**General Varro's Log, Supplemental**

**Imperial Command Center – Western Albion**

**Imperial Forces recording**

**40 days after Rothgard's Fall**

The black tide thins.

Desperation wears a general's cloak.

The reaper waits in the gap.

General Varro stood at the edge of the command platform, the crude map table behind him forgotten. The air inside the tent was thick with smoke and the metallic scent of fear. Officers waited in tense silence, their faces drawn and hollow. Outside, the distant thunder of Guardian cannon fire rolled across the hills like the growl of an ancient, hungry god.

'Three strikes in a single day,' Varro thought, the memory still burning behind his eyes. 'Three impossible blows from the sky. Our fleets shattered. Our dragons gone. Hundreds of my men… erased in moments.' He had watched the reports come in — entire companies reduced to ash and screams. The Americans had changed war itself.

He stared down at the map. Black markers — his forces — were shrinking. Red markers — the enemy — were not. 'We cannot stay. We cannot retreat. So we must strike… even if it kills us all.' A communication crystal flared to life. One of the forward observers spoke, voice tight with a mixture of hope and dread. "General! The Albion line in the center… it's thinning! Their center is pulling back. We can see the gap widening. They're weakening!" The words hung in the air like a blade.

Varro's gaze sharpened. For a long moment, he said nothing. His mind raced through every possibility — every cunning trap the Americans had already sprung. It feels too perfect. Too convenient. 'A lure?' He closed his eyes for a single heartbeat. 'It doesn't matter.' When he opened them again, his decision was made.

Without a word, Varro stepped out of the command tent into the open air. The soldiers gathered beyond the barricades turned as their general emerged. Conversations died. Hundreds of black-armored men — weary, bloodied, and afraid — fell into an uneasy silence as Varro walked among them. He stopped in the center of the camp, climbed onto a supply crate, and looked out over his remaining legion. The wind tugged at his cloak. For a long moment, he simply regarded them — these men who had followed him across the sea and into hell.

Then he reached to his belt and drew forth his communication crystal. The deep violet shard pulsed with inner light as he raised it to his lips. With a single whispered command, the crystal flared brilliantly, linking to every crystal across the Imperial lines. His voice would carry to every man still standing. Varro drew a slow, heavy breath. When he spoke, his voice was low at first — rough with exhaustion and truth. "Brothers… hear me."

Across the trenches and shattered barricades, thousands of soldiers lifted their heads. Those still able to stand straightened. Some gripped their swords tighter. Others simply stared, eyes wide with a mixture of fear and desperate hope. "I will not lie to you," Varro continued, his voice growing stronger, carrying the weight of hard-won honesty. "The gap in the center may be a trap. The Americans are cunning. They have already struck us from the sky and from the shadows. It is very possible we are marching straight into the reaper's blade."

A ripple of unease moved through the ranks. Some men exchanged glances. A few shifted their weight, fear flickering across their faces. Varro let the silence stretch for a heartbeat before he spoke again, his voice rising with fierce, raw conviction. "But I ask you this — what choice remains? If we stay behind these walls, we starve like rats. If we retreat, we shame the Emperor and every brother who has already fallen. So I say to you… we go forward. Not because we are blind. But because we are Imperials!"

He raised the glowing crystal high, his voice ringing out across the battlefield like a war horn. "Tonight, we do not fight for victory alone! We fight for glory! We fight for the Emperor! We fight so that when the historians write of this day, they will say — the Imperium did not break! The Imperium did not kneel! The Imperium charged into death with swords raised and heads high!"

His voice dropped, low and fierce, carrying the pain of a man who knew many of these soldiers would not see another dawn. "Some of us will not see the sunrise. But those who fall will fall as warriors. And those who live will carry the story of this day for the rest of their lives. So I ask you one last time — will you stand with me? Will you march into the gap and show these Americans what it means to face the Imperium?"

For a single, suspended moment, there was only silence. Then the roar came.

It started low and rose like a wave — ragged, desperate, but burning with fierce pride. Horns began to sound across the lines, deep and mournful. Mages moved among the advancing ranks, hands already glowing as they raised shimmering protective wards above the columns. Varro lowered the crystal. For a heartbeat, his face softened with something almost like sorrow. We are marching into the reaper's blade, he thought. And still we go. Because we are Imperials. Because pride is all we have left. He drew his sword, turned toward the gap, and stepped into the tide.
