Cherreads

Chapter 9 - The Compound

The ride was silent, minus the busy traffic that blared their horns in the normal mortal chaos. Pheonix's eyes seemed to walk among Christian. He didn't know if she was sizing him up, or dressing him down. Either way, this seemed to be the first time he felt uncomfortable.

"So, that weapon of yours." She began, twisting her body just slightly. "Is that all you really need to take someone down?"

He would shake his head, looking over to her. His eyes unfortunately landed on her glowing alabaster frame. He felt.... warm on his face.

"Eyes up here sweetie."

She said, putting her finger to his chin to bring his gaze to her eyes. He only realized then that she was toying with him.

"This is only the base form of my actual weapon."

He replied after taking a breath. He was mentally building up his defenses, for if he was acting like this now.... who knew what could happen.

"Oh, do tell. I had a feeling you were holding back on me."

She mused, a coy smile forming on her lips. He was playing right into her hands, at least that is what she thought.

"Immortals like us have a special Soul Weapon. They are the very entity of who we are and they are stronger than any weapon that can be forged or any manufactured."

He began, seeing her eyes light up at the words he's already spoken. He however kept stoic, knowing that with the slightest bit of emotions, he would become putty in her hands once more.

"My brothers have discovered theirs quite easily, yet mine is still in it's base. I have yet to see a reason to strive for it either."

Christian added, seeing a coy smile form upon her ruby lips once again.

"So I have one then? How can I show it?"

She asked, seeming all to overly excited. This however worried Christian.

Normally calling upon a Soul Weapon to it's actual form would cause a surge in energy. He thought that this was why he was able to figure out where she was. However if she hasn't discovered it, then it was just her sheer will of the heat conjured by her power.

His brow furrowed at this thought, but quickly answered her.

"It takes a special ideal to call upon it. Something that only you can feel. Normally it's what you believe is the reason why you continue to fight. However it isn't wise to call upon it in this contraption we ride in."

He merely stated, uneasy on how it glided on these streets. Yet it came to a stop and he looked out the window.

A massive fortress with a one story wall surrounding it was right in front of him. Unlike the small building in the Bronx, this one seemed to be a extravagant Manor. Many people roamed around them, all wearing the signature red and black despite the sweltering summer heat.

"This is my humble abode, The Pheonix Compound. We are one of the Big Five when it comes to Underground."

She said as their doors were opened. She gracefully stepped out and Christian followed, yet he felt the eyes of many upon him. He didn't care however.

"Come, we will talk more privately. Maybe I should fill you in about this time since you'll be staying by my side."

"What do you mean?"

Christian asked as he followed, his eyebrow raising a bit. To stay besides the one person he needed to reclaim their soul, it was unnatural.

"Well you killed four of my men and decapitated my Underboss. You're filling his spot, and then maybe you will see why I still want to live."

She said as the door was opened for her, the soldier seeming to shake.

That man she was with killed the Underboss? Without a gun? He could hardly believe it, yet if the Don was saying it....

Christian stopped and looked at the shaking male, letting his power show for the briefest of seconds. He was satisfied when the sound of water trickled onto the concrete below.

"Now, was that so necessary?"

Pheonix said as Christian walked in. She seemed to be pouting at the actions that transpired. All he could do though was just give a light smile.

"Well if it means I can see how cute you are when your like this..."

He let the sentence trail off, seeing a small bit of red appear on her face. She however tried to steel her nerve and spun on her heel.

"Do that again and I'll show you how strong I am."

She huffed, his face turning a bit redder as she walked to her office, feeling his presence so close to her. Pheonix didn't understand why she started blushing, but she kept trying to get back to the upper hand.

"Well I brought you back into this world, I can gladly take you out of it again."

Christian said as they entered the room, closing the door behind him.

"Doesn't mean I'll start calling you Daddy."

She snapped back, a teasing smile appear before she sat down. This time Christian was caught off guard.

"Anyways, let's start with the layout of what's happening in the Underground."

She said as he pointed to the leather chair in front of her desk.

"Shall we?"
