Chapter 172 - Chapter 137: Invisible Allies

**Kitsune Vulpine's Log, Supplemental**

**Discovery Conference Room recording**

**37 days after Rothgard's Fall**

Silence weighs heavier than thunder.

The conference room fell quiet as the last image on the large screen faded. The delegations sat motionless, each face reflecting a different shade of stunned realization. Lady Brynna Stonevein stared at the holographic table, her sharp mind turning over the captain's words like a newly forged blade. Lord Alister Greymoor remained perfectly still, his diplomatic mask hiding the storm behind his eyes. Durin Fireforge leaned forward, fingers drumming on the table as if trying to feel the invisible forces Nolan had described. Grim Stonefist sat like carved stone, his gruff features locked in deep thought.

Kitsune Vulpine's nine tails stilled. She murmured under her breath, almost to herself, "So that is why we cannot sense—" She straightened, her courtly composure returning as she addressed the captain directly. "Captain Nolan, does magic—does Mana—exist on your Earth?" Nolan met her gaze without hesitation, his voice steady and direct. "No. Magic is fiction on Earth, a story for children and dreamers. There is no Mana in our world."

Kitsune pondered his answer for a long moment, tails curling slowly. "All life generates Mana. When I reach out with my senses, I feel the living pulse of every creature around me. Yet your people… you are invisible. Not gaps in the weave, simply… absent like—" A.L.I. tilted her head, the faint cascade of light-blue code flickering across her green corneas as she gently completed the thought. "We absorb the background Mana until we reach equilibrium. At that point, we feel no different than an empty room to anyone sensing through magical means."

The room erupted into animated discussion. Durin's eyes lit up with sudden, fierce understanding. "By the deep forges—that is an advantage worth its weight in mithril! Infiltrators that no mage can sense, no ward can trip. We could walk straight into an Imperial camp, and they would never know we were there until the axes fell."

Grim slammed a fist on the table, his gruff voice rising with excitement. "Aye! Traps meant to catch the Mana of living things would ignore your people completely. We could turn their own sorcery against them." Lord Alister leaned forward, voice sharp with diplomatic caution. "This changes every calculation of warfare. If your crew truly cannot be sensed by magic, then reconnaissance, sabotage, even assassination becomes—"

Brynna cut in, her measured tone carrying the weight of long experience in council. "It is more than that. It means the Imperia's greatest weapon—their mages and their wards—would be blind to you. But it also means you are blind to our magic in return. We must understand the limits before we plan any joint action."

Kitsune listened to the rising voices, her expression thoughtful. The dwarves spoke over one another in their practical, engineering-focused way, already imagining new tactics and fortifications. The Albion delegates weighed the strategic and political implications with careful words. The conversation swirled around the gravity of what Nolan had revealed: an entire people who existed outside the fundamental laws of their world.

Nolan let the discussion run for a moment longer, then raised a hand. The room fell silent as the large screen behind him flickered to life once more. Satellite feeds showed the second Imperial wave—hundreds of black-sailed ships cutting across the eastern ocean, their decks crowded with troops and dragons.

The captain's voice was calm, but there was steel beneath it. "We have come to a decision. My new allies, I hope you will see this as our commitment to end a tyrannical regime. We will strike the fleet. We have the means to do so from orbit. I ask for any input from the delegations before we proceed." The room went deathly still. Every eye turned from the moving images of the approaching black fleet to Captain Nolan. The weight of his words hung in the air like the silence before a storm.
