Chapter 18: Nirvana & The Oracion Seis
The Memory Seal
Uruk leaned heavily against Cumber, his breathing ragged but steadying as the remaining tension left his frame. The corrupted markings had faded from his skin, leaving behind faint, silver-tinged scars that glinted softly under the forest's filtered light. His eyes, now clear of the violet haze, scanned the clearing with the disoriented clarity of someone waking from a long fever.
"Easy," Cumber said quietly, holding his brother steady. "You've been through enough for one day."
Sala knelt beside them, the contained fragment pulsing angrily inside the Ki sphere in her hand, casting jagged shadows across her face. "Uruk," she asked softly. "How much do you remember?"
Uruk's brow furrowed in concentration. "I remember... pieces. Fighting alongside you in the northern peaks. Then..." He winced, pressing a hand against his temple. "Nothing clear. Just noise until waking up here."
"The Oración Seis captured you," Sala explained, her voice dropping into a hard, measured register. "They used this fragment to overwrite your mind and turn your strength against us."
"How?" Cumber pressed, his jaw tightening. "How did they catch you off guard? You're one of the sharpest fighters in the guild."
Uruk's face contorted as he tried to force his way through the fog. Sweat beaded across his forehead, his breathing turning shallow. "I... I can't..." He growled softly in frustration. "It's right there, but every time I try to focus on the capture, the memory slips away like water."
Wendy, who had been quietly recovering nearby, stepped forward. Professional focus replaced her exhaustion as she gestured toward Uruk. "May I?"
At Sala's nod, Wendy placed a small hand against Uruk's forehead. A soft, pale-blue light bloomed from her palm—a delicate, diagnostic pulse far gentler than the purification magic she had cast earlier.
"There is a blockage," Wendy diagnosed after a long moment, her brows knitting together. "It isn't physical damage—it's a magical memory seal. Complex, multi-layered work. Removing it safely will require time and preparation."
"Brain's doing?" Sala asked, her eyes shifting briefly toward the far end of the clearing where Jura's earth magic echoed against the dark leader's spells.
"Almost certainly," Wendy replied. "The signature matches the structure of the fragment, but it's far more precise. They intentionally blocked how they captured you. Which means..."
"Which means whatever happened during your capture matters," Cumber finished. "It's information they couldn't afford to let us have."
The Resonance Pattern
Carla landed lightly beside them, carrying a small, lachrima-infused canister designed to suppress dark artifacts. "Lyon had this in his field pack," she noted, setting it down. "It will isolate the fragment's residual signature."
As Sala transferred the sealed crystal into the canister, Uruk suddenly stiffened, his eyes widening.
"Wait," Uruk gasped, wincing against a sudden sharp pain behind his eyes. "I remember something. Not the capture itself, but something Brain said afterward, when he assumed I couldn't hear him." He took a steadying breath. "He talked about Saiyan Ki... how our energy interacts with the fragments differently than Earthland magic. He called it a resonance pattern—something that dramatically accelerates Nirvana's unsealing."
Wendy's eyes widened. "That matches the ancient Cait Shelter records. Nirvana was designed as an energy-inversion engine—it responds to specific high-density frequencies to flip darkness and light. If the Oración Seis manipulated that mechanism using Saiyan Ki..."
"Then capturing Uruk wasn't just about gaining another weapon," Sala realized, her tone grim. "They were using him as an accelerator to study how our bloodline interacts with the ancient mechanism."
"Which means," Cumber added, "they understand aspects of our Ki dynamics that we haven't even mapped out ourselves."
The ground shuddered violently beneath their feet. In the far distance, past the dense tree canopy, a towering pillar of brilliant, dual-colored light erupted into the sky, tearing through the cloud layer.
"They sealed my memory because I saw the core structure," Uruk said with sudden, sharp clarity. "Something about Nirvana's true mechanism and its connection to the fragments." His fists clenched. "I can feel the answer right behind the seal."
Wendy placed a gentle hand on his arm. "Don't force it. Forcing a memory seal can cause permanent cognitive trauma. If we defeat Brain, the magical feedback maintaining the seal will weaken enough for me to unravel it safely."
Across the clearing, Erza and Natsu approached. Erza's armor bore fresh impact scoring, but her stance remained absolute; Natsu, completely purged of Cobra's poison by Wendy's earlier intervention, cracked his knuckles with renewed vigor.
"What's the play?" Natsu demanded, flames licking around his wrists. "Because that giant beam of light isn't just for show."
"We split our forces," Sala decided without hesitation. "One unit stays to finish suppressing the remaining Oración Seis. The rest of us move on Nirvana immediately. We need to reach the core before the inversion completes."
"Brain belongs to us," Uruk said quietly, forcing himself to stand upright. When Cumber made to support him, Uruk held up a firm hand. "I need to be there when his hold breaks. I want to see his plan fail in real time."
Sala studied her brother for a silent beat before nodding. "Fine. But you stay beside Wendy. You aren't fully recovered."
The Horizon of Awakening
As the coalition reorganized for the advance, Cumber stepped up beside Wendy.
"Thank you," Cumber said simply, meeting her eyes. "For pulling my brother back."
Wendy offered a small, weary smile. "We aren't finished yet. The real challenge is waiting at that light source."
"Yeah," Cumber agreed, looking over at Uruk and Sala making final tactical adjustments. "But at least we're heading into it together."
The quaking intensified. Long, narrow fissures split the soil around the clearing, leaking thin wisps of black and white energy—the raw, unrefined output of Nirvana's inverted magic.
"It's pulling at everything around it," Natsu muttered, his nostrils flaring as he sniffed the charged air. "Like it's trying to drag the light right out of the trees."
"It reverses moral alignment," Wendy warned, stepping into formation beside Sala and Cumber. "If its light covers the continent, it will flip light guilds to darkness and dark guilds to light. But with the fragments corrupting its core, the inversion might simply shatter the magical threshold entirely."
"Then we don't give it the chance," Cumber said cleanly.
Sala secured the lachrima container to her belt, her aura settling into a calm, dense baseline. "Whatever Brain calculated, he didn't account for us working in unison. Let's move."
Side by side, the group vaulted through the canopy, charging directly toward the column of light that split the heavens above Worth Woodsea.
The Clearing of Fallen Light
The march toward the dual-colored pillar splitting the heavens was tense and silent. Every mile brought them closer to the raw, oscillating pressure of Nirvana's unsealing. Natsu led the advance through the thick canopy, his sharp senses tracking the rendezvous point where the coalition was supposed to consolidate their forces.
"The clearing is right past this ridge," Natsu said, his jaw set. "Erza said they'd clear a path and set up a forward line—"
He froze as they crested the rise. The words died in his throat.
The clearing before them was not a staging area; it was a silent graveyard of the Allied Forces.
The scene turned their blood cold. Their allies—the elite mages assembled from across Fiore—lay broken across the churned earth. Gray and Lyon were sprawled side by side amid shattered, useless ice. Erza leaned against a splintered oak, her face pale, dark purple veins of Cobra's poison crawling aggressively up her neck toward her face. Jura lay unmoving in a crater of shattered stone. Lucy was curled on her side, her celestial keys scattered in the mud, her breathing shallow and ragged. In the background, the wreckage of the flying ship Christina burned, sending a thick column of black smoke into the sky.
Standing amidst the wreckage, virtually unscathed, were the Oración Seis.
Hoteye supported an unconscious Cobra; Racer stood with his arms crossed, a mocking smirk on his lips; Angel's celestial spirits hovered overhead like golden vultures; Midnight floated lazily on his carpet, seemingly asleep.
At the center stood Brain, his dark staff humming with malevolent power as his eyes locked onto their group—specifically onto Wendy.
"Ah," Brain's voice echoed across the quiet clearing. "The sky maiden arrives. How convenient of you to deliver her directly to our doorstep."
"What have you done to them?!" Natsu roared, flames igniting around his fists as he surged forward.
Sala's arm shot out, catching Natsu across the chest and halting his momentum. Her eyes swept the clearing with cold, analytical speed, taking in the trap before them. "Stand down," she warned softly. "It's an ambush."
The Sky Maiden's Cage
Cumber stepped directly in front of Wendy, his body shifting into a low, protective stance. "Stay behind us," he murmured without turning his head. "We've got you."
Brain's smile was thin and devoid of warmth. "Protect her? You vastly misunderstand the board." He struck the heel of his staff against the earth. "We did not destroy your allies out of malice. We did it to isolate her."
"What do you want with Wendy?" Uruk demanded, forcing his recovering body into a combat stance beside Sala.
"Her magic is the last of its kind," Brain replied calmly. "Her restoration capability is the single key required for the next phase of our design."
"I'm not helping you," Wendy stated, her voice trembling slightly, yet carrying an underlying iron resolve. "Whatever you're planning—"
"We are long past the planning stage, child," Brain interrupted.
Without warning, dark runes illuminated the soil beneath Wendy's feet. Sala reacted instantaneously, her speed blurring as she reached out to snatch the young Dragon Slayer out of the circle. But dark energy erupted from the earth like a solid wall, driving Sala back.
Uruk lunged toward Brain to disrupt the spell, but Racer materialized in his path, delivering a brutal knee to Uruk's ribs that sent the weakened Saiyan tumbling across the dirt.
"Wendy!" Cumber shouted, his Ki exploding into a blinding flare as he slammed his fists against the dark column. The impact rattled the clearing, but the magic barrier held, absorbing the force.
Natsu hurled himself into the air. "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
His flaming strike hit the column at full power—only for the barrier to reflect the force violently outward, blasting Natsu back through three trees before he crashed into the brush.
Inside the translucent dark pillar, Wendy struggled against the constricting energy, her hands pressed against the inner wall. Brain raised his staff, and the magical cage floated seamlessly across the clearing, settling beside him.
"Her magic will revive someone essential to our cause," Brain noted coolly, ignoring Wendy's futile attempts to break the seal.
"Let her go!" Cumber raged, his aura threatening to burst into the golden transformation.
Sala placed a firm, steadying hand on Cumber's shoulder. "Cumber, hold your ground. If you release that much Ki here, Nirvana will absorb it."
Cruel Calculation
Brain watched the exchange with calculated satisfaction. "A wise sister. Your energy is a catalyst, young Saiyan—the more you fight, the faster Nirvana wakes."
He motioned to the remaining members of the Oración Seis, stepping backward toward the shadow of the deep forest.
"We will take our leave now," Brain announced. "The sky maiden has an appointment with destiny."
"You aren't taking another step!" Natsu growled, dragging himself out of the splintered wood, blood trickling down his temple.
Brain paused, offering a cold, pitying glance toward the fallen Allied Forces. "I assure you, I am. Unless, of course, you choose to abandon your friends. Most of them are carrying Cobra's lethal neurotoxin. Without immediate purification, they will succumb within the hour."
The realization hit Cumber like a physical blow. It was an absolute dilemma: abandon their dying comrades to pursue Brain, or stay to save their lives and allow Wendy to be used for Nirvana's revival.
"You coward," Cumber hissed, his knuckles white.
"I am a strategist," Brain corrected smoothly. "And time is on my side."
He struck his staff once more. A dense shroud of dark magic enveloped the Oración Seis and the caged Sky Dragon Slayer. Before Cumber or Sala could close the distance, the dark energy collapsed in on itself, leaving the clearing completely empty.
Silence returned, broken only by the shallow breathing of their poisoned allies.
Sala immediately dropped beside Erza, examining the blackening veins along her arm. "The poison is moving fast," she said grimly. "We need to stabilize them now."
Natsu pounded his fist into the soil, tears of frustration mixing with the dirt on his face. "Darn it!"
Cumber stood over the spot where Wendy had been trapped, his jaw set with quiet, unwavering fury. "We find a way to stabilize Erza and the others," he said, turning to Sala and Natsu. "And then we tear Nirvana apart until we get Wendy back."
Neutralizing the Venom
The clearing had transformed into a quiet, desperate field hospital, the low groans of the wounded breaking the heavy silence. Cumber paced the perimeter, his Ki flickering with barely suppressed fury as his eyes remained locked on the distant pillar of Nirvana where Brain had taken Wendy.
Beside Erza, Uruk knelt on the churned earth. The dark, poisonous veins from Cobra's bite were creeping dangerously close to her heart. Natsu hovered nervously over his shoulder.
"Can you stop it?" Natsu asked, his voice subdued.
"Brain made an assumption," Uruk said calmly, pulling a sleek, metallic device with glowing blue circuitry from his belt. "He believed that without the Sky Dragon Slayer, we had no way to purge the toxin."
Sala approached, noting the modified device. "The techno-magic conduit from the Eastern Province?"
"I repaired the core," Uruk explained, placing the device over Erza's chest and pressing his palm to its casing. "It converts my Ki into a high-frequency pulse that disrupts organic toxins at a molecular level."
He closed his eyes, channeling his energy. The blue circuitry flared softly, pulsing in rhythm with his breath. Slowly, the horrific purple discoloration on Erza's arm began to recede, her labored breathing easing as healthy color returned to her face. Uruk wiped sweat from his brow, visibly drained. "It works, but each treatment consumes a massive portion of my Ki. I'll need brief rests between Erza, Lucy, Gray, and Lyon."
Intelligence from Above
"We don't have time to wait," Cumber said, his fists clenched tight. "Every minute Brain holds Wendy is another minute he's forcing her into this 'revival'!"
"Rushing in without a strategy will only get us trapped alongside her," Sala said gently, placing a steady hand on his shoulder. "While Uruk works, we gather intelligence."
Two shadows swept down through the canopy as Happy and Carla landed in the clearing.
"They've set up a perimeter at the base of Nirvana's pillar," Happy reported hurriedly. "There's a cavern guarded by heavy magical barriers."
"I glimpsed Wendy through a gap in the seal," Carla added, her voice tense. "She's unharmed, but confined deep in the inner chamber. Brain has her stationed beside a massive stone sarcophagus."
Sala's eyes narrowed. "A sarcophagus... he's using her Sky Dragon magic to break an ancient seal and resurrect someone powerful enough to control Nirvana's core."
The Rescue Infiltration
"Then we split up," Sala declared, her tactical mind locking the plan into place. "Uruk, you stay here. Perform the remaining treatments on Lucy, Gray, and Lyon, then defend our position."
Uruk nodded, already adjusting the device over Lucy. "Give me thirty minutes. Once I'm done, I'll move up as your rearguard."
"Natsu, you and Happy take the sky," Sala continued. "Hit the cavern entrance with everything you've got. Make enough noise to draw the Oración Seis out to the perimeter."
Natsu cracked his knuckles, flames erupting around his wrists. "Consider them distracted."
"While Natsu draws their focus, Cumber and I will follow Carla through the side fissures to reach the central chamber and pull Wendy out," Sala finished, her gaze shifting to her youngest brother.
Cumber stared toward the distant, pulsing pillar of black and white light, his Ki settling into a cold, unbreakable focus. "Brain took my brother once. Now he took Wendy. I'm taking her back—and he's going to answer for both."
With the plan set, the team prepared to launch their counteroffensive into the heart of Nirvana.
