"Don't you have anything to say to me besides 'mhm' and 'okay'?"
Ryder Sharp stared intently at her. Just as he was about to speak,
Sylvie Lockwood's gaze swept past his pant leg, landing on something sticking out of his pocket.
"That's…"
Ryder Sharp glanced down. A small part of the tie he'd stuffed in his pocket earlier was showing.
He pulled the tie from his pocket. He had just shoved it in there haphazardly, and now it was terribly wrinkled.
"Why aren't you wearing it?"
Ryder Sharp didn't say anything. At her words, he simply flipped up his shirt collar. He draped the tie around the back of his neck, letting it rest against the collar, then folded the collar down and lowered his head to tie it.
"Ryder, I never thought I'd hear you lie," Sylvie Lockwood said suddenly.
"And an outrageous one, at that!"
"You said it with such conviction, as if it were actually true."
Ryder Sharp froze for a moment in the middle of tying his tie.
