Chapter 37 - Boiling Points

The Man:

Swimming through the water, faster than a fish, I dodge to the side as Spectre shoots his glowing hand out, and a sharp stone pillar bursts out from the ground. Pulling back my fist, I throw it forward, but my hand goes right through Spectre.

"Intangible," Spectre says, turning around to follow me. "You cannot hit me."

I pull back my fist again and throw it forward. Spectre screams as my fist meets his head, knocking him back. Stumbling back, Spectre snaps his head back up and looks at me.

"That is impossible! I was intangible!"

Seeing me lunging forward, throwing a right hook followed by a left hook, Spectre jumps back, just out of my range. Landing on his feet, Spectre charges forward. He throws his own right hook, but I duck down and grab Spectre's arm. Throwing him over me, Spectre flips through the water. Landing on his feet, I rush forward. Just as Spectre shoots out his glowing hand again, I grab it and pull him in. Moving fast, I then wrap my arms around Spectre's neck and knee him in the stomach repeatedly. Jumping back, I slam Spectre's head onto the ocean floor before landing on my back and rolling over.

Landing on my feet, I look at the ocean floor but don't see Spectre anywhere.

"Where did you go?"

I snap left and right, searching for Spectre, but I don't see him anywhere. I am alone, in a near-barren field. There is nothing but mountains made of stones and a few patches of dark green seaweed, swinging in the cold ocean. Jumping into the air, about to swim away, I sense a burst of powerful magic closing in on me. Green streams of pure energy slide along the ground. They come from everywhere, surrounding me. Gathering beneath me, the green streams form a circle before shooting up and trapping me.

Spectre:

With a wave of my hand, I capture the man in the sunglasses. Watching from the shadows, I quickly fly out. Holding out my hand, I look down and see a shrunken man in the palm of my hand.

"The man in the sunglasses," I start, my voice causing the water around us to freeze. "Your name is unknown, but your crimes are not. You are responsible for the death of Phatnom Stranger, and for it, I will crush you with my bare hand."

Pulling my fingers in, I close my hand and crush the tiny man in the sunglasses. Expecting to hear the sound of his bones being broken, I instead hear my own scream.

"Ahh!"

Feeling a sharp pain shooting throughout my hand, I try to fight it and crush the tiny man, but then, my hand starts growing. It gets bigger and bigger until my hand bursts, and the man in the sunglasses appears, not tiny but returned to his normal size. Looking down at my missing hand, I quickly regrow it, a white blob coming out of my wrist and taking shape. Looking up, I see the man in sunglasses swimming away.

"You are truly mysterious," I say, clenching both old and new hands, "And as powerful as I have heard."

As I go on, the water around us starts to boil. Bubbles shoot up to the surface, millions and millions of bubbles. The seaweeds around us die, the lifeless weeds now swinging in the water.

"But you cannot escape my wrath!"

Pulling in my arms and legs, I then shoot them out, unleashing a massive wave that pushes back all the ocean water. Like dropping a nuke, it should've been enough. It should've destroyed the surrounding area and the man in the sunglasses, but to my shock, the man is still hovering in the water.

Doing something with his arms and legs, some strange dance, I look around and see energy I unleashed flowing toward him. Spinning one of his hands in circles over and over again, I watch as my very own power gathers above him, forming into a thick, green circle. The circle turns faster and faster, spinning at an incredible speed. Despite being underwater, I hear a loud whizzing sound, the noise echoing like thunder.

"Aahhh!"

The man in the sunglasses yells, bubbles shooting out of his mouth, as he throws the green circle at me. I shoot out my hand and summon a shield. The green circle hits my shield and immediately breaks it. The raw power throws me back. Hitting the ocean floor, I skid across it, leaving behind a thick, bold line.

Moaning as I push myself up, I look around but don't see the man in the sunglasses anywhere.

"No," I cry, "No. Noooo!"

Oliver Queen:

Feeling another shake, like an earthquake, I place both my hands against the window and brace myself.

"What the heck is happening out there?"

I check the screen and see countless lights flashing red and alarms.

"Warning," the computerized voice says, "Warning! Semi-disturbtion detected. Recommended course of action. Seek shelter in secure locations before moving to the objection."

"Uhhh, negative," I answer. "No. Keep going to the orichalcum burial site."

"Understood."

The screen switches back to the map, showing that I'm less than 100 miles from it.

"Come on," I say, "Come on. Can't this sub go any faster?"

"Understood. Please hold on."

"What? Ahhhh!"

I scream as the Seahorse shoots forward, my head slamming into the chairs. Fighting to keep myself from choking on my tongue, I watch as the distance closes almost instantly.

"100 miles. 90 miles. 75 miles. 50 miles. Distance reached."

The Seahorse stops on a dime. I shoot forward, slamming into the controls.

"Ouch...."

I moan as I peel myself off the screen and controls.

"Seahorse's computer, or whatever. Next time. Please slow down, and then brake."

"Cannot determine if Oliver 'Green Arrow' Queen is being sarcastic or serious. Please clarify."

"I'm being serious."

Checking to make sure I'm not bleeding or have any bumps, I look out the window and around. I'm not sure what I'm expecting, but when I look out, all I see are underwater mountains, schools of fish, and a handful of starfish.

"Where's the orichalcum? I don't see it anywhere. Seahorse, are you sure this is the right place?"

"Affirmative," the Seahorse replies, "We have arrived at the inputted location."

"Oh no."

I look back at the screen. The green dot, me, is directly over the red dot, the orichalcum burial site.

"Wait," I think. "Burial site. Burial. The orichalcum is buried!"

I slap myself on the forehead.

"Uhhh, okay. Computer. Uhh, scan for any traces of orichalcum in the dirt."

"Understood."

The green line does another lap on the radar. After the lap, I see six more red dots, scattered beneath the green dot.

"Okay," I say, nodding. "Computer, dig up the orichalcum. Now!"

"Negative."

"Negative? Why not?"

"Scavenging requires manual controls."

The control panel changes again. This time, the whole panel splits open, and two joysticks come out. Hearing another sound, I look out the glass window and see two large, mechanical arms. Thin poles with large claws at the end come out of the sides of the mini-sub.

"Okay," I say, nodding again. "Okay. I can do this. I can do this."

Swallowing a hard lump in my throat, I grab the two joysticks and slowly begin moving the arms. Slowly but steadily, I move the claws into the dirt.

"Okay. So far, no issue. Just need to be careful---"

As I move the arms, the lights turn red again, and an alarm starts blaring. Something hits the side of the Seahorse, and I jump up, hitting my head against the glass.

"What was that!"

Hearing a banging, I turn and see The Man pounding his fist against the window. He mutters something, but I can't understand him.

"What!"

The Man says something again, but the glass must be soundproof. I still can't hear him.

"What?"

The Man rolls his head before swimming down and out of sight. Wondering where he went, part of the floor then opens, and a hand bursts out, like something out of a horror movie.

"Don't touch the control," The Man yells, pulling himself out of the water. Hearing The Man, I let go, raising my hands like I'm surrendering.

"You're okay!"

"Yes, I'm fine. Don't touch the controls!"

"I'm not, I'm not. Here. You drive!"
