Chapter 5 - The Big (Disruptive) Apple

Christian continued to walk down the crowded streets of the Growing Apple. Unlike most cities and villages, this seemed to be a more sturdier construct.

There were vendors and children still hawking their wares, however the buildings behind them seemed more resilient, some even being constructed with metals frames. Even if their society did collapse, the buildings looked as if they could stand the test of time.

Christian stopped near a window and sighed, understanding what had to be done. If he wanted to converse with these mortals to find Pheonix, he had to reveal himself. Yet, he would probably be seen as a mad man with the wolf skin armament.

He set his eyes on the beings nearby, wearing suits of earthy colors and shook his head.

"They are too bland for my tastes... except for you."

He muttered to himself as he looked back into the window. Behind the pane, was a much simpler getup. A crisp white dress shirt, a black vest and pants to match. The shoes shined oddly, yet seemed to add to the getup even more.

He sighed and watched his furs meld, changing both in color and shape. Within mere seconds, he stood in a exact copy of the garb.

"Hey! I'm walkin here!"

He heard someone yell as he got shoulder checked out of the way. He would bite his tongue, not only in anger, but in surprise.

Death incarnate was now among the mortals. He mission had begun.

It took only a few hours for Christian to understand the layout of the bustling city. He was still awestruck about the nearby horseless carriages that seemed to chug by with such ethereal grace.

However, even though he knew chivarly was the most recent dead term in exsistance here; he needed to learn more about this time.

He stopped nearby a hawking child, holding out a newspaper. With a mere flick of his wrist, he held out some change for the boy and got the yellowed sheets of tree pulp.

He began to learn the language as he focused on reading. It was a hefty tasks, given that it pulled from so many other ones he never got to use. Yet as the hour came to an end, he was able to understand most of it.

"That statue was suppose to be done 40 years ago, however a odd series of fires and explosions in the nearby boroughs halted the construction..."

Christian said as he read the newspaper aloud. He felt his hands shake slightly, this was her signature after all. Pheonix caused such explosions and fires. The people of those fires in Éire... even their souls were vaporized in the sudden massacre.

"So now it's time to find her.... Let's see about those districts.."

He grumbled as he stood up, looking to the nearby child.

"Hey kid, which way to Brooklyn?"
