I followed him to the computer room, where he opened the 3 large gates of the barricades.
Then we went to the garage. He opened one of its large gates, before we hopped on one of the trucks.
With just one twist of the key, the engines started.
He drove carefully through the gates then to the mutant's dead body.
We went to the armoury of the truck, from there he took a knife, I took a 65 mm assault rifle and 10 rounds. Most mutants don't appear to be active during this hour, but it was better to be ready, and I was acting as a bodyguard after all.
After we got out he went to the mutant and started slowly cutting its flesh into small pieces.
While still cutting he asked "So... how long you two been together?"
"I found her 4 days before meeting you two."
"Just four? And you are this close?"
I shrugged, "She reminded me... of someone important to me. I don't know about her."
"Someone important? Like a-" I cut him off, "Please don't."
After a moment of silence, he continued, "It could help talking about it a little. But if you don't want to... here's how I lost my family."
Before I could say anything, he just continued, "I don't remember my real parents myself, I was too little at the time. They had died soon after my birth. I was raised in the orphanage for 5 years, before Carl's family adopted me."
"You two are brothers?"
"I don't think we could be more obvious if we tried."
He shook his head before continuing, "They really did care for the both of us equally. Though not too long after I turned fourteen, our father contracted an illness, that couldn't be identified, he died soon after."
He sighed before continuing, "Even alone, our mother, still didn't let us feel the loss, taking care of us, was all she'd care about. She was able to support both of our studying, I was always more academic, and Carl was sportsy. He'd join a Hema club, and learn swordsmanship and forging there. I on the other hand, would study biomechanics."
He stopped cutting for a moment staying silent, but before I could ask something he continued, "She... our mother had high pressure... which she hid from us. Before we could complete our studies, she died from heart attack."
He paused again, before he restarted cutting the mutant, and continued his explanation, "After we were done with our studies, I eventually met Huang at Scothard, in the nation of wisdom, Zerokio. He never attaches his face to his publications, so I didn't know it was him. He'd quizzed me there for some reason, before asking me to be his assistant. He only told me his name after I agreed. Carl would mostly go to different swordsmanship competition... or was it hema? anyways he'd participate in competitions, earning rewards from them too."
"So you were his assistant?" I asked, slightly impressed.
"Yeah, he had only a few assistants with him. We'd mostly do field work, or handle the computers, he... couldn't use computers well."
"That's odd?"
"That wasn't the only thing odd about him. He also prohibited us from talking about working with him with anyone but our families."
"So... what happened after the... fallout?"
"At the time, the other assistants weren't in the lab... and they never came back either. I was able to contact Carl, and Huang allowed us to stay with him for safety."
He was silent for the next few moments, he was already almost done with cutting the mutant and separating its meat from its bones.
"and you know the rest. So, what about you then?"
He had already collected every part of that mutant. So I said, "let's get going, I'll tell my story... at the main building."
"Fair enough." he said and we entered the truck.
At the garage, before we could get out, he said, "I'll put the meat in the bio fuel chambers and set up the skeleton. You wanted to have Angel shower, right?"
I nodded as I got off the truck.
When I pulled the gate to the hall way open Angel was standing on the otherside.
I smiled and asked, "You were waiting?"
She shook her head, "Heard the truck."
"Let's go, I'll show you the shower then."
She extended her right hand. I smiled grabbed her hand. It was soft and tiny in mine. We went to the shower holding hands.
In front of the shower I asked, "Can you shower on your own?"
She stared at my face for a moment before replying, "I can..." She looked away before muttering, "I'm not that young."
I nodded letting her go in the shower as I waited outside.
"So... do you still miss your parents?" I asked while waiting.
After a bit of silence, she answered "No, not when you are around."
"Hmm... do you remember anyone else other than your parents before the accident?"
'There might be some relative of her still alive. The chances are low but, if I could find them she should be with them shouldn't she?' I thought.
Silence, she didn't gave any answer.
'I shouldn't had asked that' I thought and said "Sorry, I should not had asked that, I guess."
"It's not like that." she replied.
"Huh?"
"I remember having an older brother but, I can't remember his name, his face nor can I remember when and where I saw him the last time." she explained.
"An older brother? don't get worked up about it, you might had met him a long time ago. And that's why you couldn't remember him, maybe..." I replied thinking 'a brother? would he be alive, and why would she forget him?
She isn't that old to forget someone related to her, or did she only met him once? What ever might the case be, if he is alive he might be better at taking care of her. I should try finding him.'
after 2-3 minutes she was done showering.
"Did it felt good?" I asked.
"Yeah" she answered.
We went back to the main building.
"So... Everything is settled down then?" Carl asked.
"Yeah" I answered.
"Then let's have breakfast together." Carl said.
"Haven't Angle had breakfast already?" I asked a bit confused.
Angle was going to say something but before she could say anything Taylor and Carl said "She refused to eat without you, so we thought, might as well have dinner with you two."
I looked at Angle and then said "I see." and then looked at those two and said "What are we waiting for? Aren't you two starving?"
"We sure are." they said.
