of her. Raiken sat across from her, watching her with quiet anticipation. Mikoto rubbed her eyes, half wondering if she was still dreaming. The table looked like something out of a story, filled with food she had never seen before, presented beautifully and smelling even better.

"Try it. This is karaage, I made it myself," said Raiken with a smile.

Although the Naruto world follows the culture of Japan, many popular foods such as sushi and karaage did not yet exist in this world. Perhaps it was because the era was still steeped in constant war, leaving little room for such things to develop. Raiken, determined to impress his wife, had gone through the trouble of purchasing a recipe book and the necessary ingredients from a livestreaming mall. Thanks to his instant mastery, he had absorbed the skill of a Michelin five star chef without breaking a sweat.

"Karaage?" asked Mikoto, tilting her head slightly.

Raiken used every ounce of his willpower to keep his composure. His wife was incredibly cute and the way she looked at him, genuinely curious and completely unguarded, made it very difficult to stay still. He reminded himself to breathe.

"Husband," Mikoto called softly, and the word pulled him straight out of his thoughts. The way she said it, so naturally, struck something deep in his chest.

He was glad he had not turned on his livestreaming. This moment was not meant for anyone else and it belonged only to the two of them.

"Sorry, yes, karaage. It is made from chicken and flour. The outside is crispy and the inside is juicy," Raiken explained warmly, introducing the dish to her with the enthusiasm of someone sharing something they were proud of.

Mikoto smiled warmly. She picked up her chopsticks, selected a piece of karaage, and took a bite. The moment her teeth broke through the crust, flavor filled her mouth instantly. It was rich and savory and unlike anything she had ever tasted before.

"Hmm..." She could not find the words. It was simply that good.

Raiken watched her with a fond gaze. Only when she had finished swallowing did Mikoto seem to come back to herself, blinking as if she had momentarily left the room entirely.

"I am sorry, husband," she said quietly. "I ate before you."

"Do not apologize for that," Raiken said gently, reaching over to dab the corner of her lips with a tissue. "I love watching you enjoy what I have made. You are so cute."

Mikoto smiled and let her eyes wander curiously over the other dishes sitting on the table, her gaze stopping on one that looked particularly strange and unfamiliar.

"What is this, husband?" she asked, pointing toward it.

"That is sushi," Raiken answered. He picked up a piece with his clean hands and offered it to her directly, holding it out with a patience that made her cheeks go warm.

Her cheeks flushed again, but she did not refuse. She leaned forward and took a bite.

She chewed slowly, and within seconds, her face changed.

She vomited.

Raiken reacted instantly, catching her and steadying her body with both hands. He rubbed her back gently, keeping her steady until the wave passed, his expression shifting from surprise into quiet concern.

He then channeled his chakra carefully into her stomach, his brow furrowing slightly as he focused, and that was when his body went completely still.

He could feel another presence inside her body, a small and faint trace of chakra but unmistakably alive.

"Are you... pregnant?" he said quietly.

The eyes of Mikoto went wide. They had only been intimate twice, yesterday and once before the war. She had not even considered the possibility and it had not crossed her mind even once. Yet the way Raiken had gone still, and the look on his face, told her that he was not guessing.

She felt a rush of joy rise in her chest and looked up at him. His expression mirrored hers completely, open and unguarded in a way she rarely saw from him.

"I do not know... are you sure, husband?" she whispered.

Raiken closed his eyes and channeled his chakra once more, carefully and slowly. A long moment passed in complete silence.

Then he pulled her into his arms.

"Thank you," he said quietly, his voice full of something she had never quite heard from him before. "My wife... I am going to be a father."
