"How are you feeling?" Zander asked, studying the prince who leaned against the balcony railing, his posture deceptively relaxed, but his expression anything but.
"I'm fine…"
The answer drifted out like smoke, thin and unconvincing.
Zander moved to stand beside him, resting his arms on the railing as well. Below them, the city of Meria buzzed with life, lanterns glowing like scattered stars across the streets. Tomorrow, that same city would be swallowed by celebration.
A wedding, a very unfortunate one.
"You know," Zander began, tilting his head thoughtfully, "weddings are wildly overrated anyway, I personally am not a fan."
Adam didn't respond.
Encouraged by the silence, Zander pressed on. "If you think about it, it's just a man saying, 'I love you so much that I need the church and the government involved to make sure you don't leave me.'" He paused. "Which, if you ask me, sounds a bit unhinged."
"Zander… please."
