Clyde snapped his head toward Vincent, his gaze sharp—too sharp, too restless.
For a moment, he said nothing.
His mouth opened, but whatever answer he meant to give never came out, as though the words had been trapped somewhere in his throat. He looked dangerously close to losing control.
"Forgive me," Vincent said at once, lowering his head. "I only thought… it would be safer if he didn't remain in the city any longer."
Before Clyde could respond, the car came to a halt.
The doors opened, and they headed straight for the VIP ward, where Madam Beckett and Soren had already been waiting.
"Clyde, you've come!"
The old woman reached him first, pulling him into a tight embrace. Her eyes shone brightly, tears gathering there, unable to hide her joy.
"The heavens truly are on our side," she said, her voice trembling. "Congratulations, Clyde… your other heir survives."
For a second, Clyde simply stared at her.
