In the dimly lit KTV room, two men clutching microphones were locked in a singing battle.
Donovan Sheridan had just finished a rendition of "Sea and Sky" when Yancy Hale immediately followed with "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau." The two were relentless, seemingly determined to battle it out for a clear winner. Yancy Hale, with a voice like a broken gong, strained until his face was beet red, yet he still failed to hit the high note. Instead, his voice cracked.
The moment he walked over to the table, Jasper White handed him a glass of water. Yancy Hale accepted it with practiced ease. "I'm not in top form today."
"Don't overdo it with your voice, or you won't be able to talk tomorrow," Jasper White cautioned.
"I know what I'm doing."
"What could you possibly know?"
Just then, Donovan Sheridan switched the song. Yancy immediately put down his glass and dashed over. The new track was "Wolf's Temptation."
Donovan Sheridan: "Oh, my darling—"
Yancy Hale: "Aha."
