Ren said nothing, his thoughts already occupied with what came next.
Now that Pii had been discovered, there was no going back. Sooner or later, people would learn his identity. It was only a matter of time.
There is no secret that remains a secret forever.
That principle had saved him countless times. Rather than trust in secrecy, Ren preferred to prepare for the moment his secrets came to light. Complacency was dangerous, and he had no intention of letting his guard down now.
"By the way," Elena said, nudging his arm. "You never told me you had such an adorable pet."
She scratched Pii beneath the chin. The little creature purred contentedly, practically melting under her attention.
"Pii, was it? What an amazing pet. Would you consider—"
"Pii isn't for sale," Ren interrupted.
Elena pouted. "I haven't even finished my sentence!"
"I know that glint in your eyes. And that smile is particularly concerning."
