Chapter 164 - Chapter 129: Second Wave and Rose-Gold Wonders

**Captain James Nolan's Log, Supplemental**

**Bridge of Discovery recording**

**35 days after Rothgard's Fall**

Waves of black sail rise again.

Rose-gold gifts hide sharper edges.

Captain James Nolan stood on the bridge of Discovery, the soft blue glow of the command consoles casting steady light across the watch. The evening shift had been quiet, almost peaceful, until a single sharp beep cut through the low hum of systems. "Captain," the sensors station crewman called out, voice steady but urgent. "Contact on long-range passive. Multiple large signatures crossing from the Atlantian islands toward the eastern coast of the western continent." Nolan moved to the central holotable with calm authority. "Put it on the table."

The holo display flickered to life, projecting a crisp tactical map of the eastern ocean. A second massive black fleet was clearly visible—hundreds of galleons and troop transports moving in tight formation, their sails dark against the simulated sea, arrowing straight for the eastern shores of the Western Continent where Albion lay exposed. The scale was staggering, far larger than the northern wave that had struck Blackthorn Harbor. Nolan's jaw tightened. "Second wave. They're not giving the Western Continent time to breathe." He keyed the ship-wide comm. "All senior officers to the bridge. We may have to adjust our support posture."

Meanwhile, in the VIP SUV gliding through the evening streets of Shire Base, Kitsune Vulpine lounged like a queen on a leisurely outing, her rose-gold hand comm resting lightly in her lap. She tapped the glowing surface with delicate precision, exploring its functions while the city lights painted soft reflections across the windows. Cedric sat opposite her, looking thoroughly depressed, shoulders slumped as he stared at the floor like a scolded puppy.

Kitsune's voice was warm and playful, almost teasing. "This device is remarkable, Cedric. It shows live feeds from the training grounds, market prices, and even the weather patterns over the Black Spine. How did you come by yours?" Cedric sighed heavily, the sound dramatic enough to fill the entire cabin. "I bought it in the city market. Five hundred credits. The merchant swore it was the latest model and practically indispensable."

Kitsune's ears twitched with mild amusement, but she kept her tone gentle and regal. "Five hundred? How unfortunate. Perhaps next time you will let diplomatic services handle such matters." A soft flashback played in her mind as she continued tapping the comm. Earlier that evening, after the spar, she had called Diplomatic Services from the suite. A cheerful officer had answered immediately. "Diplomatic Services, how may I assist the Grand Mage today?"

"I wish to visit the city and acquire one of those hand comm devices I saw during the spar," Kitsune had replied, her voice carrying the easy confidence of someone used to being accommodated. The officer's voice brightened. "Of course, Grand Mage. Diplomatic delegations receive them complimentary as a courtesy. Would you like rose-gold, obsidian black, or silver?" Kitsune had chosen rose-gold without hesitation, and the device had been delivered to the tower within the hour. Back in the present, the SUV continued its smooth ride. Cedric muttered under his breath, "Five hundred credits… for something they just hand out to diplomats. I feel like the merchant saw me coming from a mile away."

Kitsune smiled softly and glanced out the window as the vehicle passed a row of brightly lit restaurants and shops. The evening air carried the aroma of fresh bread and spiced meats from an open-air café. She had already enjoyed a quiet meal at one of the finer establishments earlier, savoring the honey-glazed pastries and a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. The city's energy fascinated her—merchants calling out their wares, children laughing in the plazas, and the steady flow of mixed-species citizens going about their lives without the rigid hierarchies she knew from Albion.

She tapped the comm again, pulling up a live map of the market district. "The city is thriving, Cedric. Look at how they have integrated so many species into one place. It reminds me of what Albion could become if we survive the Imperia." Cedric only groaned and slumped deeper into his seat, still mourning the credits he had spent so freely on trinkets and snacks that now felt far less impressive. Kitsune's golden-orange eyes sparkled with quiet amusement as she continued exploring the comm's features, the rose-gold device warm in her hand. The evening was young, and the city still held many secrets to uncover.
