Chapter 176 - The Refuge of the Storm

​The sharp click of the wooden latch closing with precision in the doorframe seemed to instantly extinguish the deafening echo of the storm raging violently outside the residence. The sound of the metal fitting together resonated in Aibek's ears like the definitive closing of a cell—an impenetrable barrier between the chaos unleashed below and the apparent safety of his private sanctuary. Inside the young Kazakh skater's room, the gloom immediately turned thick, warm, and overwhelmingly enveloping, fractured only by the intermittent, violet-to-bluish flashes of lightning that occasionally pierced the thin white linen curtains. The early morning wind blew with fierce force against the glass windows, making the traditional wooden structure creak and threatening to yield the frames, but inside, time seemed to have stopped in a suspended space where the outside world—its judgments, its heart-wrenching screams, and its painful truths—no longer had the slightest right to intervene.
